Dark Souls gameplay discussion - spoilers ahoy!

Yeah for the Hydra I just went left as his water cannon thing was easier to avoid that way. Once you get in close he is as easy as the zombie enemies from the start of the game. Just stand with your shield up and he lunges. You block it barely losing any stamina and just hack away. 3 R2 hits per head for me.
Just be careful of the fall if you get too close to him...keep an eye on the water for the hard to see edge. I fell off it twice!

Ok I eventually got the Drake sword (took less arrows than I thought), I also got the Metal Boar in the first go and got the very cool Boar helmet. Took out the Dark knight (took me 6 goes) and I even took out the Tower knight in my first go. :D

From going nowhere, to having a brilliant game last night. :)

The sense of acheivement in this game is amazing, you just dont get this from other games, loving it.

Anyone got any advice about the Bell Gargoyle, than mutha is hard as nails?? :(

Cut of his tail, get an axe :)

i picked up the guide last night, havent had a propper look at it yet but for the time i intend on spending on the game £15 for a hardback guide seemed a great price.

reason i didnt have time was i finally beat the great wolf sif, once i realised what i was doing wrong it wasnt too hard and then i finished him with some magic... a very well earned 30k souls.

while i was in the area i jointed the covenent so i keep my ring attached and keep invading randoms which is great fun... pity some of them kick my ass with magic.

i think ill be using the guide tonight to get myself a new sword/axe sorted as im lvl 47 i must be able to do better then the drake sword +1 by now

Man, Ornstein and Smough in Anor Londo were hard work. Took me 10 goes, 10 humanity and I finally have in and called in a summon as I couldn't beat them on my own.

First summon came in but got killed early in the fight then I died despite nearly killing them.
While the 2nd summon and I were killing the mobs outside the boss arena a black phantom decided to pop in and 1 shot backstab me. Lol.
Third summon ended up being the said black phantom and between us we killed the boss.

By the far the biggest challenge so far and glad that's over.

I have had a productive morning on it today. Decided to get the Drake sword after having little joy from the Gargoyles. Nabbed that, beat the gargoyles, battered Havel, smashed the Capra out of the Capra. Wandered into the depths, confused the butcher for an NPC got a cleaver in the spine.

I tend to use my Estoc +4 when I'm taking on tougher standard enemies in gentlemanly duels. I find its brilliant when fighting in tight corridors.

Well decided to go kill Havel and Capra lastnight.
Havel was a royal pain untill I realised that he is best taken on butt naked, lol.
Capra was prettty easy once I dispached his two dogs.

So after that I was feeling pretty good with my self and went down and had a poke in the dephs.
Killed the Buchers, rescued the pyromancer and killed the giant rat.
Fantastic, awsome, and then I managed to fall through a hole in the floor and get cursed.

SON OF A ****

So great night of progess then ended by losing almost 10k souls

Sometimes the bad things that happen in this game to you are what I love.

At the weekend i'd tried 7 or 8 times to get through Blighttown to the bonfire in the swamp and died. Finally I got quite far and a Black Phantom invaded me.
I could see him chasing me so I just soul arrowed him climbing up a ladder but it didn't hurt him that much. At that point, I just knew I was doomed. And i'd just got right down to the swamp too.

I stood off against him and got slaughtered in 2 hits. I raged...a lot...but i love it really. lol

How sucessful have you all been with summoning/being summoned? I havent had it work once. Never been invaded, never been able to invade yet I can see the "ghosts" of people playing the game at the same time as me. Also ringing the bells, which hearing it ring out when another player does it might be the coolest thing I've ever seen/heard in a video game.

where did most of you head after quelaag? Places i can go (that i havent cleared) are londo ruins, catacombs, demons ruins, valley of the drakes, sens fortress as far as i can remember. The only boss i havent killed yet is SIF in the areas ive cleared (i assume he is near the other wolves up the ladder past the hydra?

If you get invaded and you dont particularly want to fight them just banish them using the black eye stone.

I would only use it if i thought the other person had exploited/cheated. If you check the book of the guilty a heckuva lot of ppl run around with 99 humanity? seems pretty amazing to me....

Well after beating Quelag i went back and got the Laito katana which is nice. then upgraded it to +5 and then +3 as divine weapon (had to farm the depths a bit for that) so it does comparable damage to the drake sword now. Was just bored with the drake sword.

After Quelaag I hit Sens Fortress then Anor Londo.

Now I've done these I'm going to hit the Catacombs to get a fire weapon then clear out a lot of what I've missed.

I've made sure I have a divine weapon for the catacombs :)

I just killed Quelaag. Am I right in believing that I have to back track all the up to the top of Blight Town and through the Depths to get out? :(

Had two invaders tonight, one when I was solo, I managed to kill them pretty easily, and another when I was in co op with another guy.

If you want a decent shield kill the undead drake in Valley of the Drakes. He's impossible to die on from range with a few bombs/arrows/magic.

Elsewise grab a divine weapon and kill Pinwheel in catacombs. Gives you the ability to buff fires to +20 which you wont regret in Anor Londo boss fight. (Which you head to straight after sens and cant come back till done!)

Overall found Ormstein and Smough the hardest fight in the game. Many deaths, much swearing and some coop help in the end. Not sure if it was just that it clicked after that but even the 4 Lord fights + Final boss didnt challenge me as much.

The wheel contraption on the swamp floor will take you up and after a few ladder climbs, you will exit in the valley of the drakes. The gate here will lead to londo ruins below the firelink shrine if you have the key (i forget where it is found) or the masterkey.

Took me about 7 tries. If you can take out the little guy quickly then the big guy isn't too difficult if you are patient.

The only annoying part when fighting bosses is the distance they are from bonfires. I wish the it would save just before the fight, having to run all the way back is tedious.

I did exactly the same tonight and got cursed too. Had to spend 6k souls to purge the curse

Still enjoying the game though :D
