'Dangerous Driving' by learner?

Sounds to me that somebody doesn't like being out-accelerated by a learner! They are making a big fuss about nothing and probably a member of a group that report people's numberplates and write nasty letters and put them under your wiper blades.

^^ Just what I was thinking. I'm all for making a stand/complaint if needed but this is just something a shrewd jobsworth would do

Thing is, I am not cheap! I do a really good job, no really I do, OK i charge accordingly but I train really good safe drivers who can drive progressivly and not like a granny.

I dont teach to 'pass the test' I teach to be a good , safe competant driver capable of driving anywhare not just on test routes etc.

So how can I do that if I dont get the pupils to drive normally? This person is just the sort that thinks we should certainly train people to drive well but not when it inconveinences him!

You hear enough complaints about pupils getting ripped off by ADI's but I really do give a monkey's about the standard of my pupils driving. Then you get this rubbish lol!

Thats the one we were on the A92 south from Dundee across the large Bankhead roundabout and off to Kirkcaldy.

.

know if very well those nice men with the battenburg'd bmw's took my licence away for indulging in some sport in that very spot back in 1999

From your written description of the events - you and your learner were absolutely not in the wrong.

Your replies to the emails were very well written, and very diplomatically put - clearly explaining your side of the story :)

I'm guessing the driver of the blue car was a string-backed glove & peaked cap driver, with a tartan blanket on the rear parcel shelf? ;)

Sound's like someone got Owned and obviously got caught out by the acceleration of the Mini. Sour Grapes.

Making progress is and always will be one of the most important aspects of driving and learning, hell I'd of told them to stuff it. The learner did nothing wrong

After replying in the very professional way that you have, I would now treat them with the contempt they deserve, and forget the whole thing.

To be honest I was too busy looking ahead and around the car keeping an eye on what was happening/likley to happen to clock the driver properly.

Thing is I was really surprised to get the email! I thought nothing of it at the time!

I suspect they do indulge in the odd bit of haberdashery..... Maybe even the odd plumassiery... ;)

Do Mini's accelerate then what was she driving, the 1.6 n.a. i drove was gutless :D

Its not when its the only car youve driven, and itll quite happily beat the 306 I bought after learning in a Cooper.

I think you dealt with that quite professionally, and I dont see why there should be any area for complaint, as long as your pupil accelerated safely given the conditions. Its also nice ot see you allow, and encourage your pupils to use the cars power to progress.

Sounds like another person brainwashed by the speeding is always bad malarky, couldn't do 71 or 72 to overtake because otherwise they would then have to deal with a torrent of meteorites and babies falling onto the road.

Very professional response, although I suppose you have to be! I certainly would struggle using insults and naughty words :p

Well reasoned and thought out responses Dashik, it definitely sounds like someone's ego has been dented.

Thanks! For as much as I know sometimes that I can appear holier than thou when I reply to some of the motoring threads I can assure you all that I actually practice what I preach and that I do teach people to drive safely but that does not mean I dont encourage them to 'enjoy' their cars etc. its just a pity that some other road users think the roads are soley for there use......

Sounds like someone assumed a learner driver would be slow. I used to hate that when i was learning. I once got undertaken at a junction by a bunch of young lads, nearly had a rather nasty accident, he obviously didn't expect me to pull out as soon as it was clear..

Is that not half the fun though? I mean just because the limits 70 it does not mean that you cannot use the power of the car to advantage as long as you are safe, and no, for the record, I did not tell her to 'boot it'and make it awkward for the other driver.

She did in fact just get on with it as she was taught having first checked both mirrors. The only thing she did not do as well was think about the lorry she was going to have to pass down the road. So she learned something useful :D

Wait a minute !

If the described part of the A92 is the part I think it is then after a tiny amount of uphill it actually goes downhill.....

Hmmm

I'm surprised at how reasonable your responses were. Whoever wrote that is just rather bitter by the sounds of it. Keep on truckin'

Should have attached an advert for a driving refresher course to be honest :p .

Jokester

An ADI friend suggested i send this -

Dear Mrs R.Sole

I have passed your e-mail onto the local police who will be greatly interested in why you so freely admit to exceeding the legal speed limit, and driving without due care and attention.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer you a discount on a block of remedial lessons in order that you can learn to drive properly, in accordance with the rules of the highway code, and so that you can stay within the confines of the Road Traffic Act. Unfortunately, it may take you some time to achieve the level of competence required to reach the basic standard. But I'm sure, if you are prepared to put in the effort, you will one day get to be as good a driver as the rest of my pupils.

Yours A Professional.

I refrained but only just :D
