Well I had a mate who used to go out on his own and actually make friends and pull. It can be done but you have to have the personality to pull it off. I know I cant do that but some can.

I am in the same boat. I have been single now for 3 years, as my last relationship was a bit of a strange one but I can't find a woman suitable yet. I over that time have fancied and fallen for 3 girls that I can't have due to them being in a relationship. Yet when I was in a relationship I could have had loads.
Life is strange and hard to believe the "stop trying and love will find you" crap as it never seems to happen like that. And cause I have been told I look younger than I am, I seem to get the 15 - 17 year old girls trying to chat to me , so I tell them I am 30 and end it straight there, though some girls are hard to guess there real age at first, until they chat to you more and they sound immature.
Here is hoping that there is some truth in the love will happen naturally line.

Most likely these are either:
1) Abandoned / dormant accounts
2) They get 999 messages a day and don't have time to reply to them all
3) Your "hello" email comes across in such a way that they don't know what to say.
This is one reason why I think the 'carpet bombing' approach adopted by some lads work, they will message dozens and dozens of girls (not spending a huge amount of time on each initial message) in the hope that a couple will respond favourably. Sure they get loads of ignored messages but it doesn't matter because they still snag the odd one or two.
When I dabbled with online dating 5 years ago I was far too selective in who I contacted, tailoring my first messages to what I could glean from the profile. I had this idea that I needed to stand out from the crowd, and show that I was actually interested in them specifically rather than a generic and shallow "hi hunni rly lyk ** pics *** 2 chat wiv u on msn sometime xxx" rolled out time and again. Whereas in reality most of the girls wouldn't be taking things to seriously and would probably be a lot more open to short 'icebreakers' than I suspected.
