Dashcams!

I disagree. Just because something is a risk doesn't mean you're also at fault. Blimey you're at risk driving 70mph on the motorway but you're not going to lose an insurance battle if someone drives into you doing that.

I'm pretty sure the insurance company would see it that he drove into my side. Of course I'm always expecting him to pull out. I always expect the worse and drive defensively. However, what should you do? Continue at 10th behind the procession? Pull out to overtake but not and just hold back for miles until/if the van does eventually pull out? I think we're pulling at straws here.

Not that it matters, it didn't happen but we'll just leave it at that and agree to disagree.

E: but just for clarity, should I remember to, I'll ask an insurance claims mate his opinion on the matter and round off this discussion should I bother to in future.

Just received my new Garmin 55 and put it in, just need to wait for the pad to cure then can play with it. I moved the Finevue to the rear now.

Why did it come in handy? That is about as open and shut a case as an insurance company will ever find - I doubt its even worth paying the admin person to watch the video!

You'd have had zero trouble at all without your footage.

It's clearly his fault but you've got to feel for the guy - you accelerated and then braked harshly...

I should post the rest of the footage. ****** signs, etc, etc. I had to brake sharply as a van came around the corner a bit quick. Agreed footage isn't needed in this case but it makes life a bit easier. It also helped when my car was parked in Halfords car park and someone rear ended and drove off without leaving details.

Yes, the rear driver could claim that you were trying a 'cash for crash' scam, so the forward camera footage, showing you needed to stop, is vital.

I would think the DDPai M4+ or M6+ is worth checking.

I've just got into using my button with mine, have mounted it on the dash now, love it. Lets me grab little moments of things (5 seconds before press, 5 seconds after), like an amazing looking car, or something weird on the road. Connect in with the app and it automatically downloads to the phone. Very handy.

What if the phone isn't connected to the camera at the time ? Does it save the 11 sec footage when it does connect ?

The phone doesn't need to be connected. It stores it until it next connects and then transfers it via the WiFi connection it makes.

**EDIT** It makes capturing so easy. Like this...

How does that happen?!

What's up with the left hand lane? ;)

My Mini 0806 has become very unstable lately.
Constant memory corruption due to instant shutdown once ignition is off.

Decided to crack open the dashcam and the battery looks uneven. Some sides has started to bulge out although not too extreme.
Safe to say that it might be culprit.

Well i am after a new cam again, I have had a Mobius and DDPAI, but was looking at the Thinkware 550 or Blackvue DR450 this time, they both fall into my £150 budget. Any thoughts on these, I dont want one with a screen, smaller the better.

thanks

Getting on really well with the Thinkware F750 , Very happy with it still. Captured some real "wtf" moments with it but not bothered to upload. Might have to start contributing a bit more to this thread.

Correct, it is. But let's say the gentleman behind decides to tell his insurance company that RockLobster went forward, then a van came from the other way so RockLobster attempted to reverse to let the van past and in doing so, reversed straight into the mans lovely Vauxhall Vectra (?).

RL loses his no claims and has a fault accident against his name, all because it is so very easy to lie to an insurance company when there are no independent witnesses.

To be honest, it barely seems like the guy is in control of his car in the seconds leading up to the collision with the OP!

But of course the reality is its very unlikely the other party will try do that, and even if they do, it's unlikely the insurer will buy it. It's very difficult not to get the blame if the front of your car impacts the rear of a third parties vehicle.
