US: Dark Matter - may contain spoilers

It's not a strange choice at all, just one that came out of a boardroom, by all accounts Killjoys is a lot cheaper to produce with a small difference in viewing numbers. Same reason Wynonna Earp got renewed and Dark Matter got cancelled. One needs expensive sets and CGI for almost any story they want to tell, one needs 3 seconds of a gun barrel glowing and some eyeliner for it's bad guys.

Plus that business of Dark Matter being a licensed from Dark Horse and Killjoys being created for SyFy/Space.

It is still a strange choice (the amount SyFy cancels shows that are doing OK even if not the most lucrative) looking to the long term as increasingly customers will be turned away from SyFy shows because they are too wary of investing in them in case they quickly get cancelled. Plus they've completely failed to effectively monetise shows like this.

This is how SyFy have operated for years. They have no interest in growing a show, they just look at cost vs income, and cancel whatever is bottom of the list. Then they try some new shows and see what sticks. Or put on some wrestling. It all started to go downhill when they cancelled Farscape, and I think it was because of a change of management at the top that didn't really know anything about sci-fi, and just started looking at how to make money quickly.

Farscape was a great show but it had pretty much had its time really. But yeah it went downhill from there I guess I've just not watched a lot of their shows since then really until The Expanse and Dark Matter.

Except they won't. SyFy have been pulling this for 20 years now, long before they rebranded with the name that sounds like something you catch off a Polish lass at a truck stop. People will stamp their little booties, have an ineffectual little tantrum, swear they won't watch anything from them ever again, until they announce their mid season line up, have a bunch of media behind it telling people that SyFy is re-embracing the genre and people will be right back on board.

And SyFy know it.

Cannot believe it!!! Get Killjoys is cheaper to make but really!!! Come on SyFy get your **** together. Another good show down the pan.
