Dalglish resigned/sacked?

There won't be any City/Chelsea type spending. The clubs aim is to compete in the same way Barca compete with Real.

By buying Arsenals players continually? ;)

Come of it Barca hardly have a small budget, it's worked for them in one period of time, much like when Fergie was fortunate to have a coaching team hand him a bunch of kids.

Where are Barca getting replacements from, certainly not on the cheap and the wage bill is likely enormous.

Goodluck Brendan, great interview, has been made very clear that this won't be a short process and I'm guessing the owners get that now too. Hopefully we finish a fair few points further up the table next year and have a decent run in Europe.

In relation to Real, they don't spend a great deal. The core of their side have come through their academy and it's on the back of the success that's brought them that has allowed them to start spending a bit more over the last few years.

Don't they still massively over spend though? Aren't they financed in a less than honest way. Not that I know the details just bit's I've read over the years.

Haven't the academy players dried up though, like uniteds so they are being forced to spend like everyone else?

I understand the blue print and why Liverpool owners might want to copy it, but you have to be extremely fortunate to get a bunch together like United did or Barca have through a period in history. Otherwise you drip feed them in like say Everton and they get poached to a better club.

i thought rafa had made changes to get it working better, iirc didn't he manage to get some of barca's academy people over to start rebuilding the way they did things ?

Barca's finances are complicated. There's all sorts of figures thrown around regarding how much they owe and who it's owed to so it's difficult to comment too much on that. In terms of profitability they're fairly stable and their finances are improving.

I'm not sure about their academy players drying up or it being completely down to fortune that they got a crop of players come through that enabled them to compete though. Obviously to get a player like Messi come through the ranks is a once in a lifetime thing but Barca have been bringing a steady supply of players into the first team over the last 10 or so years. With the likes of Thiago beginning to force himself into the side and others like Tello starting to emerge, it doesn't look like that supply is drying up.

danny's actually talking about Barca's academy rather than Liverpool's but yes, Benitez revamped our academy and it's now headed up by the guys that run Barca's. We're already starting to see the benefit of that too.

ahh ok :)

stop bloody confusing me danny

thought the young players pep brought in last season did ok, and will develop given chance, just think that the pressure on them , for some of the games they were asked to play in was a bit to much for them.

Surely there is a big difference though - in that La Liga is so uncometetive, even in a bad season Real can finish 2nd even while bringing through inexperienced youth into their 1st team, if you do that currently you will surely finish outside the top 6

All strong Liverpool supporters were bemoaning the purchases last season , for right or wrong, do you honestly think you can attract the future Torres' or Reina's in the next couple of years without CL constantly?

(which imo really relies on the new /larger stadium - which is 2/3 years away minimum given Stanley Park has been totally written off now....if this is wrong then fair enough but I think I read that somewhere recently)

(Its a genuine question, Im not trying to flame or anything)

edit- Im not criticizing your academy as it has really strengthened over the last few years (from what Ive read here), I was just thinking that CL games have to be gaurenteed year on year before Liverpool can hope to do the Real/ Barca comparison without major risk

We're not simply going to rely on bringing players through but a big emphasis is going to be on the academy because very simply, the cheapest way to get players into your first team is if you produce them.

As for attracting future Torres's and Reina's. Yes and that's where the money we spend will be focused. We can't attract the ready made Torres's or Reina's right now so we'll be going after potential stars.

Agree.

Not sure a stadium will bring a player in but CL football and an enthusiatic MD will!

the stadium directly wont - but the added seating will assist in paying higher saleries those kinds of players demand (as Anfield is relatively small capacity wise)

Possibly, but the initial expenditure would mean years of paying for the stadium first.

I agree but this is a more long term solution really. But we do need a new stadium. I love Anfield, my fave seat is in the upper centinary but its smack bang in the middle of a dump.

45000 is still in the top lot in the country.

Good luck to Brendan Rogers, it's going to be difficult to break into the top 4 so should be an interesting season. I think it's vital for them to start well.

You can sit in the seats at Anfield? I physically can't sit beside my mate as we're both not midgets, anfields seating is an embarrassment.
