(sorry for the daily fail link)
Also sorry if this has already been posted.. I did search, promise!

Now, whilst it's not good that the PC didn't know the law, it really annoys me when cyclists break all the road laws, and think they can get away with it.
I have had to break hard to avoid hitting cyclists who break red lights on a number of occasions.

I am pretty sure that it is illegal to jump a red light too. It's certainly against the highway code - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069837

In Ireland, someone got a driving ban for a cycling offence (but I doubt the law is the same in the UK/England) - http://www.independent.ie/national-...iving-ban-for-breaking-red-light-2228117.html

So is there not actually a law making bicycle red light jumping illegal? Cyclist in that video came off a total ****. And I also hate the massive number of 'stick it to the man' youtube comments, as if any attempt to stand up to authority is a good thing .

If a cyclist doesn't obey a red light, they commit an offence. Penalty is either a £60 FPN (IIRC, I think it's a £60) or a summons. If you refuse to give you name and address for the FPN or summons, you could get arrested.

Been posted a while back. I treat them the same as motorists jumping red lights - if it does not impede my progress then I refuse to get annoyed about it as it does no good. If, on the other hand they get in my way whilst doing an illegal manoeuvre, then I will have something to say.

See cyclists doing it all the time, red light? THey bounce up on the curb and go round the light then back on the road.

Just out of interest I do something similar to this , if the light is red I just jump onto the cycle path and then back on the road once passed the junction.

Is this an offence ?

If ever there was a legitimate case for Police bruatlity then this was it. Typical cyclist. Smug, arrogant & a grade A idiot

lol DM readers..

If you are on a junction where there are cars coming perpendicular to your direction and you cross the road you are a moron if the light is red, for cyclist or any other method of transport.

If there is a redlight at a ped crossing or bridge where there are obviously no obstructions coming then I see no problem with a cyclist going through the red light. This is just using common sence.

The difference between a car and cyclist is the car does a lot of damage if it runs the red light and hits someone or something but a cyclist does just a fraction of this which is why they are hardly the same offence.

Back in October I was sat at lights and some complete cretin on a push bike scraped a nice gouge in my paintwork, from nearside rear quarter panel to to the front wing as he forced his way past the line of traffic and ignored the lights we were stopped at. Guess who had to pay for the respray? I'll give you a clue, it wasn't the cyclist or their insurance company.

My exact opinion. If there are no cars obstructing the road then I don't see a problem with a cyclist jumping the red.

Also if they did plan on fining cyclist there would have to be some licence involved for cyclists.
