Dawn of War II Beta Thread

Hmm I got a Key last night and I have so far seen no where to use it, are we supposed to use this thing in anyway?

Yea I found this a bit odd as it says "uses this key when the game asks" yet nothing has come up yet ^^. Oh well as long as it works :D

Tiz gooood!

Although, my favourite match it crashed.. so there are bugs.. naturally.. thats why it has beta plastered all over it.

I think the game is quite well balanced already. I've only played as Orks, but everything works the way I expect it to. (Bloody Marines firepower!!!)

By the weekend I imagine more OcUKers will be ready to play.

One bad thing though, Games For Windows Live.. this is the first time I've encountered it, and although it is XBL for PC, its bloody annoying in conjunction with Steam. I have my friends list in Steam.. and my XBL list for xbox.. I dont want my (already full) xbox list with Pc gamers on it..

The other thing is...

Where the hell are genestealers???

You'd think if they were finally putting the long anticipated Tyranids in DoW they might have stuck their most identifiable unit in  Feels like they've held a lot back for add-ons/DLC.

I'm thinking of cancelling my pre-order... I have the horrible feeling that they're going to micro-transaction us to death, and that it'll split the MP community, or leave some players with unique units that can't be countered because they paid for 'em.

only played a couple of games so far. Would like to say I'm impressed but so far it seems a bit meh. Although that could be because I had no idea what I was doing, lol

will probably get it when it comes out, but I'm not going to be rushing home on day of release anymore.

I havn't read much about the multiplayer of DoW2, as the SP interests me the most, so i would like to know how much base building there is? as ive read about HQ structures and turrets. Also, what sort of customisation is there? The commander units in SP can get wargear from certain missions, is there any way to customise the commander in MP or do you simply select which you want to use and thats it?

There is no base building. Certain commanders can place basic turrets. There is no collectable Wargear in MP. The only item you can 'collect' is rank, which only adjusts your automatch opponents. You can select three types of commander, and a faction paint job (e.g. Ultramarine), but that's it.

In-game you can buy upgrades for your commander that last for the duration of the match only.

I'm having problems, game loads up fine and I can play for the first 3-4 mins but then my computer tells me there is no DVI signal, I can still here the sounds and everything though, only way to fix it seems to be to restart my computer. Haven't had this problem with any other game :(

My friend is also having the same problem, so if you find out whats doing it let me know please

Game so far seems very fun, as a coh vet it definitely isn't just coh reskinned but they have definitely taken what they have learnt from coh and added it to dow it would just be stupid not to use what worked well in coh

I do also think there may be a lack of units though, a dedicated AT infantry squad would be useful, as would some different tanks for the space marines (only army ive played so far)

Also the Dark Angels green seems waay too light in my opinion they should be much darker.. they have made the game bright, the blood angels are almost orange ... spose they have been bumped from blood red by the ravens

My guess is they are trying to make it more action orientated and faster in the muliplayer.

Why they have taken out units is anyone's guess really? Though a small unit choice is not the worst thing in the world, as long as the ones that are there are really fun to play with.

Just need to keep it from turning in to how Mark of Chaos Multiplayer was, all those flying armies etc. Gues the easiest way would be to make a smaller selection of units that compliment one another well.

Im finding the game is a lot slower and less epic than the last DOW.

Seems to consist of small skirmishes now rather than larger battles Im used to from Dow1.
Not a bad thing in some ways, more tactical play is required and its worth keeping your squads alive.
Played a couple of games now using nothing more than the hero, the beginning scout squad, a tac marine squad and a heavy bolter squad.

Im not very good with the other races yet, orks seem less fun than the DOW1 orks though.

Been reading up on the community forums, seems several other people have had the crashing after a few mins of play with no video signal. Was actually looking at new graphics cards for a while! Hopefully be fixed in the day 0 patch then.
