cutting guinea pigs teeth?

I think he might be about 5 human years old so toward the end of his life.
Yeah they don't live much longer. :(

Did the vet say what they thought the nodding might be? Is it like he's having trouble breathing?

I only ask as ours nearly chocked when it drank far too much water (greedy little blighter) and was wheezing for about 20 minutes following the incident. I'd check to see if you can hear if he's making any weird noises.

Edit: Also meant to ask earlier if he might have got a little squashed (and winded) when he was being held down for his teeth to be trimmed?

That's cool. Sorry if it sounded like an accusation. :( It wasn't intended to and i didn't mean to offend... i was only checking. :)

Sounds good then - just see how he gets on and keep us posted.

Afford it or not, your parents, as alluded to above, are pathetic. Subjecting a defenseless animal to that amount of stress is ridiculous. Wire cutters? Are you for real? Or your Dad? FFS.

...and as a result, the poor thing is going to die for little reason.

If you read I said my dad was going to try wire cutters, not me I would not do that, from the time I heard about doing it DIY I said don't and take him to the vets.

I don't think the pig is dieing as a result of this, maybe it's him old and a knock on effect of his overgrown teeth, he seemed to have being eating fine but we have noticed he lost some weight.

We trimmed our GP's teeth and claws as necessary for years it's not rocket science, we had proper trimmers but the ones for teath are virtually identical to a pair of side cutters. Yes the thet squealed and complained when you did it but they did the same at the vets.

If your parents can't afford the treatment for a pet they shouldn't have one in the first place.

If he's chewing on his toys and it's not helping his overgrown teeth may be due to misalignment so will probably have to get cut every few months or so. We had to do this with our rabbit and cut proper trimmers and were shown by the vet.

Sucking in the sides is a sign of pain so it may be that when he was being held down he may have inadvertadly hurt himself struggling. I hope he pulls through.

This is true but you should be shown by the vet first so that you know your doing it the right way otherwise you can do more harm than good!

My mum had him laid down and my dad had some cutters but I managed to stop them doing it!!!! you could see him on his back he was distressed poor thing :(, judging by how much he was moving using cutters could end up yanking his tooth out.

My last rabbit I had died at the vets having his tooth cut and something removed as his tooth cut inside him, he hemorrhaged in anesthetic and died, my mum thinks the pig would never come out of anesthetic too as he's old and apparently they use anesthetic.

These 2 paragraphs are so mental! its unreal, can't believe what I've just read haha

It appears to run in the family. The OP, instead of posting on a hardware forum, should've taken the animal to the vet in the first place. Sometimes I am ashamed to be human.

Appears to run in the family? wtf.....

What a ****** you are

I went outside this morning to get my cycle stuff and seen in his cage, he is laying there dead unfortunatly :(, the VET said there was nothing else wrong with him apart from he's probably very old, they said if he appears in distress put him down.

The only thing was when his stomach was touched he twitched, but it's a sad day and some of the comments in here are very uncalled for, their was nothing wrong with the question on here as tbh there is people experienced with all sorts of things and I knew I'd get just as good a answer on here as most pet forums.

David n.c I don't think the second paragraph is mental at all.

We buried him now, I'm guessing something went wrong with his stomach or something, I noticed diarrhea and my mum said it appears as if he was trying to go to the toilet at the time of death as bits where coming out. But the vet just said let nature take it's course, my dad seen him at about half 3am and he looked fine, I seen him about half 7am so in that 4 hours he passed away.

Should have been Vet first without question.

Think of this as being similar to a medical thread: would you be allowed to post here? No, you'd get told to go to a Doctor's. I'd use the same logic.

I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your pet though :(
