Cricket World Cup thread

India 142-1, Ganguly and Sehwag going strong. Possible 300+ score here, and needed aswel because the run rate may well come into it after their last game, if Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India all win 2 games each!

Christ India ripping apart Bermuda 200/1 off 30 overs:(, what a rampage but i guess they need to put up a huge score if they want to guarantee their place in the next round.

Sehwag is really letting rip...about time too, hes been your weakest batsman for quite some time but i would imagine him getting a high score especially against a tame Bermuda bowling attack. Should be an easy victory for the Indians if anything.

India 358-4 with 3 overs left.

They have bounced back well from their last game, but I'm still hoping Sri Lanka put them out next game :p

LOL this is quality batting from India, 6'ers all over the place. New world cup record for the highest score being set here. 400 looks on!

400 passed with a 6 from Tendulkar. Great batting from India :)

Edit: And new world record holders for highest total in a world cup!

Great total, now we need to get Bermda out cheaply and slowly. From a net run rate point of view it woudlve benn better to bat second, but this way the batsmen got some useful time in the middle and confidence.

Is doesn't really matter how slowly you beat them as far as NRR is concerned, in fact it's better if you beat them quickly. If they're bowled out before their 50 overs are up, NRR is still calculated using the full 50 for both sides, that is you would theoretically have bowled 50 as well as them facing 50 :)

Good stuff but tbh i didnt expect the Indians to have too much trouble racking up a high total...in fact i was expecting it. Like i said the score flatters them a bit too much seeing as Bermuda havent even got a decent attack. But well played by India though, have to say they really ripped into Bermuda.

A poor bowling performance though, from India that is.

Yeah it does seem that when India are looking to break a partnership, they haven't really got a star bowler to turn too. It could cost em against a more experienced side. Everything else about the team looks fine, the bowling is their only real weakness.

Great news imo. Pakistan are in a slump and they need someone new and powerfull to get them out of it. Inzamam Al Haq retiring after the game is a bad move but if he has no more passion then he can leave, after all no passion = no confidence = no game.

Personally i think him retiring from ODI's is for the best, hes far too old now and too slow. He's of no use in ODI's imho, if anything hes still useful as a test batsman where he can stand at the crease and just hit 4's, 6's and the odd single. But him relinquishing the captaincy was the right decision, ive said all along that hes far too laidback and doesnt show any fight or fire...take a look at Ponting and his style. The last game they played in WC..against the Dutch, Bracken started giving up too many runs for his liking...so off Ponting went and had a word with him...his next spell resulted in 2 wickets being taken. Now that to me is efficient and great captaining and Inzi would have done well to take on that sort of style but i guess Inzi is far too pig headed for his own good.

But seems like from what ive been reading and hearing, theres going to be a mass cull in Pak cricket. Even the selection committee has handed in their resignations...this can only be good for Pak cricket and i hope they get people that know more about cricket rather than politics/religion and therefore bring Pak cricket from the disarray its in now and make it one of the top teams in the world.

India won't win this world cup, and to be honest I don't think they'll make the super8's either. Their fielding isn't good enough. They leaked 156 runs against a weak side. Where as Sri Lanka had them all out for < 80. The consistancy isn't there at all. They miss a killer bowler like Srinath. But I'm glad that there is still some talent coming through in the likes of Patel and Pathan.

Good news from the Pakistani side. I hope they can start afresh because no doubt they have a great team there.

As a pakistan supporter the most frustrating thing is knowing that we have the talent there but can't do anything with it. They don't behave or train like professional sportsmen at all, the captain has difficulty moving so doesn't bother running, he was great in his day but his days are long gone now imo. Good news that the idiot from the PCB has resigned, hopefully more will follow.

We need another captain like Imran Khan who isn't afraid to bring in new youngsters, and someone who understands how the game works, unlike Inzamam whose tactics sometimes are very strange!

Do any of you guys think this world cup format ie. the group stage, then super 8, then semi's, then final is the best way to have it? The only reason I ask is because in the 1992 world cup, Pakistan only won 1 game from their first 5, yet they still went on to win the tournament. I think that the group stages as they are now should be so that each team plays each other twice, then after that it goes to quarter's, semi's, then the final. This way there is less chance of a team 'fluking' it into the quarters. What do you guys think?
