Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

First task, get amazing and parrying and backstab techniques, otherwise you will get stomped.

Your lack of Poise with that build will have to stunlocked if most builds even look at you.

One thing you need to realise is that Dark Souls PvP is INCREDIBLY shallow, there is a chasm of difference between the best builds and everything else. Also most fights come down to who can get backstab off first.

I'd swap out the Black Iron Gauntlets for something lighter, so you retain a fast roll rather than a mid roll. It's only on my current playthrough that I've stuck to a fast roll (often wearing nothing but a smile), and I don't think I could go back to mid-roll now, it just seems too slow.
Oh, haha yeah, didn't mean black iron, meant black leather, that'll put me in fast roll
And nice 1 shot kill again :D
I acctually didn't play the DLC in my first run, I forgot :P I finished the game but it automaticly started NG+ for me, I wanted to go back and do the DLC :(
Ahwell, might do it with this PVP character ,as ive heard there is some pretty good pvp zones and weps

Got owned by Capra twice in a row. Farmed souls via the bridge and dragon, took ages to get 20k, bought the seal. Went to start the farm in the forest... Died, went to go back, but forgot to rest at the fire next to the forest lol. Very annoying.

So will carry on tomorrow, I want to buff up my vit and endurance mostly, not touched them really.

If you kill him with bombs the drop rate seems high, unless it is just me.
It's just you :) Drop rates are fixed, the only thing you can do to increase your chances of getting items is to increase your Item Discovery stat, either by having 10 Humanity, or wearing an item like the Gold Covetus Serpent Ring, or the Symbol of Avarice. Even then, with the maximum of 410 Item Discovery, getting some items is ridiculously difficult. I remember having to kill at least 30 Channellers in Duke's Archives before one of them dropped the Trident for me, which was the last weapon I needed for the achievement for all rare weapons (and my final achievement in the game as well I think).

Urgh, had a major brown pants moment on my challenge play through last night when Big Hat Logan refused to move on from Firelink Shrine, despite placing the Lord Vessel and killing Seath. I thought I'd somehow screwed my game up, and I had plans to use a few of his Crystal based spells for the challenge (and of course, they can only be bought in Duke's Archives). I think it screwed up because I used a shortcut to bypass the first meeting with Seath, so I didn't get locked in the cell. Thankfully, I managed to sort it out by going back to the Archives and opening up the prison where Logan usually ends up, and he finally made his way from Firelink. Thought I'd seriously bodged my game up, and as I'm about 45 hours into this challenge, I really didn't want to have to start again!

Tried installing it last night, but the installer on the discs seem blummin' slow, sat on 'Gathering required information' or whatever for yonks. Eventually cancelled it and it's currently downloading on Steam. Thank god they can activate on there too.

Had a flick through the art book last night before bed, wish I hadn't, proper nightmare material some of those drawings.

Did you get the capra? I not, just kill the dogs first, run of the stairs, take a swig of an estus if needed, and just drop onto him from the stairs. Also, if your having trouble, just summon, no shame in doing so :p
Can you still farm in the forest? Did they fix that bug when you can stand near the entrance and they fall of the side?

I didn't get him, got him previously, remember last time I was like "oh, that was easy". It's just getting the dogs out of the way then getting into that, climb and jump situation then it's all good. Mess it up at the start and you have to do it all over again haha.

I unlocked the door to the forest after farming for a bit, totally forgot the route to run, went straight into it, got killed... Then I ressed at the shrine in the undead burg! Forgot to rest at the shrine outside of the doors. Epic schoolboy moment lol.

So don't know, apparently you can still farm 7k a shot, used to be more though?

Nope, always used to be 7k a run (20k on NG+), though on your very first run you can get over 10k as there are 3 enemies that don't respawn. On a normal run, there is a mage who is worth 2k, a thief worth 2k, a cleric worth 2k, and a warrior worth 1k.

How are the graphics on this game? ... Are they really bad?

I read this is a really poor port? ... Is it worth getting this game?

The graphics are lovely as soon as you install the DsFix mod, which takes around 30 seconds. It unlocks higher rendering resolutions (as the game is initially locked to an internal resolution of 1024*768), and it looks quite lovely. As soon as the mod is installed it's turned from a poor port into an amazing game. Easily in my top 3 games of the past couple of years.

Well, spent enough time on it to get out of the Undead Asylum last night and pottered about those ruins that the raven drops you off at. Not entirely sure if I should have talked to the guy who gave me a place in the White C-something (I'm not entirely sure what it is even, is it just access to certain shops etc?). Also went through to the other side of the flooded shrine area and promptly got my ass handed to me by two skeletons. Went back to get my souls, lured one back to the front of the flooded shrine, let him attack me (ouch), and then just kept wailing on him with a quick attack everytime he got 'knocked' back. Rinse and repeat for the second, and then fell off a ledge, ffffuuu.

Quick questtion, a bit past the guy who offers you a place in his White Clan or whatever, I found a message on the floor in front of two very dark archways, inside a building, what was that? It said something about difficulty level 2, and some text saying I CANT GO or something?

Yeah, the general idea with the game that you'll come to learn quickly is that if you go to an area and get your ass handed to you, it's somewhere to avoid until you're stronger. Leave that area alone for now :)

It's the Way of White, one of the Covenants in the game. Covenants are basically groups that offer slightly different advantages, or access to additional spells/miracles. I can only think of one Covenant off the top of my head that allows access to a vendor you wouldn't normally have access to, and the items he sells are certainly not essential (though they could be very useful depending on your play style). For more info about Covenants, read here - http://darksouls.wikidot.com/covenants

As for the arches past the Cleric, one of them would normally contain a lift as it's a shortcut you open a little later in the game. For now, just walk through one of the arches and drop down a little bit (trust me, you won't die). There's a hidden area with a few useful items for you to collect :)

Really good with the fix.

Cheers for the info! I was desperately trying to think of the word Covenant, just couldn't remember what he had said :p I was tempted to drop down where those arches were, but I thought 'will I be able to get back up?' and left it. In the Asylum, should there be a locked door next to the skeleton in black-ish armour? I assume that leads to the skeleton on the ruined staircase that had loot on it? And the guy who gives you the key in the opening cutscene, is he the same guy you find dying?

Besides DSFix, Improved Healthbars and the HUD + Text improvement (for resolutions over 720), are there any other mods that could be considered essential?

Yeah, there is a locked door, and the key for it is hidden in Firelink Shrine. You won't be able to return to the Asylum though until you've unlocked that elevator I mentioned above.

And yup, that's Oscar, he helps you escape as he's dying, and passes his mission on to you.

That's up to you really, as virtually every other mod is just a texture replacement for various weapons and shields. There are no gameplay changing mods that I've found so far. http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/topalltime/?adult=2 is a good place to look though :)
