Dashcams!

Can't make my mind up on which dashcam's to go for, there now seems to be a minefield of available ones out there, but lots seem to be plagued with reliability issues.

The 806 looks to have been very popular a year ago or so, but now seems to have lots of negative reviews, and there doesn't seem to be a "newer" model out.

The nextbase range also look to be a little outdated now, and the higher end of the range are just stupidly big.

I did quite like the look of the Transcend 220 (size/features), and also quite liked the look of the koonlung k1s - camera sizes are perfect. But there seems to be some bad reviews about the screen causing reliability issues.

The Xiaomi Yi camera looks good for a rear camera, but not for the front.

What else seems to be hot on the market at the moment?

Its a saving of about £30-£50 bud compared to other suppliers (not sure if it'll raise up after launch). I got the hardwired 32Gb version (front and rear) pre-ordered from here:

I've noticed other suppliers putting up pre-orders this week too, but they were more expensive.

I've already got an email from this supplier (link above) saying they are due in mid to late next week and pre-orders will be shipped next day.

Thanks for that. I start my new job Monday and I won't recieve my first paycheck until the end of July. May just have to wait to order one.

If you can, I'd suggest plugging the power into the dashcam itself whilst it's in the mount. I've found that plugging into the mount caused issues whereas plugging directly solved it... for what it's worth, the GPS mount (if fitted) still works fine.

Ah, thanks....I'll give that a try.

I currently have a 220 waiting to go into my car once it gets delivered and an 0806 4th gen on order from ebay to go in the other. Will let you know how it goes!

They are on the Blackvue site and are some of (if not) the best cameras you can buy the Wife has an older one and it has worked faultlessly for 6+years. But sit down when looking at the price of them.

Im in korea currently (and know they're korean) can get the basic one for about £65 I think.

My thinking is alng the lines of Semples post, bit of a minefield and all the recommended ones are a few years old now, maybe no bad thing really, but did read lots of complaints about the blackvue firmware and people hacking/releasing their own? Again maybe no bad thing!

If that K1 didn't have some dodgy reviews I would buy it in a heart beat. Seems the perfect system and I could plug the video out into my Kenwood flip out screen.

My mini 0806 with GPS and CPL arrived today. Just waiting on the hard wire kit and mem cards (and obvs the car!)

Quick photo comparison between 0806 and 220:

The 220 is quite the fatty!

Got the Vantrue N1 today, had a little test fit and the annoying Ford emergency assist box/GPS antenna is in the way on the passenger side but I can hide it away behind the mirror on the drivers side.

Camera fitted - I'll probably paint the silver bits black when I'm happy it's working properly.

Off the mount you wouldn't know anything was there.

Wish I had that black out bit in my widscreen. I tried my N1 fixed to the left hand side of the rear view mirror. Seemed a decent place but I have not tried mine yet, still unsure whether to send it back and get the K1s.

Had a dream my car was broken into and literally everything except the dashcam was stolen :o

I think Fox invaded my dream.

Nanoq Mini 0903 Test Footage. Seems like i got a good copy for focusing as it seems ok to me. I think there may be other firmware options out there to increase bitrate as the raw files can be a bit down on quality. Audio seems ok but a slight rattle from the mount. GPS wasn't working for speed so not sure whether it's me who hasn't turned it on.

I bought this as a test as i liked the form factor so wanted to take the risk, especially with it being shipped from Amazon. Have a Vantrue N1 as a backup if it's rubbish. The form factor of the Mini0903 is tiny! Smaller than i thought!

Annoyingly, the rain sensor gets in the way quite a bit so not in the most ideal place...out of my eyeline but not as hidden away as i would like. You can see the edge of the rain sensor in the video above. My windscreen is also heated so can obscure a bit. Got a polarising filter inbound also! I need to test whether it mucks about with the auto-dimming rear view mirror as i think the sensor is right where i've put the dash cam.

Impressed with the Wifi for such a cheap device. Quite handy to change the settings on the phone.

What other problems are these plagued with? GPS and poor focusing?
