Dark Souls gameplay discussion - spoilers ahoy!

Damn I killed the gaping dragon and forgot to cut his tail off :(

I need to replace my drake sword, any recommendations? I have loads of tritanite thingys, some green too but you can farm then from the slimes. I read about upgraing the zweihander (sp), but I just don't understand upgrading at all. +5, +10, and then raw and fire and stuff! So confusing!

From what I understand, the Drake Sword is decent at the start but doesn't scale with any stats, so the damage is capped.

If you take a look at; http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Weapons

and the 5th column, from what I've read, you want the grade for whatever stat you're focussing on, be it (Str/Dex/Int/Fth) to be A, B or C for that weapon to do decent damage.

I had a go at the gaping dragon and didn't realise there was a channeller high up shooting down. I probably took about 15% of his health off, but I was solely attacking his tail, which isn't easy when he likes to wip it about. I died and lost 11 humanities. And then died again shortly after I killed the channeller, the rats were still enraged.

so strange i had no channeler that i saw, i literally followed the boss round and hacked at his hind leg when he stopped, running away before he jumps up. Granted i didnt get the tail weapon but i didnt get hit once really odd boss

Okay; need some advice on the Bridge/Hellkite Wyvern/dragon.

I have the guide and it states that he has 2208HP, when you get his tail that knocks off 200HP, so after that is has 2008HP. So I was sniping him from under the bridge and hitting him with standard arrows for 20 a shot and was getting 2 in there before he would take off and do his thing before landing again so I could slot him. Rinse repeat.

Fine - the cowardly but sensible way out. I figured that with his HP I would get him in just over 100 arrows (simple maths). Well over 200 arrows and 45 minutes later his health bar had not shifted at all!

I read in the guide that the recovers HP when he is perched on the church and so it must be that any damage I am doing is wiped as fast as I am doing it.

The guide on this is not helpful and tells me to snipe. I really want him out of the way so guys; any tips or tactics? How did you dispose of him?

I beat the Gaping Dragon last night, took me 5 goes. The first 4 I was trying to do it too quickly, jumping in and going for the kill, but the 5th attempt I took my time, going in for a few quick hits on his tail, then getting out of the way. With his tail off the fight became easy, as he couldn't whip me with it so I could get another cheeky hit in. He barely touched me in the end, and was probably the 2nd easiest boss fight I've had (easiest being the Capra Demon). Looking forward to attacking Blighttown tonight.

I must be totally carp at this game. As soon as I go into area with the Capra demon I just get wiped.

The area is so small I just cannot get away. I like this game but I am starting to think that maybe it is just not for me.

Yes he does indeed recover HP and at that damage you would never kill him.

I was only doing about 13 and after an hour I gave up trying. However, there is a 'trick' if you wish to exploit it.

You know where the Black Knight is up i nthe tower at the vert start of Undead Parish? Just after climbing the ladder beyond the 3 rats.
Well, if you go up there then you get a clear view of where the Dragon sits from behind him. Only thing is, he isn't usually there. But, i just ran back to the bonfire 2 times and next time as I was climbing the tower stairs I heard the Dragon roaring. This time he was there.

I shot him with an arrow, he flew down and dissapeared. I walked back down thee tower and gaine 10,000 souls.
On getting back to the bridge, I heard the Dargon roar again but it wasn't there.

Bit of a glitch and it's confirmed to work although some claim they must rest at firelink bonfire. I didn't though.

As for my playthrough, i've just been dragged off the that city after the Iron Giant. Think i'm Level 45 but these giant knights are annoying me with their huge shields.
After killing the giant, i left immediately so I hope i didn't miss any items.

Got a bit annoyed as i summoned 2 people to help and one never bothered helping at all...lost my humanity and had to use a ring of sacrifice to get my humanity back, die then still have it.
Tried again and we killed it in about 10 seconds with magic.

I still can't do the valley of drakes...those drakes just slaughter me and it takes me ages to kill them...such a tight place too.

That fight is pretty easy if you can survive the first five seconds and make it to the stairs. Try charging him and rolling out of the way of his attack. Once you get to the stairs run and hide in the far corner and most of his attacks will miss and you can use ranged attacks or jump on his head instead. Hardest boss I've faced so far though so don't feel too bad. :)

edit: wear light armour too

Ihave tried that soo many times. I walk up the tower and while doing so. hear him roar, however I get there and he is not. I must have tried about 10 times now. I will try resting at the firelink and see what happens.

That's the key point I think, he's healing faster than you can do damage, so you'll need to return with a more powerful bow/arrow combination, or when you've upgraded your DEX enough to do more damage with each arrow than he can heal.

Ah well, I may have jsut got lucky with it.

But yes I did read people confirming that Firelink bonfire did it. Best to check online in case there was anything else you had to do. There really isn't anything gained from getting ihm out of the way anyway though. So no harm in just waiting until later.

For the Capra Demon, make sure you have a shield that can block 100% of physical damage. Get rid of the 2 dogs right away, then you can simply block the Capra Demon's attacks and hit him at your leisure. When I fought him he didn't do any attacks that couldn't be blocked :)

Edit: Just read that he does a 2 handed attack that shouldn't be blocked, so I guess just roll backwards out of the way of that one, then counter him :)

Okay will give it a go tonight. I did actually get to the back of room with the stairs once and managed to take out the two dogs when I was there. However the Capras hits did reach me a took me out while I was trying to heal.

Also just took out the Moonlight Butterfly thing on my lunch break. Was easy once he landed - only to three sessions of twacking him to finish it.

If you sprint from the entrance up to the top of the stairs you can then go to the right and stand on the small archway which extends slightly out of the wall.

It should be easy to take the dogs out and the Capra demon can't walk onto the small ledge however he will walk half way up the stairs and do a jump attack across to you which can be blocked with a decent shield. He will then stay below you for a bit attempting to attack then walk back up the stairs and jump attack again. You can either jump down on his head when he is below you or just use magic / ranged.

It's quite easy to fall off the ledge, just roll away and sprint back to the stairs if you do.

Killed Havel after the fourth attempt tonight! Afterwards I thought to myself, why was that so bloody hard. I have been grinding the depths to buff up for the fight with the gaping dragon. Bought the chest armour from the merchant and the crystal shield too, but I didn't realise till after that the crystal items can't be repaired. I'm sure it'll last a while though.

Had an explore, went through some of Darkroot Garden and managed to kill a few knights, I also managed to loot the Elite Knight Armour. In Darkroot Basin I attempted to kill the Hydra, but I died before I got close enough, so I'll go back to it later.

The hydra is much easier if you get the ring from the undead asylum. It allows you to run through the water and swamps in blighttown at full speed.
