Dark Souls 2 - Thread

I agree. The whole Iron King DLC put me off the entire game tbh. The bosses were super hard for me, great I can live with that the Souls games are supposed to be hard. But running gauntlets each time to face the boss again was just too much and felt like it was just there to annoy the hell out of you.

Never even tried the 3rd DLC.
The run to the Blue Smelter Demon was the worst, but I also didn't realize that it was designed to be done co-op. One of the most difficult runs to any boss ever and the boss itself was no joke. But I did it. Solo. No shield.

As far as running gauntlets to get to a boss, that was the norm with Demons Souls and Dark Souls 1. FROM were actually quite generous with DS2 and Bloodborne, often having an easy run to the boss from a bonfire/lamp(Fume Knight was literally a 15 second run from bonfire to boss). That made it a bit more 'shocking' in certain parts where they didn't do this.

I actually really enjoyed the Iron King DLC as a whole but its just that run to Alonne I can't stand. At least getting back to the boss in Demon's was fun and highlighted your progress as a player. Getting back to Alonne was just tedious as it wasn't really difficult just time consuming.

Fume knight is also one of my favourite Bosses from the entire series. Definitely up there with the likes of Artorias, Flame Lurker and Allant.

I never got round to playing the Ivory King dlc. I really must go through the game again.

I have a play through of Scholar just after beating the Old Iron King. Not sure I could just pick it up again from there tbh. You need to devote serious time to a DS playthrough I'm.

It didn't help that it was just a reskin of an original boss. The designs of bosses are one of the best things about these games and that just felt real lazy. I guess it is an optional boss though, so I could just skip it entirely. But after beating all the other bosses I felt I needed to.

I picked this up ages ago, but thought I'd finally get round to playing it, what with no.3 being released.
I played a little of Dark Souls 1, got lost, got killed a lot and finally quit.

I did make a vid of me playing no.2 but due to my rather crass language, I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to link it.

I'm trying to avoid using a guide, but I have a few questions.

Am I even going the right way? I came to some kind of hub area, little village with some demonic piglets that killed me. I took a path and I encountered this thing which I assume is some sort of Troll walking in a steam, he's killed me a few times, right now I've decided to live and let live and just avoid him.

In the 1st game, I'm sure if you timed the shield bash properly you could stun and enemy and then pretty much 1 hit kill them. While I'm able to stun them, any attacks don't seem to do significant damage, am I doing something wrong or?

Almost finished the ivory king DLC on a new game i started last week. Gone for a dex str build with decent amount of hp and katana + shield.

Fun DLC, though i am struggling with the ivory king. I got all of the knights to help me and can summon one NPC but i cant find the sign for Lucatiel of Mirrah summon sign. I found his kitty pretty easy but he seems to just wreck me. The npc and knight i take with me die before the boss to the burnt loyce knights.

The DLC is worth it just for the bone fist. What a fun weapon! Low base damage but quick with great dex scaling and an insane heavy attack. Also the power stance special shoot a haduken out at the enemy!

Back at this again, this time following a guide. :p

I have a ton of soul items, but have no idea on what to points to invest in this early in the game.

Several hours into my first playthrough of this. Playing as a sorcerer because I just generally gravitate towards magic users in RPGs. It seems a bit more challenging than the first DS in some ways because it feels harder to spec into being competent enough with a magic sword and shield whilst still using spells.

I've left STR and DEX at base at the moment, and just pumped INT, FTH and ATN. Whilst spells are now definitely powerful enough to be viable, I'm still running out of casts before clearing areas, though. If it wasn't for the fact that enemies stop spawning after something like 12 or 15 deaths this time I'd never make it anywhere!

Still, although this slows my progress a lot, it does net me a lot of souls. Just faced the boss downstairs in Heide's Tower (he walloped me straight off his platform in a single home run style smash!) and level 58 with a few thousand souls in the bank.

Hoping I get to pick up some more spells/miracles soon...

Whoah, just finally beat Sinh from the Sunken King DLC. Took around 10 tries and even then I only managed it with both NPC phantoms summoned, just, with 2 estus left. This guy gave me the most trouble than any enemy in any game since Manus in the first Souls DLC. Thrilling fight, really got my heart pumping as his health whittled down. About 10 times I'd got him to the exact same point - around 20% health - and then a combination of toxic build-up and missing the roll on his aerial breath attack or his landing attack would do for me. Feel bad I didn't solo him, but that will have to wait for another day.

Fantastic game. Just amazing. Missed Souls so much. Can't believe I left it so long before playing this one.

Glad you are enjoying it mate! At the time i put a lot of time into this one, got the 100% achievements etc, though not as good as souls 1, i do think i enjoyed it more than 3!

Yeah, doesn't have anything like the wow factor of DS1, but still damn good and easily one of the best games I've played since DS1. Interested as to how DS3 stacks up as I'm feeling quite keen to move on to that one once I've done with the DLC on 2.

On that note... **** Brume tower is harsh! Ambushes by those hard-hitting axe and halberd dudes, those bloody sorcerers and their lightning orbs and teleporting, and dealing with those iron monstrosities at the same time... some rooms are just brutal with the combinations of these enemies!

Yeah, it lacks a lot in terms of inventiveness compared to the original. I seem to be fighting an awful lot of big silver knights with similar movesets...

Still, there are some really good areas and some epic fights.

Like the Fume Knight, who is currently dishing out regular stompings to my undead avatar in the most mercilessly efficient manner imaginable. Looks like this is my Manus of this installment. Best I've done is get him down to around 40% health. Not even getting close. I can't handle the range and sweep on his attacks and the variations in his moveset. He's a tough cookie.

Just cleared Lost Sinner with a bonfire ascetic to try out the Chaos Blade on my hexer. Was a tough fight with the two pyromancers who drop in. Many attempts later it's now imbued with Dark, and with the added dark weapon buff spell does some great damage. Great weapon! (even if it has a easymode rep) :D

Yes! Fume Knight fell last night. He took the record for my largest number of deaths in a Souls game from Manus, but finally he died.

Switching to rapier +10, Flynn's ring, ROB+1, Old Leo and with aromatic ooze buffing the weapon helped, and meant I could brute dps him to death.

I had no trouble with most of the bosses generally considered the tougher ones - Aava, gank squad, Rotten, Elana, all went down on my first, second or third (in the case of the gankers) attempt, but Fumey was such a damn sticking point. In fact I don't think there was another single boss that took more that three tries, but this guy... sheesh!

Only the very end of Ivory King left now. This has been a great game.

Burnt Ivory King down now too. That was an annoying fight. Not really difficult since he's so easy to dodge, but such a drawn-out process to get him to spawn, and then a couple of goes to learn his patterns (first time he buffed his sword I was completely thrown)... but whatever. That's NG done. Just got to Majula in NG+ but doubt I'll carry on (I don't think any game ever has motivated me to play through NG+ or beyond). Great game, though. Not as mind-blowing or as well designed as DS1, but still really loved it.
