D&D 5e, starting a game soon, any DM's have tips?

Just about to start a new game myself, albeit in the flesh... The Mrs and a couple of her friends expressed an interest... so after much sighing, I've gotten a friend to DM (he's been doing it 30-odd years and won numerous competitions... which I didn't even know existed) and we're just about there. Got us the usual mix, including the Wood Elf Ranger and everything.

We're playing 3.5ed, though, as later revisions seem a bit OTT for a basic fantasy intro system... DM only uses the books as guidelines anyway, as things like stats get altered to more real-world values...

Pookie did I trust you in time? not had an email for Roll20. Obviously if you are full not problem.
You did. I've emailed again.

Yes, all characters are level 1. It's a starter adventure just to get people involved and show the true power of Roll20. I think we may all learn something.

As for voices, you don't need voices to role-play, you just need to actually put yourself in the shoes of someone else entirely. Whether you decide that requires a dodgy Scottish accent for your Dwarven fighter is entirely up to.

Oh, and I make no apologies for my voices. I do accents from all over the place, and they're awful! I'm occasionally guilty of regional stereotyping as well - again, no apologies :D

Nonewts. Do you wanna take my spot? Just found out missus has booked a holiday leaving bank holiday Monday. Sorry guys. Another time tho if the offer is still there

I will if you don't mind.

If Pookie just assigns me a class I will be there.

I'm away on holiday with the extended family and convinced some of them to try a game on s horrifically rainy day. 17 year old lad, 16 year old lass, 30 year old bloke and my wife all with no interest and they loved it by the end :p I had to completely wing the story and just "fate" decide a lot that happened but after 3 hours they are demanding I continue tonight :p

I've plotted out the continuation of tonight properly and rather looking forward to it. We have Father Jack the alcoholic priest (the teenage lad) who tried to derail things at first but had him doing wisdom checks to complete actions and had him bless his bottle of whisky which he hit off a guards head with a crit hit and maxed out 2d6 dmg roll killing the guard dead with one shot. He was hooked after that :p

Oh my god I am excited...!

Do we get to pick our own 1st level spells and the like? or are they premade sheets entirely?
The character sheets are fully detailed (spells included) - all it needs is a name.

Got the mail, I'll try and login at some point tonight/tomorrow.

Only just got back from the lakes.
If you could update the forum on Roll20 with your name that would help too.

For us that couldn't join in, we'll get a full report won't we?
Hopefully it will be enough fun that someone will at least mention what happened (and let's hope it isn't a TPK).

Well, since I am the bard of the party, I will endeavour to regal you all insong and story!
Now that's what I call getting into your role :D

All characters have been assigned apart from those whose names I'm not sure on or who aren't on Roll20 yet (Greenja and No1newts) - I would have used my powers of deduction, but we have an extra player. Feel free to log in and have a look around your character sheet - ask any questions if you want, and test out the die rolling system.
