D600 with full fat AF system!

Nikon d600 down to 1600 quid on amazon. Seems like Nikon uk realized listened to the public and cut the prices drastically.

That puts it at a clean 200 pounds cheaper than the canon 6d currently on amazon. The 6d must surely shift to the 1300-1400 mark.

Not a bad price now, I guess they didn't want the same thing to happen as with the D800 where they undervalued it and then raised prices on people.

I still expect prices to creep towards £1400 over the coming months once supply is plentiful.

I had a question about the D600 (or FX DLRs in general). What do people mean when they say it can autofocus up to f/8? That the camera is incapable of AF at f/9, f/11 etc?

Lenses have an aperture value which is their widest setting. For example a 300mm f4 lens is obviously f4. When the camera body focuses it uses the widest aperture the lens is capable of. Now if you add a 2x TC to this 300mm f4 lens it becomes a 600mm f8 lens. This is where the capability to AF at F8 is important, as a 300mm f4 lens with a TC is a lot cheaper than buying a 600mm f4 lens!

The 1DX has been shown to actually work at f8 when using a Kenko TC without any issue, I'm not sure about the 5D3. A lot of Canon shooters are keeping their 1DIV's!

It's with any camera. However there are ways of getting round it sometimes by taping the pins on a TC for example. Also some cameras do just still work but the AF is usually quite slow.

The low light performance on the D600 looks good, especially considering its resolution bump over the D700. The major downside to the camera is the AF system though as all 39 points are concentrated in the middle of the frame :S Theres no coverage on the rule of third lines either which isn't exactly great news.

Glad i got my D700 now, D600 is pretty bad low light as far as i can tell form some reviews, D800 is better however, But i only paid £1000 for my D700 in min cond with 956 shots and 2 batts etc :P.:rolleyes:

You got a bit lucky on the D700 there :p most i've seen around the 1k mark are 100-150k shutter count and / or battered.

:confused::confused::confused:
The low light performance is much better than the D700. Any website saying he opposite is just plain wrong.

Sorry, but on what planet is the D600 low light performance "pretty bad". What exactly brought you to that logical conclusion?
