*** Cyberpunk 2077 ***

It looks excellent.

I could never get into the Witcher games, but know they are very highly regarded. The setting looks amazing, just give me some good story telling and I'll be in.

It's not coming out before 2020 according to a French games site (Jeuxvideo.com) so it might not be a cross-gen game but wholly for PC/PS5/XB2.
Not surprised. I would much rather they take their time and get it right so we can have a high quality unique full experience. Unlike Mankind Divided which ended in such an unsatisfying way, which felt like 2/3 of the game to me.

Still annoyed at what Square Enix did to Deus Ex: MD. Then they decided to shelve it when it did not sell enough due to their mistakes.

I was never that interested in 2077 anyway but that trailer just felt so...generic maybe? Not sure if that's the right word but absolutely nothing stood out for me.

Going from this:

To this:

Sure one is not game engine footage, but just the style and tone is so much better. I expected more of that. Instead we got GTA Cyberpunk Edition.

Very underwhelmed by the trailer. Still think it should be great as I trust CD Project Red, but my excitement has definitely dropped.

I think what put me off a bit was the severe lack of any personality in the characters or stand-out individual. It feels very generic, almost like a tech demo in the style of GTA. Does anyone know if CDPR are releasing more information at E3 or is this it?

Needs more gritty bladerunner style vibes, all looks a bit too shiny and clean looking to me. Was hoping for something a bit more bleak and noir.

Still looks decent though.

From what I've been reading, Cyberpunk is not what I thought it was (i.e. neo-noir like Bladerunner). Cyberpunk is based on the punk culture of the 1980s - pink mohicans, leather jackets, tattoos, piercings, that sort of thing but now with cyber enhancements. The world is supposed to be bright and colourful, the cyberpunks rebelling against the black/grey monoculture of the big corporations. Or something like that.

Edit!!

CDPR also hid a message in the trailer too:

It’s been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and… went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things — you announce a game and then shut up, roll up your sleeves and get to work. We wanted to give you the Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine, we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077’s pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At she point we made the decisions to resume talking about the game when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realize you’ve been impatiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn’t like anyone to feel that we’re taking this for granted. On the contrary — it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too :)

But to the point. Today is the day. If you’re seeing this, it means you saw the trailer. - our vision for Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilized life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don’t let the car chases and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You’ll be able to create your own character and… well, you’ll get to know the rest of what show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for the previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions,

1. When?

When we told you we would only release the game when it’s ready, we meant it. We’re definitely much closer to a release date than we were back then ;) but it’s still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us. It’s the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.

2. How big?

Seriously big, but… to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we’ll do this before we start talking about pre-orders or ask anything of you.

3. Free DLC/Expansions/DRM

Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077, will be 100% DRM-free on PC.

4. Microtransactions?

In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion (about anything) with us. We read everything you posted we treat it very seriously.

Yours,

CD PROJEKT RED Team

This is a good read on Eurogamer.
....unconsciously the thing that struck me about Cyberpunk 2077's trailer when I first watched it, the thing that made me lean forward and rewatch it almost instantly, is that it truly is a bit like GTA. This may not be what Gibson was getting at, but that trailer had the crucial things that make GTA successful, I think: it had a confidence in the world it had created and the richness and density of that world. It trusted the world to do the talking.

It does look very GTA. The first trailer had a noir Bladerunner feel to it. I'm willing to give CD the benefit of the doubt though as they have definitely earned a little trust.

I'm assuming that there will be day and night in the world so Night City should feel one way during the day and another at night. Also lol at people saying it looks generic but wanting it to look generically like Bladerunner. Every futuristic game doesn't have to look like Bladerunner you know? Also, there are different 'roles' in the Cyberpunk universe so I imagine it is going to look and play out differently depending on which you choose.

Agreed with whoever said Deus Ex Mankind Divided wasn't quite right. I felt you only got 'slices' of the locations (same with Human Revolution) rather than seeing a whole city, which I hope Cyberpunk will deliver. I think the Deus Ex devs focused more on multiple routes through the levels.

Looking forward to any more info from their booth and previews.

I'm still massively looking forward to this. Probably be a 3XXX series Nvidia card I'll be needing rather than a 2XXX.

Have CDPR ever let us down? Even if you go back to the early days of things like Witcher, they still went back and added stuff, free DLC, changes is combat mechanisms, etc. They are one of the developers who can develop and publish their own stuff, and want to make great games, not just rake in the cash.

It is not about letting us down or not. I am sure the game will be great. Just not what we expected judging by the first trailer is all.

I dunno what you could reasonably extrapolate from that first trailer. It's not like it told us anything about the game, so anyone who built up expectations based on it was likely to be disappointed. It's not like the new trailer actually tells us much either, it just gives us a taste of what the game world might look like, or the atmosphere they are going for - and a lot can change in the next couple of years.
