Crytek CEO - No more PC exclusives

It wasn't the demo, and why does it matter if it was? You can judge a game by the demo, no problem.

You can, but it will never be an accurate judgement... you don't read PC Gamer reviews with the guy having just skimmed over a demo that may not even reflect the games final state, particulary after several months of patching.

But then it begs the question to why you posted at all, just to tell the world you didn't buy it and you think its crap? You didn't read the OP then, as he didn't say "hey guys did you buy crysis and did you think it was crap?"... and you gave no real response to the topic of discussion he raised.

so you pirated it? or you didn't play more than the demo and are therefore making a stupid comment?

He could also have played the game on a mates PC, what's your point? He thinks it was crap and I am inclined to agree.

There was nothing revolutionary about Crysis short of the engine itself, everything else was textbook FPS no imagination and fairly generic gameplay.

Exactly, Crytek promised a lot more than they could deliver and are ultimately paying the price for it. Yerli throwing his toys out of the pram obviously shows how a lot of developers misjudge their audience.

you can judge a 10+ hour sandbox game off a 30min demo? yeah ok, what exactly did you play then?

Haha sorry Crysis is far from a sandbox game.

Well it's a discussion of Crysis somewhat and the CEO of Crytek throwing toys out of the pram, I think it's fairly relevant to talk about their latest game.

Anyhoo, problem with Crysis; Don't introduce aliens halfway through the game, because it turns ****.

They made the same flaw with Far Cry, then again Crysis wasn't all that even before the aliens showed up.

The aliens being introduced is kind of the story, if you don't like the story fair enough, but the game was never meant to be just a remote war with North Koreans so you can't hold that against it. Plus it isn't really halfway through either, there isn't much of the game left after you enter the alien ship (despite what people say of that its a very short level if you don't get lost), so the game is mostly fighting North Koreans in the jungle, which ironically is what everyone whines about it not being enough of.

If you wanted to play a game with a story based on modern warfare, why did you buy / steal Crysis in the first place, it is a sci-fi game through and through, they didn't spring the aliens from nowhere you knew they were going to be in the game from when you first heard about it years before release.

I cant believe how stupid developers are like crytek. Thinking consoles dont get pirated and also lose just as much (yes just as much) as pc losses due to piracy. I mean come on we all know about chipped consoles etc its nothing new. Developers should stop there itching and deal with it. Internet is here, its a world wide database of course games movies music will spread like wildfire on it as u cant police it. Publishers will go out of business as soon as every home has the net and there for everyone will want it from the net only (shame but probably true).

Dunno what he's whining about, id say if anything consoles are starting to get as bad as pc's with pirates. Does he think if they make console games nobody will pirate them or something? Just about every big 360 release has been pirated well ahead of release, its not exactly hard to get a console modded, only "hard" part is finding a place to dload the files. Once that problems solved though its dload central.

I know several people with modded xboxs who have NEVER bought a damn game for them ffs.

Crytek CEO must be smoking something very strong!

EA reported it went platinum (1 million sales) which is an accurate figure as the execs who have to report these numbers on their accounts would get lengthy jail time if they lied so more than likely when they announced that 1 mil figure (jan 08) since then it has sold a few more copies.

So assume 1 million PC gamers bought then debugged his tech demo/far cry1.5 and he is bitching about it!!

Sure piracy is very bad and hurts the PC more than other platforms but equally Crysis could not expect console like sales due to it hardware requirements and most PC's would not be able to achieve anything like the screenshots on the games box.

Even the witcher & stalker outsold crysis yet they were also heavily pirated. The difference is that they were more playable games which the pirates felt compelled to buy.

Best thing for concerned pc devs to do is either take the bioshock online activation route, uncrackable starforce level5 protection or steam.

What he said!

It both amazes and annoys me how certain people often talk about playing pirated games on these forums, but are still here. If I was to regularily swear i'd be banned, but it seems to be fine for a couple of people to almost brag about their piracy. I don't care if someone goes on to buy the game, they should just buy them anyway if they're interested in them.

I mean, most games only cost £20/30, not exactly expensive are they.

well yeti or what ever his name is sayed people will be able to play crysis at e6600 with 8600gt on high ye right...

but anyway they probably wanted to earn gzilions and they did not i bought crysis never finished it playing it now again on high settings looks amazing but gets boring after u enter alien ship.

For blaming the pirates they should have blamed the people in there team who made so easy to make a pirate make a pirate copy .better copy right protection stuff and stop crying then

You all know my view and I posted all the proof from his interviews here which got me flamed by most and backed up by a good few who could also READ, (there was no Supercomputer claims).

I enjoyed the game at 1260x960 all Very High, and was not put of by the alien section but prefered the human aspect more. :)

The guy is a BAW BAG and talk Tosh then lies about it later.

One thing that bugged me was the most realism game ever with no blood or ragdolls :( (Germans to blame).

EDIT : Just got a german patch that enables lots of blood+ragdoll and more on patch 1.2 and 1.21, Horray \o/

console piracy is but a mere fraction of pc piracy and the piracy there doesn't affect the sales at all really, a big game like crysis would sell many millions on there whilst being pirated by the minority, where as on the pc its almost got to the point of the majority actually pirate it

crysis outsold both those 2 games, both have yet to sell over a million, last check they were around the 750k mark

Why should i pay that much on a game thats crap? All the magazines are payed to give good reviews and people who say its crap get fired.

Unbiased reviews + good production = money.

why should you pay so much? was a great game, only cost £20 a fraction of your graphics card no doubt

thats some pay off to the magazines then, going by thats its on a 91% average on gamerankings, even edge gave it a 9 out of 10

I dont mind paying for computer games, just not when there given 90% or 9/10 from biased reviewers.

so going by that logic you avoid all the games that receive 90%+ like bioshock, orange box, call of duty 4 etc and buy games like blacksite area 51 and turning point:fall of man, thats right yeah?

The console market is much more lucrative than the PC market. That's why there'll be no more PC exclusives. I think that's what they're really trying to say ;-)
