I been close to the bottom and am talking years ago in like 1998 with scan line pictures on a 33k modems. You knew sod all what you where getting just waiting for the picture to build. :eek:

They where very dark times I can assure you! :(
 
Darknet is like internet travel back to 90ies - slow, unreliable, shoddy servers with terrible page designs, you have to find everything yourself and your dad doesn't know anything about it. And as for how deep of a web it is, well, very, so deep you have to google everything you want to find on it, so, yeah, that deep and dark.

Stuff like TOR, etc. that is generally talked about in the context of "deep" or "dark" net is totally overblown - but there are some shady corners of the internet hidden behind other services with gateways you won't find by looking for them.
 
I dabbled about on Tor for a while when it was gaining popularity. I already knew what to expect anyway, from the days of unfettered BBS/newsgroups/DCs/etc and the like in yesteryear, and I got pretty much the same again: The "deep" stuff is just kiddie and rape porn, snuff films and scams. There are listings for hitmen but you must be a complete idiot to think they are anything other than scams. I did find some sites that were market places for things like explosives, but again will be scams.

I wouldn't go on there myself. Been on /b on 4chan and that was too dodgy for me. Scared to ever go back. Massive bunch of weirdos on there.
