Dashcams!

I think the Blackvue does and will run until it detects your car battery is low. The problem with most dashcam is that most don't have a large capacity battery or just a capacitor so it does not hold enough juice to run it for long. The cheat way is get something like a the Gitup and change the settings to run it in Dashcam mode with it continuous record AFTER the power has shut off. But I think there is a time limit to like either 30 or 60mins.

Oh cool you can do that then? Are they much of a drain on your battery if they are on for a few hours with the car off?

EDIT - Posted same time as you Raymond, thanks for that. Will have a look, in this instance, 30 minutes would have been plenty! :p

Some cam has a G-force or motion detection which does record if people goes pass but obviously, they are not perfect and it could record after the event rather than the important impact.

Apologies if this has been posted, but are there any dashcams that can come on after any knocks to the car or similar? Even with the ignition off

I had a hit and run incident in a car park the other day and was lucky enough to have people see it and give me the details so I'm getting it paid for by her now, but that is unlikely to be the case next time?

Thinkware's range that support Parking Surveillance mode all do this bud. Not only does my F770 record motion detection stuff around the car it also does impact detection and saves the footage (10 secs before and 10 secs after).

All fully configurable. It lasts for about 2 days I believe.

The thinkware range have built-in voltmeters so monitor the battery and will automatically shut down the camera if the battery voltage drops below a specified value. Time lapse mode introduced on the F770 also conserves battery further allowing this period to be extended.

It's what I love about the thinkwares - they have all this sort of stuff built-in. No need to buy additional modules etc like the Blackvue's etc. You get what you pay for ;)

Think I'm going to get one of those F770's, expensive but I like the sound of what they offer! Thanks guys

They look quite big though, are they easy enough to hide away discreetly?

It weighs a lot less and is smaller than the F750 too

Had to mount it slightly to the left as the auto-wiper sensor cover was getting in the way :(

Wired straight into fuse box - no need for additional fuses etc:

Any questions or stuff to try out, please feel free to ask.

He also wrote a little review on page 41, post #1214. I will be ordering mine soon!

Thanks Gimli! - saved me a job there :)

They are far more discreet than other dashcams as they don't have a built in screen so stand out less. My CC was a pain to mount it in as the auto-wiper sensor cover and the black tinting got in the way of the picture hence the location I finally chose being ever so slightly in my view as the driver. Nothing major though and thanks to the clever design on the newer F770 the cables are all nicely hidden.

Found a couple of reviews here that peeps may find handy:

And a good comparison (applicable here as its more or less the same as the F770) between the F750 to the BlackVue 650 similar type model.

ADAS: Thinkware’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant Systems) feature offers real time driver assistant tools to improve driver safety on the road. The ADAS incorporation in the F750 takes driver safety to the next level with it’s safety features, some of its features include;

Lane departure warnings – Alerts driver when vehicle strays out of lane
Forward collision warnings – Alert drivers when approaching too closely to the vehicle ahead to avoid collision
Front Car Movement Detection – Alerts when the vehicle in front of you moves forward
Speed camera alerts – Alerts when vehicle approaches red light cameras, speed cameras, average speed zones & mobile speed zone

Even if we take ADAS out of the equation many reviewers have reported superior quality recording on the Thinkware F7x0 compared to the Blackvue 650. (The Blackvue 650 also needs an additional module for parking mode to work and it still doesn't have a battery monitor built-in). Sooooo glad I waited for the F770!

Just upgraded mine to 64Gb with a samsung micro-sd card - works a treat :)
Apparantly it can take 128Gb cards too but Thinkware don't recommend them as they can become unreliable quickly for some reason.

Thanks guys :)

Zoomee who installed it for you? I'd like it properly installed too but wouldn't have the skill or the patience to attempt it myself

Just a local car auto-electrician bud. If you buy it from the likes of RAC I think they can arrange for an engineer to come out to you, but from what it sounds (only judging this on a comment someone here made) like they are a set of cowboys who will try to fob it off as soon as they come across an issue.

Flippin eck! - They've raised the price - apparantly £110 for installation! - I only paid my local dealer £65 ;) (and only £249 for the 32Gb 2Ch version WITH the hard-wired kit - look for the links a couple of pages back)

I'd probably recommend you avoid these larger installation type companies and just go to a local auto-electrician. To be honest it's not really that difficult - I could have done it myself but havn't been well recently so just don't have the energy.

hmm, im glad you guys have said about a different dashcam, that thinkware looks good

I was thinking of getting the nextbase 512, now im not sure

is the thinkware "branded" like nextbase or Road Angel etc ?

if its as good as the nextbase, and offers good parking mode (I work in a supermarket, and my car is in the car park for 9 hours a day) so that would benefit me if its discreet enough like my mini 0806

offers rear view as well doesn't it ?

I did a lot of research on dashcams and just didn't like the idea of the cheapo imported ones as I'm a great believer in 'you get what you pay for'.

The thinkware F770 is classed as the BEST dashcam on the market as of today - nothing touches it for quality nor for feature set bud. I bought mine primarily to protect the car whilst I'm away from it.

Once configured it just does its job - no interaction required at all. Chuck in the speed camera alert and other gumpf (if your gunna use it!) and I assure you, you won't go back to these cheaper models ever.

Thinkware is a South Korean company - they supply worldwide and use their own brand name bud. and Yes 2 Channel - meaning both front and rear along with a 32Gb SD card for only £249 (don't forget you need the hard-wired version in order to use parking surveillance mode).

ONE word of advice - Be careful of any supplier which advertises them as more than 64Gb. Thinkware only recommend a maximum of 64Gb SD cards due to reliability issues with higher capacity ones. I've seen ones being sold as 128Gb - when in reality they are just 64Gb + 64Gb SD card ones - so a bit of a con really lol - cheeky gits on amazon lol

cheers for the advice

on my focus , the cig lighter is always on (and that includes the 12v one) will that work ?
at the moment I used to have the mini0806 plugged into a fused loop circuit, so it would turn off when I switched the engine off, would either of these ways work for parking mode ? or do I have to "hard wire" it in ? (which I rather not do if im honest)

My K1S works just fine with a 128 GB SD card.

For me, the F770 is far too visible from the front.
