**CRYORIG is new and so is R1 cooler!**

Looking at the specs and technical data their doesn't look to be any difference between the Ultimate and the Universal other then the colour of the shroud, is their any other differences ?

I'm thinking of getting one, on the Cryorig it lists the various retailers for different countries, the one they list for the UK looks to be based in Germany even though they have a .co.uk address.

You sure you looked hard enough, the Front fan is 13mm on the Non Ult so it clears Ram. ;)

Yeh i know one fan is thinner in thickness, you can see that from the images. I was more on about the performance specs from both and if their were any major difference in real time. Has anyone done a review on both where they compared the results ? Is one thinner fan on one going to make such a huge difference in performance compared to the other having the thicker fans front and back.

The front fans are different. XT140 is 13mm thick with 13 blades and XF140 is 25mm thick with 11 blades.

XF140 SPECIFICATION
Dimension L140 mm x W140 mm x H25.4 mm
Weight 156 g
Rated Speed 700 ~ 1300 RPM ±10 %
Noise Level 19 ~ 23 dBA
Air Flow 76 CFM

XT140 SPECIFICATION
Dimension L140 mm x W140 mm x H13 mm
Weight 89 g
Rated Speed 700 ~ 1300 RPM ±10 %
Noise Level 20 ~ 24 dBA
Air Flow 65 CFM

I've been told the fins may be different on the front too for better RAM clearance but cannot yet confirm that.

Nothing like a little rip-off.

On another note, I'm hearing rumors the R1 Universal has 2-3mm more off-set to the rear. Combined with 13mm thick fan this means approx 16mm better RAM clearance.

Read that a while ago, it will clear most Mobos ram modules more so the ones 4 slots to right of socket not sure if all with 2 per side of socket like X79's.

It was announced before the Ultimate which may hit taller modules

Originally both R1 coolers were using white housing. To date I don't know if any R1 Universals have been released. I have not seen any reviews, heard of anyone receiving a pre-release sample or anyone buying one yet.

RAM clearance on motherboards with tall RAM on both sides of CPU is problematic. I don't know of any twin tower coolers that will work.. but there are a few very good single towers that will work.

Seen about 3-4 reviews and some are linked to from this very thread.

Their site is up and down more than a Ho's knickers though.

I meant the Ult sorry, not interested in the lower model TBH.

Not sure if those fan housings can be removed so you could move the front fan to the rear on the Ult (which you can) then add a slimmer fan housing/bracket to hold a 13mm fan in front to clear Ram.

Fin housings can be removed.
As I understand it the fin housings are basically the same.
Yes, you can put a XT140 on front. Would need XT140 fan clips.

Sorry, no. Still trying to get my test system back together. Swapped the R1 Ultimate for TC14PE on my sig rig and can't say I'm seeing enough difference to record. Keep in mind my sig rig is not overclocked.

Got a DimasTech Easy V.3.0 from wife for birthday. Thing is huge.. 490x430x205mm (WxDxH) high to motherboard. Think I want something smaller.

Overclock that CPU already!!!! :p

I had a Cooler Master test bench one but I got rid of it as it was pointless benching on that.

Was just reading HardOCP review.

Was not impressed by their testing procedure.. not at all. They removed the fan clip / fin pack cover and raised the fan way above where it is supposed to set because they are using 52.5mm tall Vengeance RAM. I would be surprised if this did not compromised the cooling ability of R1 Ultimate by at least 1-3c, possibly more.

I have never overclocked.. :o well not in many years. I suppose I could use my UD5 for testing instead of UD3R with 920 on it. Don't know if 980 would run hotter or not.

Guess I should get the thumb out and find someone to be my OC Guru and do it. :D

The 980 is the cooler running chip and should have no problem reaching around 4.5GHz where a 920 will get to 4.0ghz on similar voltages. I find that testing coolers at stock speed shows minimal difference between them whereas with an overclocked CPU, you see their actual potential. Plus, it's the coolers' purpose to deal with overclocked CPUs!

Didn't realize the 980 was capable of that much. That's pushing a 50% increase. Almost as much increase as 920.

I agree. These super coolers are great at stock setting because they are super-quiet. They never have to really do any serious work. :D

Yep, at the time i got my k2 i was running an i7 920 @4.2ghz. Previous cooler was a supermega with twin viper fans. The difference at stock was essentially zero. However at 4.2 it was quite pronounced. 76c max with the mega, 67c max with the k2 and stock fans.

Quite interested in your findings as this is a very good looking cooler.
