Dalglish resigned/sacked?

Don't know why people are unhappy with this, Dalglish's legendary status is giving him a free pass that no other manager would get with some of the mistakes he's made.

He's gone at the right time for me, still a legend in the eyes of the fans, staying on the only way to go was down. Results tell you the Dalglish effect had warn off a long time ago.

I suspect part of the decision is based on not trusting him spending money again, which I can understand. Bad buys do happen, but the price to performance ratio has been so poor with all of the big signings except for Suarez, you can't expect it to be purely people outside the club that are wondering how the hell all that money went to so much waste.

No doubt in my mind that Liverpool will only improve from this point on, hard to see them getting any worse.

Martinez would be a good appointment but I doubt the fans would give him a chance. Any manager coming from a smaller premier league side is going to get a rough ride (a la Hodgson) as the fans will feel the signing demonstrates a lack of ambition. I can't see AVB wanting to come back to English football for a while and I think Pep wants a break too, so I think Martinez is probably the favorite.

It will certainly be harder for a manager that's not proven himself at a club the size of Liverpool but providing he doesn't try to bring his small club mentality to Liverpool (a la Hodgson), he'll be given time. Houllier was after all.

FENWAY SPORTS GROUP AND LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB PART COMPANY WITH MANAGER KENNY DALGLISH

Search for new Manager begins immediately as owners pay tribute to 'legend' Dalglish

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Liverpool Football Club announced that Kenny Dalglish is to leave his post today as Manager after having his contract terminated.

After a careful and deliberative review of the season, the Club came to the decision that a change was appropriate. It is not a decision that was reached lightly or hastily.

The search for a new Manager will begin immediately.

Principal owner John Henry was fulsome in his praise for the outgoing Manager.

"Kenny will always be more than a championship winning manager, more than a championship winning star player. He is in many ways the heart and soul of the club. He personifies everything that is good about Liverpool Football Club. He has always put the Club and its supporters first. Kenny will always be a part of the family at Anfield.

"Our job now is to identify and recruit the right person to take this Club forward and build on the strong foundations put in place during the last 18 months."

Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner said it was a tough decision, but ultimately one that needed to be made.

"Kenny came into the Club as Manager at our request at a time when Liverpool Football Club really needed him. He didn't ask to be Manager; he was asked to assume the role. He did so because he knew the Club needed him. He did more than anyone else to stabilize Liverpool over the past year-and-a-half and to get us once again looking forward. We owe him a great debt of gratitude.

"However, results in the Premier League have been disappointing and we believe to build on the progress that has already been made, we need to make a change.

"We are committed to delivering success for our supporters and our ambition remains resolute to return this great Club to the elite of England and Europe, where it belongs."

Kenny Dalglish's departure brings to an end his second spell at the Club where, as a player, he won numerous honours, including six English league titles and three European Cup trophies. As Manager he won three league titles, two FA Cups and of course this season, the Carling Cup.

Dalglish said he is proud to have served such a great Club.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to have had the chance to come back to Liverpool Football Club as Manager. I greatly appreciate the work that Steve, Kevin, the players and all of the staff put in during my time and feel proud that we delivered the Club's first trophy in six years winning the Carling Cup and came close to a second trophy in the FA Cup Final. Of course I am disappointed with results in the league, but I would not have swapped the Carling Cup win for anything as I know how much it meant to our fans and the Club to be back winning trophies.

"Whilst I am obviously disappointed to be leaving the football club, I can say that the matter has been handled by the owners and all concerned in an honourable, respectful and dignified way and reflects on the quality of the people involved and their continued desire to move the football club forward in the same way as when they arrived here.

"I would like to thank all of the staff at the Club for their effort and loyalty. I said when first approached about coming back as Manager that I would always be of help if I can at any time and that offer remains the same.

"Finally, I want to put on record my heartfelt gratitude to Liverpool's fans, who have always given me and the Club their unwavering support. Without them neither the Club nor I would have achieved anything."

Does this apply to liverpool anymore? Take away a fluke cl in 2005 and the odd cup and sad to say it, we are the new leeds or forest. Has beens in other words. Maybe lowering the expextations is the way to go.

There's only Jose Mourinho who i'd get for Liverpool. Someone with balls to sell half the team and rebuild.

Its going from bad to worse chasing Roberto Martinez, who just managed to scrap Wigan out of the drop zone in the last 3 games.

No league title for the past 22 years is pretty poor.

So you think Martinez and Lambert are going to attract the types of players we need, with no CL football and and a transfer kitty a fraction of what City, Utd and Chelsea have? Not a chance in hell.

I'm convinced if Benitez had similar support in the last couple of year as he did in the first three he would have added a title to his trophy hall.

No I don't at all, but like I also said, we need someone to get our existing players to actually play!! Throwing out half of the players is not the answer - we're agreed, as we simply can't do it. So someone / anyone, needs to get the players we have playing to at least 90% of their ability each week, not the 50% we've been accustomed to. Once that happens who knows...

They spent £100m+? Does the money brought back in not count?

And if you have no understanding of the game, how are you in a position to sack a manager and then pick his replacement?

No, money brought back in doesn't count, when will Liverpool fans get this.

You sell 1 player and bring in 10mil, no players and no money or sell the entire squad and raise £100mil.

That is money in, when you SPEND money on players, that is £120mil, it does not matter if that money comes from loans, money from player sales or from Daglish's ass, he's spent £120mil, the financial safety of spending isn't in question.

The only question is HOW he spent £120mil, he could have spent around £18mil on, Cabaye, Tiote, Ba and Cisse, instead he chose to spend £120 mil on one good player and a pile of garbage.

How much brought in is only used in comparison to how Liverpools spending stacks up to other clubs, NOT on how well a manager spent that money. Daglish spent it almost as badly as you possibly could have, you could have spent £20mil on the same number of players to be exactly as bad.

AS for having no understanding of the game, and if the owners are in a position to sack the manager. Owners ask manager, how much do you need to get in the top four as that is our target..... manager gives owners list of players and prices, they agree. A year later all the signings have been utter flops, completey, they are doing far worse with these signings. There is no football coming into it, this is a manager of a company, who absolutely failed, miserably, to achieve any target he was set and said he could achieve, he spent massively to do so, and wasted the vast majority of the money he spent, while also overseeing Liverpool's name being tainted over a racist allegation that he handled entirely inappropriately.

The 'owners' can sack a manager :)

How much money did winning the League cup get you?

Good decision, I hope that now Liverpool can set in motion changes to allow themselves to build back up to what they once were.

100k, and Cardiff got 50k, big money the joke cup ;)

The runner up in 2009/10(first link I found) get 1.8mil in the FA cup, winner got 2.7mil, so Liverpool actually did massively, ridiculously better financially losing the FA cup than winning the joke cup.

I don't think Hodgson was expected to win the league instantly, same with Dalglish and the next guy. It's not the expectations that need to be in check, as Baz said it's the mentality, specifically the small club mentality from Hodgson that in the end was his undoing.

You can argue he didn't get a fair shake at it, maybe he didn't, but at the same time he did seem out of his depth from quite early on. An obvious example would be the signing of Paul Konchesky, I have absolutely no problem with Liverpool fans feeling players like Konchesky have no business at their club.
