Cricket World Cup thread

No offence but I think you may be jumping to conclusions there!

On that basis why wasn't a player targeted?

I agree. A death will always be treated as suspicious until the cause of death is known. Just because of the circumstances this all happened in, it doesn't mean somebody else was involved.

It was far to much of a coincidence he dropped dead a day after Pakistan lost to Ireland.

I was thinking the same thing, suppose we will have to wait and see what comes out from this. But Pakistan get knocked out off the world cup and a day later he's dead, just seems far too bizarre imo. I suppose it's the timing more then anything. It's not like the pressure was too much for him, he would still have got paid, and had other jobs available to him so I doubt the shock/pressure could have triggered anything.

I don't know what to make of it. I fully expected the players to get some stick when they returned to Pakistan, and even if there was an attempt on one of the players lives it really wouldn't have suprised me tbh, that's how badly some supporters would have taken this world cup exit. But the coach dying one day after just came as a complete shock.

Not that it really matters anymore but Pak 121-2 :o

Indeed, was just reading the paper on my way home and they are now saying he was murdered due to him having some info on a betting ring that was going on with some Pak players involved:(. Shameful if its true and utterly disgusting tbh, if any pak players are found guilty then they should be rightfully banned for life.

183/4 so far...yet again our pathetic shambles of a team are doing a fine job of being amateurs. Inzi made a useful 37 but Yousef??..for god sake get him out of the ODi team...hes useless..utterly useless... At least Nazir is showing his worth...on his way to a century.

Spawn, I think Yousuf should take the responsibility of opening. For the past year or so we have tried every combination possible and nothings worked. Yousuf is a test match player, he likes to hang around and his run rate is normally very slow, I think he should open with the sole intention of just hanging around for as long as possible and seeing off the new ball. The main 3 we had Yousuf/Inzi/Younis should have stepped up to open the batting but I don't think they want to risk ruining their averages tbh, again thinking about themselves rather then the team. Nazir is more of an attacking player so I think he should also keep his place as opener, because we don't want 2 slow paced players at the crease which use to happen so often with Inzi/Yousuf. Now that Inzi is gone, hopefully Rana is gone too and Akhtar, maybe even Akmal and 1-2 others. We need to bring in 3-4 new players from the Pak U21 team (who remember won the U21 world cup recently).

I've no idea who we should have as captain though. It will probably go to Younis Khan.

Nazir 150 not out, go on lad :D

edit: Gutted, hes out for 160 when 200 was looking on.

nice knock from Inzie and was great to see him getting applauded as he walked off for the last time. Emotional stuff!

yup a much better send of that we gave for the 2 legends of the 2003 world cup.....aka Wasmin Akram And Waqar Younis..... worst send of i had ever seen, 500 wkts was ok but pfffft:mad:

Bangladesh getting hammered here by Sri Lanka leaving India probably needing to beat Sri Lanka to qualify as this is going to kill Bangladesh's run rate.

Far from a foregone conclusion though as Sri Lanka look a very useful team.

Yup i agree with u totally, Yousef should start as an opener..that way he can settle down the innings should they get into trouble but i dont know if he wants to open but i think he should.
Nazir had a superb knock 160:eek:, top innings by the lad and possibly the highest innings in the WC for him. But played some excellent shots...now only if Pak could play like that day in and day out...it would be nice but a nice fat total for them for a change...now thats the Pakistan team that i like to see.

I think Rana, akmal and akhtar are more or less out of the squad...well i hope so. Akhtar is good when he feels like playing, otherwise hes a hinderance and Rana??..well not much else i can say other than that hes been truly awful and shouldnt be playing at top flight..let alone bottom flight:p. If anything i think Asif and Gul should be now our main threats with Anjum and Sami following up behind them. Kaneria i dont think is of any use to us anymore, a bit like Rana tbh.

As for the captain??, well im going out on a limb and id say either make Shoaib Malik or Afridi...yes Afridi a captain...at least hes got some passion in him and might be the man to rouse us up. But seriously i think Malik should be made captain...he may be young but hes quite mature...maybe even consider Razzaq as captain. Dunno about Younis, i dont think hes cut out to be a captain tbh plus he acts like a kid at times...dont think he really has leadership qualities.

I just hope the PCB now sit down and think very hard about where Pak cricket is going to go. At the moment we are an utter shambles and thats all due to the political nature of the PCB. Like i said earlier, we need people who know about cricket in charge...people like Wasim Akram, Rameez Raja, Miandad and even Waqar Younis...people are asking for Imran Khan but sadly hes too busy with his political career to want to come back into cricket. Lets just hope that from now on, we pick the right players and yes its time we looked to the U19's or U21 players and promote them to the senior squad.

Nice send off for Inzi, got quite emotional he did out there. Pak cricket will definitely miss him although hes still avail for test cricket, which he will be useful in.

Nice consolatory win for Pakistan yesterday, shame they couldnt win like this when Bob Woolmer was alive but im sure he would have been proud of the boys.
Nice batting by Nazir to get an awesome 160, shame he couldnt get 200 that would have been something else. Also the bowling was spot on other than Kaneria but he did get 2 wickets. Afridi made a good comeback, not with the bat but his bowling was superb. And shockingly Yousef even got a wicket:eek: and he hasnt even bowled a ball and it was the first ball of his innings:p:D. His face said it all though, was hilarious to say the least lol.

Well i guess thats it for Pakistan, they are out and Ireland are in..which is a shock but the way Pak played..its a fair result. Sadly thats it for Inzi, one of the greatest batsmen to ever grace the game and definitely Paks best batsman for a very long time...dont know if we will ever see a batsman of his calibre ever again....well there is MoYo aka Yousef who can be pretty devastating but in this WC hes been out of sorts.

My bets for the teams to win the WC??...definitely the Aussie..cant discount their chances..SA look pretty awesome as well but their next game against the Aussies will be interesting. Id even put Sri Lanka up there as well, they blitzed the Bangladeshi's yesterday. Dont know about NZ though, yeh they beat England but i dont think they will go far.

*gets popcorn out*

The next 2 - 3 months for pakistan are going to be hell, why is that anything crazy like this, pakistan are always invlolved............

Big game for India today, a must win match. I just don't see them winning it with the way they are fielding, and the way Sri Lanka are playing. Hopefully the 3-1 series win over them a few months ago gives India a slight tactical edge but I just don't see it happening. I hope they do it though.

Well they just got Jayasuriya out so thats a good start for them, 37/1 so far Sri Lankans. Kinda hoping the Sri Lankans win this, i do like them and they seem an affable bunch if anything. The way they been playing, i wouldnt be surprised if they go all the way...
