Dashcams!

passing a lady just pulling upto a T junction on her phone, quick beep whist passing she drops her phone (probably should not have done that but it annoys me),
5 mins later i was just about to get out the car at the local shops and she pulls up and blocks me in, starts screaming and shouting saying do you think you are the police, just told her to sod off, eventually she goes and i come out the shop and shes sitting round the corner taking photos, lol nutter

anyway luckily have all the footage on dash-cam with her on the phone too

quick call to the police and they have put a marker on her car and wanted to know if i want to make a formal complaint as they might be interested in the footage

question to you guys would you make that complaint??

Yes..

The more that get banned/points the sooner idiots will be off the road.

Saying that about a month ago ..no phone involved.. a female was applying make up (foundation i believe) vigorously whilst in traffic.
Ok..i thought she will stop once we're on the move....nope.
40mph she still going mad with the brush on her face in the mirror and i was in front bracing for the shunt.
Guy behind her held his horn on for approx 1 mile but she blatantly ignored him.

Glad no one called her on her phone or her multitasking would have been put to the test.

Yes I would coz of the attitude , if she had just acknowledged it and left it without getting all confrontational against you , I would have let it go.

Suggestions for a front/rear setup in a ragtop? I'd assume mounting the rear camera just above the mirror pointing backwards, or fabricating something between the roll hoops is the way to go?

Yes she shouldn't have been on the phone but imo you were in the wrong to have beeped. You created the situation.

I'd say stop cruising around like a challenged person and just get on with life...

Isn't that standard operating procedure for dashcams? Judging by the stuff on YouTube it is :D

It does seem that way. Looks like there is a new outlet for sanctimonious people to pretend to play police.

Had some idiot beeping and flashing at me and pointing his finger at his webcam because I had the audacity to over take him at 100km/hr...in a 100km/hr zone whilst he was doing 80. Thankfully the roof was down so he had lovely footage of my hand to take home. :D

They do have their part to play though. Yesterday I moved out to overtake a tractor and van moving in slow procession. No sooner had I got level with the vans rear end, the van swung out to overtake the tractor. I quickly had to swing my car onto the verge on the other side of the road. He clearly hadn't checked behind before he decided to attempt his overtake maneuver and almost wiped me out. Had we collided, I'd have liked the video evidence to back me up.

Trouble with that though is it's not unreasonable to expect a van to move out and pass something as slow moving as a tractor - multiple vehicle overtakes of very slow moving vehicles are asking for trouble.

Not the same as faster moving traffic where it's often reasonable to believe the car in front is content to not overtake.

Indeed. However, should he have hit me it would have been him at fault, regardless of if it's perceived as "asking for trouble" or not. After all, it was him who failed to check his blind spot on his maneuver. Video evidence would support that should he want to fight an insurance argument over the matter.

I know what you mean that sometimes an illogical determination of who's to blame can happen. To me that's still clearly the van at fault. That's the reason the first thing in MSM is 'Mirror'.

Quite, which is why such things are never clear cut one person or the other sadly.
Which further supports the reason for a Dashcam: in situations where it isn't quite clear cut it is going to help. Because let's be frank, if you were conducting a safe overtake maneuver and then had someone fail to check their mirrors, pull out and wipe you out, I don't think you yourself will lay back and just accept an insurance hit because well hey, it wasn't very clear cut (despite you doing nothing wrong whatsoever).

Overtaking is an at risk manoeuvre generally, I'd not be surprised at 50/50 even with footage. To not expect somebody to move out past a tractor when clear and to attempt a multi vehicle overtake instead is a mistake imho, as is pulling out for an overtake without checking mirrors.
