Dashcams!

F770 is great & simple to install once you figure the route out for the cable, Chameleon Codewing were very helpful when I ordered mine. I still need to hardwire mine though

Consider doing it yourself, today I installed a F770 in the missus car. Using guides online it was really straight forward. I still need to hook up the rear camera but I ran out of light this evening so will continue tomorrow.

I always end up breaking things! I'm going to get this properly installed and get a spare install kit so when this lease is up I can easily just remove the cameras and leave the wires, then move it to another car.

It's pretty interesting how all it takes is a split second for potential disaster to strike.

Was overtaking a lorry today and leaving a decent gap for the manoeuvre. I then noticed an SUV pull out from behind and come up fast to overtake us both so had to close the lane gap slightly to be more even. Lorry then suddenly splashes the entire windscreen with so much water that it took two wipes to clear it all.

I can see how someone could very easily get freaked out by this and lose control.

It isn't, and rainx is crap anyway. The moment you start using your wipers it's been wiped off. So essentially it's only effective for the short time it lasts if you don't use your wipers, which is a bit absurd.

The version that can be applied to the screen lasts months before needing reapplication. There is also a version that can be added to your wiper bottle that is applied every time you use it. It really isn't crap.

That hasn't been my experience of it really. Besides, it wouldn't have helped a large pool of water coming down onto the windshield anyway, that being moved is mostly down to the wipers and physics.

I've just come across this topic in my search for a dashcam for my brother.

I haven't had the chance to read through it all yet but we are looking for something in the area of up to £50.

REXING V1 - currently £49.99 on the rainforest. I brought one for my other half some time ago, she has had no issues.

Yes it doesn't have all of the best features as standard (movement sensor etc.), but for the price it's an excellent buy.

If you want to hard wire, also buy the Nextbase Car Camera hard wire kit £15.

Sorry for the silly question, but what does it mean with hard wire?

I think my brother want a cheap dashcam to just record basic things after a bit of a fight with the insurance company and the faulting driver in a claim during last year. I've been asked if I could help find one so I'm trying.

Means wired to the fusebox instead of plugged into the 12v lighter socket

I've just had my Thinkware Dashcam F770 front and rear installed. There's a host of settings can anyone recommend their settings? Especially with the parking mode sensitivity.

I've hardwired a dashcam into my car, wired it into an always on spur, which seems to work so far.

My only question is that now my stop-start doesn't work, not a big issue but will leaving a dashcam wired in damage the battery enough to stop this working if I ever remove it?

What not wire it into a fuse which powers when starting the ignition?

hmm you sure you wired it in properly ? I'd be very careful with the electronics in your car haha ;) especially if things now don't work.

I hardwired my dashcam into the rain sensor loom on my z4 and it works fine but nothing in car has decided to die.

stop-start I believe monitors the voltage coming through and decides if the car can be started up again.. if you're drawing volts from it could be the fact that it is below threshold and now it refuses to switch the engine off as it believes it won't start.
