D&D 5e, starting a game soon, any DM's have tips?

Probably not finding a DM through here (despite enjoying it I'm sorry but I really cannot commit the time to make it enjoyable for players) so leaves 2 options.

1) attempt to use the GME module to play, I've tested it through solo play and when you're over the initial humps it can run quite smoothly though obviously if you are looking for a more immersive experience some of that is lost as you roll for answers.

2) advertise for a group on roll20, 4 players looking for a DM to run a recurring game on X night at C hours and see what turns up. Roll20 suffers similar issues to real life though with an excess of players and less DM's.

Just a thought! :)

What's the GME module? Not heard of that before.

Game Master Emulator.

Essentially you can run any pre-written or even free form (they can actually run much better) adventure whereby you don't need a DM. Essentially all decisions are taken on a fate chart through asking simple yes/no questions. It's more complex than that, introducing chaos rule, logic etc of how events take place but it's actually really fun but as I say it loses a little immersion when you use the model to clarify details. Then when combat situations arise you use game rules to do combat as per.

OK - I'll run a one off Roll20 game if there's enough interest (although I think I could get my face-to-face group to fill any gaps).

I'm off on holiday in a couple weeks, so it will need to be fairly soon, or after I get back (I'd rather run it after I get back) - there's a Bank Holiday Monday coming up, I suggest we consider running it on the Sunday night, about 6pm, for three hours - and see how that goes? All provisional at this stage, of course.

There's a starter adventure on Roll20 called The Master's Vault. It's free, so no outlay required (I'll renew my Roll20 subscription for the game). It should require minimal preparatory work, and it has a set of 6 pregenerated characters. So if you haven't already downloaded it, please don't! That said, I often change things on the fly just to keep people on their toes.

Are you a DM by the sounds of it?

I'd be up for that, any chance I could suggest a start time of 7 or 730 though as I have to get the kids to bed.

I'll have to dig out my roll20 details as well :p

Yep, I'm a DM, and have run hundreds of games since the 80s. It's not that difficult, but experience does help a little.

It was just a suggested date. If half the people who want to play can't make that night, we'll just play a different night. What about the bank holiday Monday?

What is the date?

Also is this a recurring thing or one off? If it is recurring Monday's I'll drop out as any day apart from Sunday my attendance would be flaky as I'm away a lot with work and Sunday is my only 100% guarantee I'm home night (well Friday's and Saturdays too but I need to see the wife occasionally :p)

Pookie said it'd be a one off so I don't think it's intended as a regular Monday. Normally I wouldn't be able to do either but Bank Holiday Monday (29th maybe?) is good.

Yep, my intention was always for a one-off game. I have a regular face-to-face group, and I just felt a little sorry for the guy who couldn't get a game (Nodiggidy123). I love my gaming nights, so I thought I'd give up some time to either help him get hooked, or sate his curiosity.

Yes, the Bank Holiday Monday is July 29th.

So, if folk can confirm they want to join, I'll set up a game on Roll20 and if people could email me through Trust, I'll send the link out (you'll need a login for Roll20 too). Maximum six players, those who have answered in the thread get first option (apart from Nodiggidy123, who gets first spot).

This sounds like fun Pookie! Was wondering if you had 2 spots left for me and my girlfriend?

We recently started playing DnD and would be cool to see how another DM does things. I realise we're a little late to the party though so no worries if no spots free or whatever!
