Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Your...yeah I'm not going to put too much weight into your opinion, especially since you haven't said why.

INB4 it's bad because it doesn't have auto saving.

It is supposed to be hard, but it isn't, it is just unfair.
Even the very first trap, there is *no* way of knowing it is there until after it has spanked you.

Your not kidding it sold over 4m on PC alone ;)

I think most who say they will not buy will buy anyway either @ full price or in a digital sale. Its not like From Software have the required time/money to make this perfect anyway that's what these boycotters need to understand it was either this way or no-way as they are delaying how much money they can make from the console DLC by only working on the PC port right now & taking a chance that PC gamers will buy in numbers (I'm sure they will I mean this is the only game of its type GW2 is not even a direct competitor if anything they should move GW2 back a few weeks to avoid a clash).

Dark Souls is a DX9 only port which will offer the best possible game play experience on even mid-range PC's & be highly superior to the console versions due to better hardware, higher resolutions, no screen tearing & faster loading times. If you look at the history of the PhyreEngine engine the 2 Codemasters racing games worked pretty well on PC ;)

It's available on Steam as well. The implication that the developers have been giving lately is that the Steam version won't have GFWL in it unlike other games (such as Dirt 3).
Its still using GFWL on all versions they are just selling on Steam (that was Namco's response to the petition to remove GFWL) but GFWL is a key part of the game to allow the co-op/matchmaking via the same servers as the X360 versions so thats why they used GFWL otherwise it would take them a lot of time/money to implement another solution & that was never going to happen as it was never designed for release on PC.

Its all a fuss over nothing anyway Batman Arkham City sold over 1m on PC despite there being a similar outcry from some I should imagine Namco would be very happy with 25% of that ;) (Nov 2011 WB Games said they had sold 4.6m units then in Jan 2012 WB games said it was 5.6m & the PC release was the only major difference between the 2 dates as console games do not sell strongly after the first few weeks. Its probably much higher now with all the digital sales).

At least its not using a Diablo3/Ubisoft always connected SP DRM as GFWL always works offline if your net access goes after an initial activation you can still carry on regardless & it even saves to the GFWL online profile as that can always work in offline mode & when you reconnect to the GFWL servers it can update achvs earned.

but surely the extra power of a modern pc should fix this to an extent by default? it might just drop from 60-40 fps (so if caped at 30 will stay at 30) instead of 30-10 for instance.

The issue is that most Japanese devs are absolutely clueless when it comes to the PC, and these guys are no exception (From Software, it is their 3rd PC title). They've admitted as much, so I can't expect this port will light the world on fire, but it will do the job. Hopefully.

Yeah their market for major PC games isn't huge so that is a legitimate reason for lack of experience.

The way the Japanese gaming market developed is very different to a lot of Asia too. The likes of South Korea and China, Malaysia etc have pretty big PC markets, whereas Japan centres on the console side of things.

But having that sense of dieing at any point in the game is what gives this game its edge. Most games today hold you're hand and don't offer any challenge at all. I cant remember the last time i played a game, other than Demon Souls, that felt like i actually achieved something by beating it. More devs need to make games that punish you like this in my opinion.

MMO's or F2P games are quite popular in Japan though, but that is really as far as their PC market gets. And at least their Internet goes well with them.

And yeah when they are the country that produces the majority of consoles, it really changes a lot of things.

Hannah Montana on the Wii might work for you. :p

Great counter argument. Totally relevent.

I like difficult games. But this one is like punching Stephen Hawking and claiming to be a great boxer.

Punching Stephen Hawking and claiming to be a great boxer? So your saying Dark Souls is in no way difficult and beating it is no great feat? Well I agree, but I think your actual point was to try and insult the games difficulty in a 'its not even hard its just stupid' kind of way? I'm pretty confused here, people say the exact same thing about Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter etc.

Dark Souls is in no way shape or form anywhere near as difficult as those three though, but it's an accurate comparison. There's nothing wrong with how Dark Souls was made, nothing is a guaranteed death, if you die it is your fault. Whether the reaction time to dodge a lethal trap is 0.5 seconds or whether a boss can just plain one shot you despite having a million HP, that is down to you to beat those odds, and if you don't then its your fault, not the game's. Insulting the game and claiming it to be cheap or whatever is pretty dull mate.

That is in no way shape or form an insult against you, some people are just built for different things, and its the same with video games. Person A might be amazing at intelligence and strategy based games like Civ, Total War etc. whereas Person B might be amazing at little thinking, fast reaction games like Call of Duty, Unreal, Gears of War etc. while Person C is amazing at high intelligence, high reaction god-tier games like King of Fighters, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Counter-Strike, ArmA II etc.

Dark Souls falls within the latter, it doesn't take a genius to do great at it, but it does take some thinking, with quite a lot of applied skill and decent reaction time, so it'd fall in C imo, just not as high up as the others.

The only problem is that From Software (the developers) have admitted they are useless at PC and have no idea how to port

To be honest, whilst this game isn't really my cup of tea, a developer coming out with this would put the fear of god up me and pretty much put me off buying it at launch. :/

Locked at 30fps whaaat hahaha. Why listen to the community and make the pc port if you're not going to bother optimizing it or solving any of the niggling issues, it's not THAT much more work surely.

Indeed. Thanks to that boycott they will never be taken seriously ever again.

How is this going to end well anyway? If the devs can't be bothered to put in any effort to fix issues with the console version and to adapt and optimise it for the pc, why would customers be bothered to pay for it?
