Dashcams!

Watched episode 1 of "Car Crash Britain" earlier, some quite interesting footage not seen on the usual dashcam/helmet cam YouTube channels before and of course interviews with the cammers for some extra insight. overall not a bad show by the looks of it, but clearly been edited for a TV audience with the dramatic music and narration style.

Did laugh at the selective bleeping out of light swearies yet f bombs were left intact... Anyone interested it's gzJiYbY9TJk on the 'Tube.

I got my Vantrue N1 a few days ago so I've been playing around with it (still need to tidy up the cables a bit more). Annoyingly however the best location for it (so that it is hidden by the rear view mirror from the driver's view) means the dash cam view is partially obscured as shown below. I'm not sure whether the video it gives is a good enough compromise as it still shows what is going on while not being a distraction for me as a driver?

^^ I've hung mine off my rear view mirror for now and Seems a decent place for it. Its pretty small and doesn't really obstruct my view.

I also ordered a transcend 520 but it's just too big. The screen on it is not far off the whole size of the N1.

Think I'm going to stick with the N1.

Anyone know of any good how to vids for fitting a power point? My cig lighter is permanently on so need one wired up to come on with ignition. Also want to put one in the rear.

That's not a good position. You're blocking visibility of the right. Note how visibility of the road to the right of that crossroads is blocked. You also seem to have the camera itself rather far back from the glass. Move the camera to the left and forwards. Alternatively, could you mount it on the dashboard and not the windscreen?

Yeah, I think I'll try playing around with the position some more to get a better view. Moving it to the left will make it more obvious from outside and mean it'll be visible on the windscreen by the driver which I would like to avoid if possible. I might try mounting it off the mirror instead and see how that works out.

for me it seems a good position. when parked its easy to just push the camera up on the ball joint so its not visible through the windscreen. Also good quick access if you need to turn it in another direction.

I have a DOD LS460W. My first camera and very pleased with the quality of it. You can't always see the number plates clearly when played back but the stills you can take from the video are extremely clear. The quality of the video in poor light and at night is also excellent.

After a couple of dashcams, not got an amazing car but its an ST and I'm very aware people like to nick bits off them.

I have had a quick trawl through the thread but figured it was easiest to list my requirements and see what fits best.

I'm after front and rear cams preferably on 24/7, how does this effect the battery? How easy is it to hardwire them in?

Want decent night vision, although my house is right next to a street lamp so when parked this doesn't matter so much but on the drive it might.

Preferably small so it isn't too visible from the outside.

Cost ideally cheaper the better but not too sure what to expect to pay, my knowledge of dashcams is pretty much just the rexing v1 and vantrune n1.

What would you guys suggest?
