Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Well, I confess I had to cheat a bit and look up how to get the Drake Sword, as I was getting a bit miffed with Black Knights and the big skeletons with shields and capes in Undead Parish. I'm happy though, first Black Knight I took down (near the blue gemstone ring thing) dropped a Black Shield :D Replaced my bandit starter shield instantly. Now I just need to tackle the one at the beginning of Parish. I still hate those blummin rats though...

Also, as a quick aside, does DSFix and Improved UI + Text stop the 'names' of the area you just entered from appearing? I didn't know I had entered Undead Parish... is it only the first time you enter an area and I just missed it?

Also, my armour loading or whatever it's called in the stats screen, it says 26.5 / 56.5 or similar, does this mean I've over 50% load? I need to increase my Endurance to get that down right?

You mean the rats under the bridge? You can avoid them quite easily. After the Hellkite Dragon has cleaned off the bridge, hide in the area opposite the stairs, and wait for a little bit. You'll hear the dragon roar and then he'll jump down onto the bridge. That's your cue to sprint under his legs and right into the Parish. Make sure you're under 25% equip load so you run as fast as you can.

DSFix definitely doesn't, but I don't have Improved UI so can't be sure on that. I do know the area name only pops up when you enter an area, and doesn't come up again until you enter a new area.

If you've got 26.5 / 56.5 then you're under 50% load (50% of 56.5 is 28.25). I'd personally recommend to make sure it never goes over 50%, as you're just ridiculously slow then (but you can tank a lot of enemies if you're wearing the best armour). I prefer to be under 25% load now as it's a lot easier to dodge and avoid attacks, but for your first playthrough anything under 50% is fine as it'll let you wear some pretty decent armour while not slowing you down too much.

What are you wearing that boosts your equip burden? Ring of Favor and Protection? Increasing your Endurance stat will increase your equip burden by 1 point for every level you go up. A lot of players aim to get their Endurance up to at least 30 fairly quickly to give them a lot more options in relation to what they can use weapon and armour wise.

Cheers for the info.

As far as I know, i'm not wearing anything to increase my max equip burden, from memory I'm using the Drake Sword, Black shield, Hollow Warrior armour and helmet, and starter gloves, boots and pants. Only ring I have is the blue ring from near the black knight.

Endurance is at 15 afaik.

Something must be up with your equip burden then, as your Equip Burden = 40 + Your Endurance level, so if you have a burden ending in .5, it means you're using something that boosts your equip burden.

If your Endurance is 15, that would make your equip burden 55, so if you're using 26.5, then you're still just below 50%, so that's still good :)

I'll check tonight, I'm sure there was a decimal point and a number, but I may be imagining things.

Is Steam the cheapest place for this currently?

14.99 seems quite good, loved Demon Souls as well.

Steam is not the cheapest place, I picked up the retail copy with all the extra bits (pretty sweet) for £13 when I got it.

Reminds me, I should play Demon Souls again some time :p Did they take down the servers? They said they were going to ages ago, that's why I stopped playing

Caved and bought this on Steam today however they ran out of keys and awaiting new ones boo. Not even sure if I like it but the podcasts I listen to they still bang on about this game even now and keep praising it so I figure I need to check out what all the fuss is about it for it to be regarded so highly.

Woot, that's my low-level, one shot boss challenge complete. I had to make do with a 2 hit kill (which is within the rules) for both Kalameet and Manus, as they both have far too much health to kill in one hit when I'm restricted on levelling up (not to mention both are resistant to dark magic like Dark Bead). Four Kings went down no problem (actually it was just one king as I killed him so quickly), and Gwyn took a few tries and then went down easily. A fun challenge but not something I'll do again I think.

Now for a Dex/Faith build next :D

Screw the capra demon!!!!!

So, I play for a hour or so, clearing all the golems, bushes and those frogs in the secret areas in the forest to get to the wolf ring. Kill the butterfly boss thing, all of this, without a single sweat breaking. Think "right, I have done a little farm to get some SL's, cleared all this without a worry, maybe it's time to tackle to capra demon again".

NOPE! Went in, got one dog down, started my way up to steps, second dog jumped back so I started to panic, Capra demon dropped me pretty quickly. Sick of it!

Hate him sooooooo much!

I assume you've got a 100% physical block shield? If so, go down to New London Ruins and get the Estoc (head left towards the path, it's on a body before you get to the bridge). With the Estoc you can attack while keeping your shield up. This will allow you to keep your guard up while you clear the dogs. You can then swap to your normal weapon to take out the Capra one on one.

I did not know this... I already have that, will give it a shot. Once I have calmed down haha.

Good going! :)

I usually play as a heavy armor / strength build, I am currently giving the <25% encumbrance Dex build a go.

So far so good, started as a wanderer and I am sticking with the default armour and scimitar for now. I know there are better armour sets and weapons but I like the looks and moveset. I will swap the hood for a baldur helm once I pump END a bit.

The lack of poise was very apparent until I picked up the Wolf ring, it makes such a difference.

Anyone got any tips for the Undead Parish Bell Tower Gargoyles? I've repeatedly managed to get the first one to about a quarter of health left, but I always end up dying thanks to his brother. Currently on 19 Vit, 17 End, 16 Str, 14 Dex. Is it worth turning human to summon Sunbro and the dude with golden armour?

What role does your SL play in Dark Souls btw?

Cut off tail so he can't hit you with flying tail sweep attack, then two hand weapon (maybe even use resin) and chop. If your getting him down to quarter health all you need to do is finish him off then the fight is a piece of cake

Have you gotten the Drake Sword?

I strongly recommend getting that. Takes 5 minutes, has 200dmg and will do for a while.

You will do a lot more damage early on. Making life easier. You can down the bell tower gargoyles with a few hits with that sword.

Youtube how to get it. You will need a bunch of arrows and a bow. Also, it has a high strength requirement, 20 I think?
