CS:GO Discussion

It's all start to click together for me. I'm really enjoying it and do get why people like it.

Is there a list of steam users that play this? I'd like to start teaming up etc

Update released :D

Today’s update includes two maps (de_vertigo and ar_monastery), a wide range of fixes, and an overhaul of the matchmaking for the Classic Competitive mode.

Matchmaking FAQ:

To get you started with the first version of the revamped Classic Competitive mode, here are answers to some common questions about the system:

What’s different in Classic Competitive?

Up until today all of the game modes have used a ‘Join in Progress’ matchmaking system. As of today, Classic Competitive will use a ‘Queue’ matchmaking system. When you search for a Competitive game, either from the Find a Game menu or the Play with Friends menu, you will be put in a queue. When we identify 10 compatible players then your match will start. If you get disconnected then you should use the Reconnect button on the main menu. We’ll be monitoring and tuning the system over the time.

How do I begin a Competitive match?

There are two easy ways to get into a match. If you’re playing on your own, just use the standard “Find A Game” option and choose the Classic Competitive mode. You’ll automatically be added to the queue and will join a match as soon as one is ready. If you’re looking to join a match with a larger group, choose the “Play With Friends” option and invite up to four additional teammates. You’ll join a queue together and will enter a match on the same team.

What happens if I disconnect?

If you disconnect from your match then you can rejoin the in-progress match from the CS:GO main menu. You also have the option to abandon your match, although this is considered poor sportsmanship and is recorded.

What happens if I abandon my match?

If you abandon a match then Classic Competitive will be unavailable for 30 minutes.

Is it possible to join a match in progress?

Only if it’s a match that you previously disconnected from. Otherwise the only way to enter a Classic Competitive match is from the start, using one of the methods mentioned above.

Can I invite my friends into a Classic Competitive match?

You can invite friends into your pre-game lobby using the Play With Friends menu item but you cannot invite friends into a match after it has started.

In Classic Competitive, can I pick which side I play on? (T or CT)

No. When a match begins, you will be assigned to a team (if you join with your friends, you will all be on the same team). After 15 rounds the teams switch sides, so you will always have the opportunity to play both sides of a map.

How does the match end?

Matches are best-of-30, and end either when one team wins 16 rounds, or all 30 rounds are played.

Can we vote in Classic Competitive?

The only vote option available in Classic Competitive is ‘Kick player.’ At the end of the match you’ll be presented with a vote to ‘rematch,’ which requires 10 votes to pass. If any one player abandons the match, the option to rematch won’t be presented.

How does my Elo score factor into the new matchmaking?

We’ll be recalibrating Elo in the coming weeks and are temporarily removing it from the UI. As we recalibrate, we’ll be matching players of all skills to collect better data and test various Elo models.

I hate the new matchmaking system. Trying to play Classic Competitive. Took me 3 minutes to find a game and it always connect me to the new map. Searching over 5 mins for a office game (gave up) and searched for a defuse mission and it always starts a new game. When people RQ they are replaced with bots only since now no humans can join an existing game. And if the whole team is replaced by bots you HAVE to finish the game off (so boring) until 15 rounds (out of 30) then the game allows it to finish. Otherwise if you want to join a NEW game you can't. You have to "abandon" it (goes on your record apparently) and you are banned from joining a new one for 30 mins.

Why not find a public server that plays the classic competitive rules? Rather than using the matchmaking system.

Yep, it's pretty terrible. I think Valve has sort of realised this and are working on it. Plenty of good suggestions in the steam forums.

I had to quit one game because the server was so laggy. The game before was 4v1 and the poor guy on his own stood no chance :p

I'm now banned for over 1,000 hours apparently. Played one game and it was me + bots.

The timer actually resets to 1,192 after every normal game lol.

Great update....

Yeh it's a bug. Mine did that. It disappeared when restarting the game though.

Went on and played for the first time since near launch and it seems much better. First game I played got 22-3.

I think you came on the same server as me last night for a little while, MGS server. Noticed the OcUK tag when you joined.

Keep getting this error....

steam_error.jpg

Started happening yesterday for no discernible reason.

Tried the 'Verify integrity of local cache' thing, says it's fine.

Un-installed and re-installed the whole game, same error.

Looked up the specific error code and found this...
Incomplete Installation (55)

This issue can also occur on computers with Avast installed. You will need to configure Avast to ignore Steam itself and all Steam game files. Some users have had to uninstall Avast to resolve the issue.
This may also indicate a Steam Service failure. Please try enabling the Steam Service:
Exit Steam.
Click Start > Run (Windows Key + R)
Type the following command:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\Steamservice.exe /Install

(If you have installed Steam to another path, please replace C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam with the correct path.)

This command requires administrator privileges and may take a few minutes.
Launch Steam and test the issue again.
McAfee Security Scan is also known to create this error for Left 4 Dead 2.

I don't have Avast installed and I've done the 'Steamservice' fix it suggests. No joy.

Any ideas??

This worked for me, I found someone else had a reply from Steam regarding this issue:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support. We appreciate your patience.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

Once finished, log into your account and complete this process for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive then re-test the issue:

Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

You may also need to manually run a secondary installer required by CS:GO.

Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\directx_installer

Right click dxsetup.exe and choose "Run as administrator". If prompted, please login to an administrator account. If no administrator is present, simply double click dxsetup.exe to run it.

Follow the prompts to complete the installation process. Once completed, please re-test your issue.

If you continue to experience issues with CS:GO, please follow the instructions linked below to run an msinfo32 report and attach it to this ticket so we may further diagnose the issue:

Please also check your for any recent minidump (.mdmp) files. If any minidumps exist, attach up to 2 of the most recent to your next reply.

Your Steam minidumps (.mdmp or .dmp) are located in C:\Program Files\Steam\dumps or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\dumps by default.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Getting the same issue and I don't use Avast.

Right, took a lot of faffing about but sorted it.... I'll stick in step by step what I did but there may be a less convoluted way of sorting it.

It's something to do with the new patch disagreeing with the steam beta thing.

- Go into the steam menu (top left)

- settings

- beta participation.

Apparently you have to be shown as 'opt out', however I was already shown as opt out.

- I opted in and if gives a 'restart steam' message which I did.

- Same again with the intention of now opting out, but again it was still shown as opt out.

- I selected 'opt out' anyway and got the 'restart steam' message which I did

- This time I went to the top left steam menu

- Check for client updates

- This opened an update window and it showed downloading a 30 odd meg download.

- When the download was complete I got yet another 'restart steam' message which I did.

Problem solved :D

Hope it helps :D
