Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Another tip, do not worry about losing your soul stash. There is a very, very easy place to grind up souls in the Painted World. Once you get access to that area all your soul worries are over and you can spend more time enjoying the game not worrying about trying to hang on to your souls, though admittedly, you can't get lost humanity back easily this way, not that that really matters either.

I used to farm the forest, but now that has been patched, I just spend 30 minutes to a hour bumping my level up by doing the undead burg bridge bug, which is tricking the dragon into coming, killing the npc's, you get the souls, sprint down, rest at the bonfire under the bridge, rinse and repeat. Not many souls, but nets you a few levels quickly.

Has it been recently patched then? I only finished the game a month ago it it worked ok then, i.e. the dumb AI leaping to their deaths. Anyway, once you start the painted world area even the forest glitch is pitiful compared to what you can farm there, though you do need a high pyromancy level and the fire storm spell. So grind other ways to get them first.

Just (finally) picked this up, missed the Steam sales earlier this year (or last year), but found it in the purple game shop for a steal. Having the artbook etc as physical content rather than digital is nice too, sometimes I miss that with buying games on Steam.

Just need to complete The Witcher 2, then I can allow myself to move onto this and completely obliterate any free time I have :D

To those that played it blind the first time through, did *any* of you discover the requirements to ensure you got to have a certain person with you in the final encounter? And by that I mean just playing the game without referring to a guide at any point.

Done all the above bar Queelag previously, and farmed before her, so thats no problem then, will do that :)

But what about the other areas?
After that it's....

Sen's Fortress -> Kill the Iron Golem -> Anor Londo -> Kill Ornstein and Smough (good luck) -> Obtain Lord Vessel -> Kill the next 4 bosses in any order you like -> Defeat Gwyn and finish the game

There are numerous ways to go after defeating OnS and getting the Lord Vessel, but you basically need to defeat 4 different bosses to obtain the souls needed to fill the Lord Vessel. The order really is up to you, though some are easier than others IMHO.

And like Bubo, the Darkroot Forest farming area still works perfectly fine. 7000 souls in around 2 minutes is good with me, though I quite like farming the mini-drakes in The Valley of the Drakes, as I can get 6000 souls in just under 2 minutes, plus the opportunity for Dragon Scales (always useful!).

Heh, I've finished the game 4 times and still never had him with me in the final encounter. I got pretty close my first time through, and I could do it easily in my current playthrough as I've already fulfilled the main requirement, but as I'm doing everything solo (and in one hit) having anyone else with me would ruin my challenge.

With the necessary pyromancy and fire storm spell you can farm approx 12000 souls in about 30 seconds. More when you get the two soul increasing items (ring and headgear). With those on it was nearer 14000 souls per run.

Also, the forest defenders will not chase you if you are currently in the forest covenant, which may explain they the glitch is not working in your game at the mo.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever discovered this plot line without resorting to a guide, as I just can't see it being possible to discover without. Not without like 100 playthroughs where you are deliberately trying new things. It is just so bizarre a requirement.

I think people could discover it by accident rather than knowing what to aim for. Opening up the shortcut and killing the chaos bug is something anyone could do without realising they're key events in the path of that NPC.

Okayyyyy, so, I got the leather armor and just killed the black knight (think thats what he is) covering the stam regen shield. My dexterity is 16 and my strength is 22. Should do for now. Need to get my vit and endurance up. Any idea on how high I should go before worrying about weapon damage? I have the drake sword.

Level 20 I think...

Black knight sword eh? Also, screw Capra demon or what ever he is called. Forgot how annoying that instant ambush is!

Yeah I forgot the exact location, it is just before the stairs where that dude kicks the burning barrel towards you there is a black knight near a ring. It is 50/50 if it drops it though.

It's not even close to 50/50 that it drops, it's a pretty rare drop and definitely not something you should expect to get (just like all Black Knight weapons actually).

Claymore far outclasses the Black Knight Sword, the sheer stat requirements alone take a lot of health and stamina away from you. Go with the Claymore and upgrade it to +10 to keep it going, and then when you reach Anor Londo turn it Lightning.

That way you can save the wasted strength/dexterity points, and get a more damaging sword with a much much better moveset.

What are some essential items I should pick up? I'm making a thief PVP build, so i'm kinda skipping a lot of stuff. Im gonna use a mix of black leather and black iron armour, a +5 lightning bandit knife, buckler shield, pyromancies and a another wep undecided (well that's the build im aiming for :p) It's gonna be a fun build, quick n' fast, but like I said above, im skipping a lot, just done first bell, now second, now to sens, what should I go back and look for the is really useful and basically considered an essential?
