Customers PC marked their carpet who's liable?

Nope work full time fix some pcs on the side have done for nearly 2 decades never seen pc feet mark carpet before!

Did you fix the pc or provide the pc?

I. E did you provide the case and it then melted/whatever or did you fix the pc which already existed? They then asked you to put on the carpet.

If you supplied the whole pc and it caused damage then you may be liable. But if you fixed something that already existed, I'd tell them no.

Did you check the feet to see if it was the rubber that had degraded or whether there was something on the feet? It would be unreasonable to expect a new carpet due to the customer getting something on the feet. But if it was due to oil from the rubber degrading then that is another matter.

Did you ask the customer if it was OK to put the PC on the floor? That could be relevant too.

Also the customer can't expect to be out into a better position because of this. I would try a cleaning company before replacing the carpet and then offer a contribution to the cost of replacement because the carpet is already very old.
