DAoC Origins

I really enjoyed DAOC with Darkness Falls, however a lot of people including me felt that it had gone down hill from SI onwards and hence we stopped playing and moved onto something else. I for one would like a server with DF as already mentioned

Some cool videos mate, and music too :)

Do you still play?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed them! They were my pride and joy back in the day :)

Nah, unfortunately I quit around 3 weeks after New Frontiers went live and never went back. A few months ago when DAoC Origins was initially announced and heavily hyped, we started playing on a classic freeshard called Eden with an FG, which was a lot of fun, then the WAR beta really started to kick off and our interest in the freeshard dwindled. :( Have had just as much, if not more fun playing on that freeshard for that month as I've had playing WAR really.

We did indeed join Natures Eye (something you've just reminded me of :) ). I was Mortak, a Nature Drood. I didn't do much RvR until my last few weeks; it was my first MMO and PvP was still a bit daunting back then. Towards the end I used to run with Trelawney Hope (with whom I moved onto Planetside, where he continued to own).

I remember Malev, and Jamie, and Furball, and Droooood Dude, halcyon days :)

/edit: What server are you on in WAR? I've seen an Eclipse guild on Eltharion and always wondered if it was you ...

I remember you :D I used to hang around with Trelawney a lot too back in my pre-Eclipse days, Void Eld brothers in arms ;) Played Planetside a little bit with him and his lot too, I didn't stay long though.

Malev is in my guild in WAR (Merely Mortal - http://merely.wardbeard.org), Jamie is in Na Fianna Dragun still and on our WAR server, as is Drooooood too, all in our new alliance "Ghosts of Emain" (We're 10 guilds all ex-Prydwen/Excal). :)

We're playing on Karak Eight Peaks, you'll find a lot of old pryd players there on both sides, even Soul Pact have had a revival and have a new guild called "Ravens Bane" with Etharion, Maleg, Cernos, Baagoo, Lasiien et al.

Yeah we've seen the Eclipse guild going around, sadly they're just random ex-WoWers sadly - nothing to do with our fine guild. They were originally on our server, but I think they moved due to the initial queues on our server which have now totally disappeared. Shame really, they were destruction and I would have loved laying the smackdown on them! ;)

That's a shame, maybe Origins will bring back a few old faces.

How do the free shards work, are they identical to the subscription ones?

Some guys made a platform called Dawn of Light (http://www.daocportal.net/) which is basically completely customisable, some freeshards are Instant lvl 50, instant RR4 (Eden was like this) and some you have to level 1-50.

I really liked Eden as it allowed my guild and I to roll on the server and instantly start off with a viable FG, albeit low RR. Eden was instant 50, classic frontiers (old emain etc.), but all expansions left in. You didn't need to PvE at all, everything could be purchased with bounty points, MLs, Items, fancy stuff like Mythirians from later exp packs all available to buy from bounty points. It felt like old times again - curse that darn WAR beta for putting a stop to the fun! hehe.

I'd be tempted but in all honesty Warhammer PvP is so much fun and no need to play 24/7 to take part and actually contribute to it.

At least they're doing it for the best period of the game though and not just after TOA was released, it'd be one empty new server if they'd done that :)

Is Eden still up then, as their forum just keeps kicking me in the crotch?

Hm, seems like Eden might have died, or been taken over renamed to Genesis www.genesis-daoc.com, looks like it's the latter case as the website is identical to eden's. :) There're 200 people on it just now, might not sound like a lot but that means quite a healthy number in Emain if you think about the fact that it's instant 50, 75-80% of that number will be in Emain. :)

Eden had its cap raised from 250 to 500 while I was there and usually had around 400-450 people on in evenings, it got so zergy that they opened up Odins as an alternative RvR zone. :)

Correct, Genesis used to be Eden.

I thought I'd give it a go and I must say it's been REALLY enjoyable sofar. I played over the weekend and rolled a Wizard and a Scout, took the Scout out for some solo action after taking advantage of the instant level 50, free buffs (albeit at a small BP cost), used their nice ingame tool to make my armour and weapons look like I wanted and headed out to Emain. The rest is history I guess as I had a whale of a time, there was lots of action (most of it me dieing) and I've now put WAR on hold while I enjoy DAoC again :)

www.daocportal.net for anyone that's interested, Genesis server on their server list. Come join the fun :)

Strangely enough, it probably has more people playing than WAR, so i might check it out.

Lol well the way I think of it is it's free and you get free level 50 chars to have some fun in RvR with so why not :)

My Scout is called Sarci if you want to drop me a tell and I'll try to explain how things work if you don't know.

Sound. Though i think i'd go back to WAR when server transfers come in, as it's good when there's people, although the PvE for me is shocking still heh.

Yeh, aint got a clue about DaoC, one of the few MMO's i never tried, think i was on SWG when it was about and it never got much coverage from media.

I bet the DL would be huge though, years of patches and expansions.

DAoC.. free? What's that all about then? Not much info on the webby that I can make sense of.

It's a group of people that have taken the DAoC platform, thrown it on a server and opened it up to the public. This link shows you what you need to download to be able to play. Also if you select the Genesis server from the server list it will show you some more details and take you to the forums.

If I remember correctly the download from the above site is instant, but then the patching is about 3.2 gig, which took about 3 hours for me, but I am only on a 2 meg link.

Genesis Forums

That's the link to the forums. In addition and if you're more of a 8v8 RvR kinda guy, then there are quite a few guilds that enjoy this, and the GMs, for example broadcast when their are groups in Agromon waiting for fights :)

So, providing I can convince/bully my landlord into opening up the ports, I can download the client, find/connect to Genesis, insta-roll a lvl50 of my choice, then join the pwnage?

If so.. I'm sold!

You are correct, Welcome onboard :)

P.S. My scout is called Sarci, drop me a tell if you want.

Excellent. Now I just need to coerce my landlord into opening the ports, else I'll be making my own shard and doing a lot of PvE :p
