Dashcams!

I thought the Mini 0806's went of power from the car (as do almost all Dashcams). The battery isn't really necessary? Isn't it more likely a dodgy cable?

Can you temporarily rig up a different cable, even if it's hanging all over the place, just to see if that fixes the issue?

Yeah, sorry, wasn't that clear.....the power is from the car, and the cabling professionally installed. The problem seems to be that the battery within cannot even hold a tiny charge and so the camera has started to give a low battery alert even when powered - I have plugged it in to a cable at home, from the mains, and the same problem occurs.
From reading on t'web, seems these do suffer from dying battery after time.....I am not prepared to attempt to replace it (looks a little fiddly, to say the least) and would rather just 'upgrade'......

It was mini USB powered, right? I think most are these days, I guess as long as you upgrade to another taking mini USB power, you're probably okay?

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. Looking at a Nextbase 412GW, possibly....although open to other suggestions!
I suppose my only issue will be if the power connector reaches, as the current mount is high on the windscreen and the connector perfectly aligned - hoping I can tug it along a little :D

Not been in here a while, but was having a conversation at work with a couple of the chaps, and we got talking about whether it would be a good idea for car manufacturers to offer factory fitted dashcams as an optional extra and whether people would actually want them. I thought it was a good idea but then one of the "they're out to monitor/big brother you" chaps thought it would lead to potential infringements of human rights as the police could look at where you've been, standard of driving etc.

What are peoples thoughts on factory fitted options?

Isn't there a Citroen (Cactus?) that offers integrated camera - sure I have seen a TV ad....
Actually, don't know why more cars don't offer - my car, for example, has front/back/side cameras for parking etc., so should be quite straightforward for the manufacturer to link them up to a recording device!

Any recommended wedge style, dual channel (front and rear?)

F770 is quite expensive ~£250. Any <£150? Would like the rear to be 1080p at least.

I'm after a fairly cheap but decent dashcam, was thinking of spending around the £50 mark. After watching youtube reviews and searching online I settled on the Viofo A119 for £70.

Have many people fitted Mobius cameras? I have looked through the last few pages and cant see much mention of it.

I like it as its small enough to hide behind the Rear View Mirror.

Anyone recommend anything else for around the £100 mark?

Do many people record the rear also?

I know you posted this almost a month ago, thought I'd reply anyway just incase you were still deciding because I've had mine for about 15 months now.

Haven't had any issues with mine at all. I still haven't hardwired it to be honest although I'm thinking about getting that done soon. Video quality is fairly good, not as sharp as some cameras, but said cameras cost twice as much. Sound quality is OK if you choose to leave sound enabled. With the smallest adjustable sticky mount it sits behind the rear view mirror in my car quite nicely, I located mine so I could see the LEDs and see what it's doing - couldn't live with a screen like on other cameras though, no matter how small the screen might be.

The Möbius 2 is out now which features 1080p 60FPS recording so I'm tempted to get one as a front camera and have the Mobius 1 as a rear camera because people driving dangerously close seems to be becoming an increasing problem around here.

Got a cheap £15 cam from Groupon to see how I get on with it and have asked BMW and they quoted me nearly £500 inc for front and rear cams installed, has anyone any experience of BMWs fitted cams?

Rear parking camera is a fisheye type, it will view everything behind the car, so no issue.

I searched quite a bit and struggled to find one in this sort of price range that didn't have at least some negative feedback. The above link is just one comment and he actually says it would be okay if it was £69; doesn't state how much he paid but I paid £70. It arrived today and I'm in no rush to return it based on the above, will see how it goes.

Yeah, a little, but I would imagine that a solution (e.g. twin lens or switchable position) could be implemented....although below applies to

Dunno, but it is a fab chance for the car manufacturers to charge several times what a decent aftermarket one costs - just think SatNav!

You understand the chances of that being reliable enough to be worth while are probably quite slim?

Well I bought it beginning of December and every video I've viewed from it is actually fine and you can read number plates etc where required.

I guess it's not a £300+ 4k recording one so people will look down their noses but when other drivers see it there they do change their driving style I've noticed.
