Days of War - new WW2 online shooter coming out this year

after playing a little more some games can be fun but its so side biased. like on american side and ohama beach you have no chance its just dead dead dead. go german and its comedy gold.took sniper and go in bunker its just kill kill kill.

cause its mainly one shot kill with everything many camp or prefire corners.so campers delight.

so needs more tweaking before its anything really.will keep trying it though as could be okay.

Refunded in less than an hour, looks like a ps2 era game, everyone is like Usain Bolt too, it really is poor.

Steams refund policy has saved me from wasting money yet again

i've not played this yet as i don't have a pc unfortunately. I did back it though, with high hopes based on the initial kickstarter videos. However, from all the youtube footage i've seen of the early access version - it really doesn't look that good at all to be honest. Very buggy and rough, and far too fast.

Why do companies feel it's fine to release games that clearly aren't ready?

I really hope battalion 1944 will stomp all over this. The devs seem to be taking their time with that though...hopefully a good thing

You might want to look up Omaha Beach in other games and see why that might be the case :p Even the older versions of DOD omaha was a german snipe fest. And i'm talking the early beta versions long before it went retail, as far as i remember even the retail version of the game with Omaha was pretty snipe happy.

Watched some game-play vids of this, can't say i'm impressed with the sounds, "early access" and all that but the guns sound terrible, even the muzzle flash looks like a dopey little spark attached to the barrel. Looks a little better than dod source graphically but also looks to be too fast paced as well. Already seen vids with people dancing around while having near perfect aim firing and it makes the ww2 setting look farcical.

I actually like that some maps in the original DOD were very asymmetric a lot - aslong as its not utterly impossibly one sided - I like the challenge of breaking out, etc. and while tough most of those maps were possible to do with good tactics especially if you had 1-2 switched on people playing with you. Sadly a lot of people don't like a challenge and want reward spoon fed to them :(

So many games get it wrong :( DOD:S would have been close to good if they hadn't had the utterly retarded spread mechanic and unrealistic recoil - even with perfect control the Thompson SMG would shoot like a 5 foot grouping or something at a target 6 feet away while IRL even a child could manage like sub 6 inches at that range.

Caan was a great map, then the creator of it just sort of dropped out of contact with the dev team. Its funny looking back how primitive the game looked but at the time it was the closest thing to saving Private Ryan we could get. One of the early versions of caan had really crude tank models you could jump into and use a gun on them which worked like an mg to hammer the enemy, though they liked to jump on the tank and chuck a grenade into the turret hatch.

One of the early omaha maps had a sort of bug where you could be in the water and snipe and be incredibly hard to spot, which led the Germans to lob stick grenades the from high ground into the water. :D DOD_Snowtown was another good map. Can't believe how dumb the devs of this early access were to copy a dod map almost exactly and expect valve not to slap them down.

Valve really killed the dod community by shutting down the dod site forums and making people use the steam forums, the dod site had a ton of really active people, think that all dropped away after the move.

i remember playing and watched cod 2 version on youtube yesterday also my grandads bro was one of the first on the beach.so i know how its supposed to go.it was slaughter.:(

thing is like many early ww2 games. germans had better guns and often this lead to people either going to swap teams or only go germans.what dont help is that they have also put the germans in the better positions.so better guns better position = rage quit if usa.

if i bother i will upload a quick first 30 secs of me snipering 1st go lol.

you will instantly see what i mean.needs to change for any chance of the game working.doesnt help if every gun is like one shot one kill.watch phantasy play it from german side you will see just pistol dead pistol dead from german side.so easy.

I don't think a lot of people liked the gun mechanics in DOD:S much - the hardcore people kind of grinned and bared it - I used to play with a very active group from the original DOD and it quickly killed the enthusiasm many of them had for the game.

I used to play waaay too much lol - some of my screenshots are like 207 kills in a round :O

EDIT: Actually I think I'd like to see a straight up redux of the original with the mechanics basically the same but newer maps and a few newer features/expanded loadouts.

I remember when the first screens of what was to be dod source were released and it looked like crap, literally like they had just shifted the models from the old game over to the new one and not bothered updating much, that all changed in the end though.

Pity how things ended up going downhill, was a great game in mod form and it arguably got worse when valve acquired the game. =/

just a little bit of sniper in the bunker on omaha first time first minute of joining.8 kills in first minute.no holding breath needed.hit anywhere = dead.

they need to give a bit of cover or smoke for players to stand a chance of surviving. also maybe more metal on beach to sneak behind or layered sand to give bit more cover.

cod 2 did that.it worked well.

Day 2/3 Hotfixes
29 JANUARY - DRIVEN ARTS

Maps
We've made a change in the map rotation, we're sorry to say that all versions of dow_thunder have been removed due to IP concerns with Day of Defeat.

At the start of this project dow_thunder was originally only intended to be a portfolio piece for one of our teammates who is a diehard Day of Defeat fan with aspirations of applying to work at Valve. As the project developed, we gradually crossed the line from a hobby project into a commercial one, and weren't quite sure how to handle the presence of the map.

Though we were aware Valve might take issue with the map, we had hoped they might take notice of our love letter to Day of Defeat, and potentially let us continue to pay homage to one of the games that got us to become game developers in the first place.

In hindsight this was a mistake, and we apologize to you, our players, and the developers at Valve. We understood Valve's concerns and in respect for them stripped the map. Without Valve there would be no Days of War, and we're excited to continue working with them while we bring our game to the next level.

As a result we will be prioritizing adding new official maps. There’s also a lot of untapped creativity in our player base waiting to be unlocked in the form of community maps so we will be rushing to get the editor out the door as well.

Optimization
We have already patched in some tweaks that has given players a big boost in FPS, so we encourage you to try it out (1.0.3.9.1). We still plan on adding more engine optimizations as mentioned in the previous update.

Visibility
We also updated the maps to have less fog, better lighting visibility, and removal/reduction of post process ambient occlusion on lower settings (which some have referred to as the film grain effect). Still to be addressed is improved character visibility.

I bought this when it was originally released and I did quite like it, but when the maps were removed I refunded it.

I see they are relaunching it and seem to have done quite allot of work to it. Be interesting to see if they can redeem themselves or if too much damage has already been done.

One beta has already taken place but another one is coming in Dec https://steamcommunity.com/games/454350/announcements/detail/1585758353704906430
