Danny Baker sacked

he didn't liken him to an ape.

he posted a pic of an ape in a suit saying the new baby had arrived. for comedy effect it only offended because it happened to be a monkey in the suit it could have easily have been a goat.

IMO he shouldn't have been sacked and all the coloured people on tv calling it a disgrace are morons just wanting publicity / money.

Is that like if a football fan throw a banana onto the pitch and his defence is "I was littering"?

He knew her mum is black, he works in the media, there was a massive Royal Wedding, it was on TV and the news for days, there were stories about her mum being there and whatnot.

The whole "he may not have known' doesn't really hold any water.

that is different because it's directly aimed at a coloured player.

like i say it could have easily have been a goat in the picture. i don't see anything wrong with what he did. however bananas being thrown at coloured players is directly racist and has those connotations along with it.

so if he had posted a picture of a lamb in a suit it would have been okay?

"attempting to lampoon privilege & the news cycle I went to a file of goofy pictures & saw the chimp dressed as a Lord and thought, "That's the one!" Had I kept searching I might have chosen General Tom Thumb or even a a baby in a crown. But I didn't. God knows I wish had."

and there you have it

Yes, though again it wouldn't really represent what his supposed aim was - i.e. media "circus"

Who associates lambs or chimps with the circus?

it wasn't aimed at them at all.

it was a joke about a animal dressed as a lord and status of privilege that even an animal if born into wealth will be treated like a lord.

the issue is it was a monkey and could easily have been another animal and people picked up the racial connotation rather than the innocent humour behind it.

if he wanted to be racist i don't believe a true racist would have made it so subtle.

he posted it without thinking about the racist connotation. therefore not racist. those that it offended are pansies who need to man up.

FYI - I am not white so having been subject to racist abuse over the last 30 years I know what true racism is and his post wasn't racist.

Fair apology.

Minutes later I was alerted by followers that this royal baby was of course mixed race and waves of panic and revulsion washed over me. ****, what had I done? I needed no lessons on the centuries slurs equating simians and people of colour. Racism at it's basest.

Even he admits it was racist, even though that wasn't his intent.

It's not directed at the player, it was thrown on the pitch, the pitch is massive :p

He tweeted at the same time when they had the baby, are you saying he wasn't referring to them and some random stranger who also had a baby?

Yes, if it is anything else it would have been okay.

Remember, he is a massive well known football fan, he knows 100% what the connotation of a monkey/chimp/ape or any reference of that means towards a black person.

He works in the media.

He would have had a head concussion not to know both and what his tweet would do. If you don't see it as racist then you have been living under a rock for the past 30 years.

you have to use the full context here.

had he simply posted a photo of a monkey then i would say it's pretty obviously racist.

it was a small chimp dressed up in a suit and the intent behind it was humour.

thats like saying all hindus are racist for using artwork containing swastikas.

therefore all hindus should be apologising to jews and coloured people.

context matters here. it's obvious he never meant the racist connotations associated with monkeys and therefore wasn't racist. like i said it could have easily have been any other animal it just happened to be a monkey.

context is what sets this apart.

there was a guy at speakers corner who got accused of being racist because he was dancing and people thought he was acting like a monkey in front of a black guy. when he was simply dancing. context sets that apart too. as he wasn't dancing directly in front of the black guy or calling him a monkey, etc he was simply dancing and his dance happened to be in a similar fashion to a monkey hopping about. but a coloured guy took it the wrong way.

And the fact now that he has apologised fully means what? Stop defending it already, he has admitted it now too.

The context is that they had a baby, the context is that she is mixed race, the context is that 99.99% he knows all the fact, the context is that he posted that tweets with that knowledge, at the time of the baby being born.

Had he posted that randomly 6 months ago it would have meant nothing. The context is that he posted it just as they had a baby means everything.

That's context.

so hindus are racist too then because in context the swastika is associated with hitler and the nazis and has been ever since they used it as their symbol. so for the past 90 years it's use has been majority wise been in the context of racism.

It means a lot of people are attributing a lot of importance to the words and opinions of someone I've not heard even mentioned since the late 1980s... I didn't think he even still held celebrity status any more. Heck Jason Donovan has had more publicity lately.

Its not about being a celebrity.

Anyone who does anything that paints their employer in a bad light would get the sack for gross misconduct. He is on the air on the BBC, therefore anything he says will reflect on the BBC.

That is hardly new, and didn’t need to be explained.
