Dark Souls gameplay discussion - spoilers ahoy!

If farming souls in there, stay undead as you don't get invaded.

i was way too negative. darkroot multiplayer is a great place to get souls. Its sooo busy that you get summoned every 10 seconds and a lot of the time you turn up at the end of a battle....just got 200,000 souls because of it :D

you just have to be happy about dying a bucketload of times but hey you dont lose diddly squat anyway! hahaha

i did accidentally kill one of my darkspirit allies though lol

Just read that some DLC may be in the works:

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/exclusive-dark-souls-dlc-exists-coming-soon/

source close to the project has told EGM that some form of expanded content is in the process of being finished up for Dark Souls, and will be released as DLC at some point in the first quarter of this year.

While we were unable to get further details on what this new DLC will feature, late last year it was discovered that From Software had filed for an interesting trademark in Japan. That trademark was for “Yami no Mori”—which could be translated as “Forest of Darkness” or “Dark Forest”.

Oh I hope this is true, I've been itching to return.

one problem with mp is everyone looks the same most people have no style. They are usually wearing havels gear with his hammer or they have some stupid big axe with lightning on it. Only seen one guy who was dual wielding rapiers or smt - he was a good fighter.

That was me. Havel's armour and a Gravelord sword! :p

Its arguably the best armour in the game for close combat, but saying that I don't recall fighting anyone else who was wearing it.

Thinking about picking this up on my ps3! I loved demon souls but didnt finish it as i stopped playing and couldnt remember how to play properly! Whats this one like compared? Is it quite addictive? May get the hardback guide too! Are there still people playing to do the co-op things like demons souls for boss fights etc?

Kinger:

Dark Souls is the best game I've played this generation, I cant get into Skyrim as much as I should for the simple reason it's not Dark Souls! It still has all the brilliant unique multiplayer aspects such as summoning for boss fights both humans and NPC's but you have to meet up to the criteria to summon.

Also the guide has been nerfed by the latest patch, it has made too many changes to the game which in my opinion has made it a bit more accessible. The real joy is the discussion the game creates where talking to people about what they did is more satisfying than any guide.

Cool seems like were in the same boat, im not seeing whats so great about skyrim as it feels too much like most other games like that where i foud demon souls to be totally unique! I will order this now :)

Ok so may skip the guide and see how i get on without it then :D i didnt have one for demon souls tbh

Skyrim is a very good game, I'm enjoying it a lot, but Dark Souls is on a whole other level. By far my game of the year last year. Played through it 3 times as it was so addictive. I sold it because I was playing too much of it and wanted to play other games. :D

Bear in mind I was playing it on Xbox so I don't know what its like on PS3, but it looks decent to excellent on Xbox. The only issue is Blighttown, the frame rate there is shocking but again i'm not sure if this is even an issue on PS3.

Fair enough mate thanks! Im sure theres not much between them! Is it more open world than demon souls? I remember that was just a hub with the seperate dungeons there

Yeah Dark Souls is one of the greatest games there is... and I thought Demon's Souls wouldn't be beat. I love Skyrim, but as EezerGoode says, it's not Dark Souls so I just keep comparing.

Dark Souls is quite different to Demon's Souls in a few ways though, you will need to learn a few new things in it so don't expect to get straight back in as if it is the same as Demon's Souls. But don't worry, it don't differ too much to make it feel like a different game, you can still feel Demon's Souls in it.

The Nexus has gone by the way, much more open world... and in my opinion, a lot more difficult early on than Demon's Souls ever was for me.

Sounds great, glad to hear its more open world that Demon souls as i think that was it only draw back for me personally! Ive pretty much forgot how i played demon souls so will treat this like a different game from the start!

Any suggestion on classses? I had a knight on the last game i think, sword and shield etc

I'm on my third playthrough now, I went for a Knight the last time round, but prob wouldn't recommend that for a first timer as he is slow until you get a high enough SL to up his stamina to allow for faster movement on heavier armour.

I went for the Wanderer class first time round (as I did with Demon's Souls also) and I think that is a good starting class.

But as with Demon's Souls, the class is only different for the start of the game, aa you can turn any class in to anything as you progress.

Framerate in Blighttown on PS3 is nightmarish as well even after they apparently fixed it in the patch (1.05) Went in again (after i cleared it) to buy stuff from the forest covenant merchant. Still it wasnt too painful as just a quick in and out.

Today i will be storming Sen's Fortress :D

& after that (or before) will be taking on Sif and the Stray Demon again...

after that take out Ceaseless then mebbe Tomb of the Giants (already done catacombs)

Got an alternate to my divine iato now. +4 demon spear thing (bought from forest merchant) has v good range and in ONLINE MP RANGE is King :p

Yeah Blighttown was a shocker with it's framerate. Fortunately, on playthrough 2 and higher the only real reason to do Blighttown is to get to Quelaag... so you can take the shortcut through Valley of Drakes.

On playthrough 1 you should go through Blighttown via The Depths to collect its goodies, cos there are a few.
