Dark web

I had a look and didnt like it, people post kid porn pics in random places with no warning, kind of stuff thats hard to forget, so never went back.

Dark web or TOR - it's slooooow and I'm told it's vulnerable to attacks from people who know how to work it, anonimity is not guaranteed because of this. I suppose its great for people in censored countries to get information in and out undetected but with some risks. It also great for illegal traders but the governments world wide are all over it and the U.S are definately going to be setting up sites to catch people after some of the biggest sites in the world have fallen in recent times. I would be very careful of doing anything illegal - im sure it red hot right now with all the terror stuff, drugs and firearms - yes it is really there, the sites exist or at least the ones i knew did but I wouldn't risk buying anything dodgy.

Tainted with what?...more crystal meth? :D

lol I think it was blue in colour like breaking pad but something nasty was giving the colour.

but yea anyone who takes drugs that don't occur naturally or aren't proven as relatively safe by scientists is mental anyway and might as well be smoking/injecting bleach

I wouldn't recommend it. FBI/CIA were/are apparently watching and tracking the nodes of certain sites. Who went in, what came out etc. So that's enough for a possible place on a watchlist.

Never been on it, only read threads on /b/ and that was enough. It is seriously a nasty place. Without taking proper percautions (disabling Java etc) it's just not worth it.

Isn't disabling Java for stopping spy/Government spyware downloads? :p

There are several places on the "light" web that you can browse lists of pages on tor, most of it seems to be "my tor page" style sites, special interest forums (not illegal) and "backups" of pay for porn sites as well as normal sites people just put on tor. There seems to be a few dodgy sites as well but not that many. That said they may not be on open lists on purpose!

The Hidden Wiki is the page for darkweb tourists. Check it out, realise you've made a mistake and then post here with your realisation.

A lot of people use it solely to know they aren't likely to have the conversation or info stored or shared somewhere in digital fabric, or someone is profiting from it in some way.

Doesn't mean it has to be sordid. Imagine mostly paranoid people on there.

Pretty much like the old days of IRC I suppose.

Personally I don't give two hoots what data companies have on me, at least my spam through the post is sorta relevant.

People need to get use to the fact the internet is a public place and will always be that.

Wasn't everyone banging on about the dark web a few years ago like it was the "cool edgy place"for peole to go on the Internet. Then the Feds were all over it because of Silk Road so now u can't even trust using the tor project.
Having read articles about it i find it hard to believe when they say only 5% of the worlds websites and information are available in normal browsers and 95% has been pushed into the deep web

I was tempted to have a look around (nothing illegal) but kinda chickened out after reading stories of red rooms and other messed up crap like that. There is something about watching a video of a kidnapped homeless person getting tortured for fun which I don't like.
