Agreed, it isn't dumbed down. I find DoW2 much harder to win than DoW1. That or I'm just pants at the game
I think people should put aside their expectations of the game, and enjoy it for what it is. Expectations are only going to stop you from enjoying the game because it isn't what you thought it was, so all you do it bitch at it and not enjoy it. So it really isn't DoW2 as we would have thought it would be, but it still really is a great game, and so much fun when you have good teammates to play with

I like company of heroes though, and found dawn of war a bore. Just rush too the biggest army possible and destroy the other person. Always the same.
But battles are not fought like that in reality though, you dont have people running all over setting up vehicle factories and and gun turrets etc etc.
Lots of RTS game just like Dawn of war and Company of heroes are not so much strategy war games as economy simulators.
I dont want to beat people by being able to build more tanks than him, i want to beat people by making better tactical decisions on the field with the troops i have to hand.
If as a General you get your troops wiped out in the field, you dont just wait until your factory can build some more, thats it, you've lost.
I have to say, after playing a 3v3 (computer) game on Hard, I've changed my mind. Ok, it wasn't against a human, but it was a challenge. Me - SM, and two Ork allies against SM + 2 x Eldar. Was quite tough, especially when the enemy heavy armour rolled out. Thought it was over early on, but TWO hours later, after putting together a strike force of 2 assault terminator units, supporting two Predators, with scouts as backup, we fought our way to the enemies' strongholds. FC was the primary anti-armour unit - very effective with Powerfist!
Still would have liked a higher unit cap to fit in another few units, but overall the style of play is different, but just as good as the original DOW.
As ATPBX said, it's all about tactical decisions, and not trying to build the bigger army, and rolling them to the enemy base.

yes but in order to "build more tanks than him" you need to utilise the limited troops you have at the beginning by using as you said tactical decisions on the field to harass and damage his economy and his army as well. its not that simple as you say. implementing economy into an rts only makes it harder and never the opposite. without base building or resource gathering you have one less thing to worry about which makes the game dumbed down and simplified.
dawn of war 2 with base building, higher population cap, bigger maps and the already implemented features like tactical squads and physics could have been an epic rts.

The game is growing on me but there are some balance issues (or just plain bugs) that need to be fixed. I'm gonna post em on official DoW2 forums though I'll probably get flamed for my troubles.

In my experience with DoW1, I could just build a massive space marine army (3 or 4 tactical marines, 2 term squads, 2 preds, and land raiders) and you are pretty much unstoppable. I don't even have to be careful. Just zerg your opponents and you have won, pretty much. Lost a unit? No worries, I can just pump out more! With DoW2, I can't zerg, because I'll just get suppressed and lose my entire army, then you are in trouble. As resources are more limited, you can't just build a new unit everytime you lose one.
I find the game tactically superior to DoW2. There have been numerous times me and an opponent have been at a stalemate as we deploy lots of troops infront of each other. I'd have to hold off until someone else can flank them before I move in. It is things like that, that make it so much more fun.
As another guy said, having all those additional thigns would just overload the player.
what tactics are you speaking of? the only thing i see is the annoying and unbalanced suppresing that becomes irrelevant as you progress through the tiers. dow2 plays more like an action game especially in the last tiers.
suppressing worked much better in coh, same for flanking etc.
how would you build that massive space marine army if you werent controlling the nodes that give you resources which requires tactics and strategy? if you are so good at this kind of games you can play starcraft for money and solve your financial problem for life... give it a try

Eh? At what point did I say I was really good? Im quite poor at RTSs
I do exactly what I do in DoW2, send my troops out capping as far as I can while building extra troops. No difference there between DoW1 and DoW2, except in DoW1 I could build turrets on my points so I don't have to guard them with troops. Now you need to be careful with harassing/defending with your troops, because if you lose a squad or two, you are going to be at a serious disadvantage when it comes to teching up if you spend you resources on replacing squads that are lost.

You can still build turrets, just need the right commander.

i welcome all the new features. all i 'm saying is that dow2 took one step forward and two steps backwards.

It is a gold beta, the feature list is the same as the final version, that is what people are complaining about
at what point did this BETA become the final full version ?
Beta's are to iron out imbalances and tweaking, submit the problems you find and then if its not fixed on release then whine
for me, i enjoy it ..
The game has already gone gold.
its a beta so it isnt the finished article no matter what colour you pick.
the mechanics of the game are fine, it just needs a few imbalance problems sorting.
If people want the same gameplay as previous DoW versions then whats the point of producing a new game they should have just made another addon ???
you need to look at this version as a different game and adapt, thats all.
Gold means this is the version that's gone to print. Any changes now can only come in the form of patches- this IS the finished game as it will launch.
I'm a bit confused why people say "It's like COH", it's as unlike COH as it is unlike DOW, considering that COH was dawn of war with a better engine but the same overall concept.
