Dark Souls 2 - Thread

Not sure. The guy that made DSFIX1 gave it the thumbs up but he must be unhappy with some aspects to be making a second one.

Apparently the in game ambient occlusion is crap so it is better to force HBAO if Nvidia, dunno about AMD.
In game AA is supposed to be FXAA3 which again is supposed to be carp so they recommend down sampling or using SSGA forced through nvidia inspector, again not sure about AMD.
Lastly it is supposed to look a little washed out so some people have been recommending sweetfx, theres a custom profile floating about. Beware though, in dark areas you will have to use a torch if using the profile.

Does it need it?

Well, it's always nice to have I suppose. Would be nice to be able to turn up the internal rendering resolution up to high values, as well as a bunch of other features, such as number count of particle effects and different AA methods. (Hopefully editing these values is all possible within the game's engine). He made a post on PC Gamer about using SweetFX injector to darken the look of the game to make torches a more valuable and useful item. But it would overall be a negative experience (from a game play perspective) as you are just making it harder for yourself, and since people are able to invade whether you are hollow or not, it would be easier for them to spot you amongst the brighter environments, and eventually kill you. It does look better with Sweet FX though.

did skyrim need mods?

I stand corrected! Suppose you can never have enough mods really.

Actually, I'd like the PS controller icon overlays is DS2, I use a PS4 pad and having those icons on Dark Souls was nice, so I would like that.

The good thing is we don't have to wait for dsfix to be released, its definitely playable out the box. The 60FPS and Faster loads time are the only things I really want, and they are there so I am happy!

I get the negative criticism about the hub, fast travels. ..etc.. you can still walk everywhere but the map now is massive, it would be unviable for many and is going to be aimed at a much wider audience than ever before.

Overall it's a good thing

Got my key from simplycdkeys, the key registers as just Dark Souls 2 but I ordered the black armour edition. Looking at the steam page it looks like the black armour edition is the standard version if you buy it before release. Anyone the wiser for what version we're getting ?

aimed at a much wider audience than ever before.

Dark Souls 2 isn't aimed at a wider audience, it's aimed at the exact same audience as DS1, the only difference is the potential size of that particular audience now that the series is far more recognised and available to more people.

That may sounds kinda confusing, basically the people who DS2 is aimed at are the same people who played DS1, had it been available to them or had they known it existed at launch.

Pretty hyped to try this over the weekend now, even bought a controller for my PC, something I never thought I would do :)

I couldn't imagine playing this game with M+K, that would be awful!

Although I've played Demon Souls and Dark Souls on PS3 and PS4 pads, and I tried it with a 360 controller once and it didn't work for me. Mainly cos I use the light attack most, and that is mapped to the RB/LB buttons on the 360 controller, and they aren't as comfortable as the triggers.

Besides, I use a Dual Shock 4 now on PC as its the best controller available IMO.
