Dashcams!

I've hardwired a dashcam into my car, wired it into an always on spur, which seems to work so far.

This is not a good idea. I've flattened my car's battery several times by leaving the dashcam plugged in - sometimes I can go a week without using the car.

I *think* I've settled on a nextbase 412gw, halfrauds are doing them for 99 quid with fitting kit.

Is there a better one I should consider?

Sorry for the silly question, but what does it mean with hard wire?

I think my brother want a cheap dashcam to just record basic things after a bit of a fight with the insurance company and the faulting driver in a claim during last year. I've been asked if I could help find one so I'm trying.

I got one of these in the sales for £35, excellent bit of kit for the money.

Hi All,

Firstly happy new year everyone.

I got a Nextbase 512-G dash cam along with their hard wiring kit.

https://www.nextbase...n-car-cam-512g/

Before I attempt to install it in the car, I would like to know roughly where is the best place to install it on the windscreen, and how to hide the wiring so that it does not show as much.

The wiring kit has a piggy back fuse so I can just place it in a switch live fuse. Noticed that it has a fine holder thingy on top of the fuses, so that could be a issue.

The car is Audi Q5
I would appreciate you help?

Regards
James

I settled on the 412gw - hardwired into my X5. I have the powercable running from the fuse box in the passenger footwell, tucked up behind the A pillar and the top of the window trim, and have the camera mounted on the passenger side behind the rear view mirror.

This might seem odd - it means I can't see it at all while driving. But I don't need to... it auto records when the ignition is on, and stops when the ignition is off. I can connect to it via wifi or quickly remove the memory card if I want any footage.

DDPai have done an international version of their M6... the M4, with a Sony sensor in it.

Can be found for around £76 on eBay.

Have many people fitted Mobius cameras? I have looked through the last few pages and cant see much mention of it.

I like it as its small enough to hide behind the Rear View Mirror.

Anyone recommend anything else for around the £100 mark?

Do many people record the rear also?

I'm expecting my new car to be delivered soon, and a dashcam is one of those things I've never had but would like to have in my new one.

Recommendations around the £100 mark?

Yeah, you tend to need to buy them from eBay as they are focused on the Eastern market I believe. The M4 is their international version though, so maybe that starts appearing more in European online shops?

Which ever one you choose make sure it has a built in low battery voltage cut off..

As you don't want to have a completely flat battery when you jump in your car..;)

Right, my Mini 0806 seems to be failing - battery issues....I have taken it out of the car for a charge boost, but I suspect that it simply won't handle enough of a charge to stop it beeping annoyingly the whole time when plugged in the car. I had an installer come and fit the mounting bracket thingy and the wiring all need and hidden, as figured my DIY skills would have wrecked a lovely (and expensive!) car.

So, what are my options to replace - I don't really want to even attempt replacing the battery in the Mini 0806 - for example, is there something out there which I can quite easily reuse the microusb power and will 'fit' (meaning the mount/bracket) almost the same? Don't mind spending £s for the right solution, so advice from the panel, please :)
