Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Er... so I accidentally hit a merchant because of my fat fingers. She is now less than happy with me. Is there anything I can do to get her back on good terms? I heard getting my sins absolved does this but the cost of doing so vastly more souls than I have ever had in the game until now (something like 36k - the most I have ever saved is about 10k).

If that isnt an option can anybody advise how important the merchant who hides in the tunnel is? I had heard extremely important but I am reluctant to start the game again as I've been playing quite a long time.

You dont need her. Mainly for poisons if i remember right. but you can farm moss from the garden.

Fantastic. Thank god for that.

I did manage to get myself cursed by some of those things in the sewers straight afterward but it wasn't the end of the world.

Another question if I may...

I've made it this far in the game (I'm guessing about 1/3rd of the way through) without ever bothering making myself human, kindling a bonfire (or whatever its called when you improve a bonfire) or summoning another player. Am I missing something or is this really not necessary during the earlier parts of the game?

I guess it could be because I got myself the Drake Sword which has made things quite a bit easier.

Being human is only really needed for summoning and invading.Personally, I usually like to be in human form, as I like occasionally being invaded(NPC or PVP) or invading myself. Also I found a few bosses very difficult without summoning someone(I really need Solaire for Ornstein and Smough, though I did do it once on my own). Invasions are not just PVP too, there are many black phantom NPC invasions in the game, which get you decent gear, and humanity/souls, so I like to get most of them

I think the woman in the tunnel might sell transient curses actually, which you need for New Londo Ruins?...would have to check though.

The Drake Sword does make the game far too easy at the start:p

PS. If you are cursed, the guy in the Bell Tower sells things to remove it.

Careful with the drake sword. It makes the game a little too easy and it soon becomes useless and you will find your self needing to upgrade something which you have not used before.

I don't know, as I still have yet to complete the game haha. But I wouldn't say a 1/3rd. Maybe 20% of the way through?

Check the 3D map out to get a true scale of the game.

Download and install it. The game is HUGEEEE!!! At least I think it is anyway.

Double handed strength weapon.

Did you kill the black knight in the undead burg? If not, kill him. He might drop one.

I'm not good at this game at all, so don't take my advice as solid advice. I'm just echoing advice I have received. I swore blindly against the drake sword. But it does become pretty weak. Plus, it's fun experimenting with other weapons :)

I guess if you are very new to the game as well, the Drake sword gives you that safety net but yea, I was told it's best to ditch it as you learn the fighting mechanics much quicker.

If you are a tank, the Claymore might be a good bet, if you have incresed your strength? It is on a body underneath the dragon as you approach the Undead Parish. Have you kindled the bonfire there yet?

What stats are you focussing on?

I would probably get the Claymore, upgrade it to +5 by farming Titanite shards from the Baldur Knights(or buying them if you have that many souls) and that will do you for a while!

Sorry I wasn't terribly clear when I said I was a tank. I'm a knight who has almost exclusively levelled the attributes for health and endurance so far (based on what I've read in this thread). My fighting skills are pretty modest due in part to my low mobility so I tend to rely on blocking and being patient when defeating enemies rather than rolling and backstabs. If I didn't have my shield I'd be totally lost. I guess that rules me out of the claymore (at least if the claymore in this game is a 2 handed weapon like the one in real life?).

One thing I've really been struggling with is what to do with my souls. Early on I've been chucking them all into levelling but now I'm starting to think about upgrading weapons/armour which I haven't really touched so far. Are there any consequences to over levelling yourself?

No consequences if you aren't playing in human form really. I suppose if you over-level a few bossees might be slightly easier, but not much I would have thought. Tbh, you don't need many souls for upgrading weapons/armour. You should ideally work on one offensive stat along-side end and vit, either Dex, Str or Int(for magic). You must have levelled up str a bit to use the Drake Sword didn't you?

Pick a weapon that has a moveset that you like, then start increasing the level of whichever stat it scales with

PS. Claymore is one-handed(all swords are, if you have enough strength)

Well, I love the Uchigatana, it is by far my favourite weapon in both Demon's and Dark Souls;), but your favourite weapon really depends on what moveset you prefer. A plan might be to get the Claymore and the Uchi, then see which weapons moves you prefer, and then start upgrading and levelling to suit it.

I think the Claymore scales well with both Str and Dex, whilst the Uchi scales with just Dex, so strength is useless for it. With your Strength already boosted a bit, it might be the better option. Also, in order to get the Uchi at this point, it would mean killing another merchant....and you are fast running out:p

I actually started a new game about 2 weeks ago, and absolutely breezed through it apart from a really weird time in the Depths where I kept getting cursed(despite never having been before...just got too cocky!) and took a few attempts on Gaping Dragon, despite finding it the easiest boss in the game previously. Anyway, I was totally fine until I got to Duke's Archive, where those Crystal guys were totally owning me!...easy to underestimate them.

I was also playing a lot of PVP and being summoned for bosses. Really enjoyed it

Well I've made it to Blight Town. What a fun place. Particularly loving the poisoned swamp!

Can anybody explain the weapon levelling mechanic for me a little further. I've been trying to level Uchigatana but eventually got to the stage where it has become 'Raw Uchigatana' and I dont seem to be able to level it any further. Either way I haven't been able to find or level any weapon to come close to the Drake Sword yet.

Are people finding that there are WAY less co-op people about recently.
If I play the PS3 version there are always tons of summon signs for all the bosses.

I am lucky to see even 1 at O&S at the moment.

And I don't think I saw more than 2 for my entire NG+ playthrough with my Mage.
