Cyclists

Lol, usual rubbish in this thread as every time :D

  • I hate cyclists
  • They don't pay insurance or road tax
  • Pedant steps in and says road tax doesn't exist
  • Mug falls for pedant's argument and tries to argue otherwise
  • This goes on for a bit
  • Various opinions for and against cyclists
  • A few people get a bit too wound up about something that actually affects their life very little, if at all
  • Someone gets threatening
  • I get to post about the structure of the thread and
  • ...profit?

Try cycling, and then when you cycle you will understand why cyclists get all worked up lol.

I still don't get this constant argument and moaning about cyclists damaging cars. I cycle to work and I drive my car in and around London. I've never once damaged a car, nor has my car been damaged by a cyclist. I've also never seen much more than the odd wing mirror scrape which does no damage.

At the end of the day, any kind of serious physical damage to a car is likely to mean the bicycle and cyclist is going to be the worse off.

Try being a cyclist for more than a week and then see how bad (generally) car drivers are compared to the minority of bad cyclists.

The funny thing is that the demographic of society more prepared to hop on a bike, are those more likely to be more wealthy and therefore contribute more in the way of income taxes, national insurance, and also to have more expensive cars sitting in their garage for the weekends than the plebians that think cycling is for losers. We have two cars actually, but I still cycle and leave the bike in the garage as I enjoy it.

Therefore wrong uns like the OP should be thanking cyclists for being upstanding members of society, that pay more for his daughter's NHS treatment than he probably does. More cyclists on the road makes your daughter's world a safer place to be, as for each cyclist there's one less car likely to cause a serious metal vs. metal accident.

I don't understand the logic of saying that 'cyclists don't compensate or don't have the means to compensate because they don't have insurance'.

You pay for insurance to cover you and others for any damage you may cause in your car. You do this because crashing your car is likely to cause more damage that you could afford within your cash flow and possible more than your entire estate is worth. Both of those cases are unlikely in the case of a cyclist and so they are not obliged to pay insurance. Instead they just pay of the damage they cause out of their pocket.

First thing drivers are told when in an accident is not to admit liability, but to leave it up to the police and insurance to decide. Is this any different from what everyone of these threads alleges cyclists do?

You have the means to recover the costs and expenses though the small claims court but you have chose not to do that. You can blame the cyclist for causing the accident, but you can't really blame him for you being out of pocket, now can you?

There's bad motorists (above, OP etc) and bad cyclists (bloody everywhere). Lets just get from A to B and try not to kill each other in the process.
 
Don't mind cyclists at all, however motorcyclists are a different breed no rules apply to them but they want them applied to everyone else ;)

You haven't raised any points to question, other than my income, tax bill, daughters NHS usage, my intelligence, athleticism etc, etc. ALL topics you stated as fact without ever have even met me and NONE of which are either on topic, or indeed, any of your business.

If you feel the need to use both the road (where you belong) and the pavement (where you don't) then you should dismount your bike and walk with it along the pavement until you decide to return to the road. The pavement isn't meant for cyclists, so don't cycle on it.
 
There's nothing wrong with using the pavement for the odd shortcut in certain areas to get around as long as you're sensible about it.

Also if you want cyclists to pay taxes and be treated like drivers then expect us to use the roads fully and not cycle at the sides, im sure you'll have a new set of complaints when it takes you five times as long to get to where you're going. :)

From my experiences I've found jaywalking peds to be the worst though, I had several step out in front of me this morning without looking. Sorry but it's hard to keep calm in that situation!

You really have no understanding of the taxation system in this country, or how traffic flow works do you?
