***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Yeah but the mods have had to change since that first day to keep it's player base. They have had to add bases building/trading and AI plus many many other things to keep people interested. Not sure if a bog standard SA where you spawn and die over and over is enough anymore tbh. We can do that on 100's of other games that are already out.

Well if it does bomb it does!

I'll buy it and play it, enjoy it for a bit and then move on. I don't see why people get so annoyed with this game.

Never liked the idea of these bases where you can just hide in them! You should be able to fortify existing buildings, not create your own large hadron collider.

Dunno, I tend to be a little upset with it as it was meant to be out Dec last year, but still one year later nothing and tbh not a lot seems different for that amount of time LOL.

But you do realise the original Dec 2012 release was going to be the mod on a disc/digital download without the arma 2 requirement don't you?

Watched it, not really too impressed it seems more "cartoony" than current Dayz which is for a lot of people a tactical game.

But then I noticed you can jump out of the windows in the supermarket, no more getting stuck in one with a zombie gangbang train! Really impressed by this!

That's all what was needed along with a few cosmetic changes and more enterable structures. After all, it was the clunky, comedy like Arma2 mod that attracted over 1 million players to it.

There are/were much bigger and deeper problems than cosmetic and building problems.

The SA won't live up to a lot of peoples expectations. Why? The same reason they don't find DayZ enjoyable any more, the initial random encounter element has grown old.

This image actually looks pretty good:

I'm not expecting everyone to like it, just hoping I will :)

Anyone know any decent servers running the Napf map? Just checked it out in the editor and it seems quite Cherno-esque with plenty of countryside and lots of buildings also. Can only see 2 server running it with DayZ Unleashed, whatever that is.

Would be nice to run about a map that I don't know!

I disagree, the physics engine sucked and especially the player physics. The amount of time I have been trying to do a kill shot and pressed V instead of B for my rangefinders and my guy has stood up in the bush and tried to climb over it, for me to get shot in the head, is unreal!

Must admit the inventory management system does seemed to have had a decent overhaul as well, looking forward to testing it out - who knows though?

Nice image, absolute hate the fact he's added Payday faces... It seems he's reaching a little now, trying to steal idea's from different games! Really really put off by the mask.

Im going to work on the basis that anyone with a payday face is a psychopath and needs to be put down asap. Ive been avoiding that game since the SA was announced in order to avoid burnout, so really looking forward to this.

I like the idea of bases, the thing is they take a long time to make so you don't want them ruined when you are offline. I think they should somehow be indestructible if you are a reg on the server and offline. But when you are online people should be able to attack you and smash your base to pieces. But even with that people would just sit in bases all the time waiting to defend so yeah I dunno. I think people should be able to build a small base to house one car and a safe/tent.

At the end of the day, the size of the base you can build and maintain should be done on a person by person basis. One person does NOT need space to store 20 vehicles, 2 choppers, 12 safes and a million storage sheds. Thats utter ****e.

All bases should be destructible while the player is online, if the player does not login for XX days the base is removed or automatically made destructible. Purely for performance reasons and should be tweaked server by server.

The issue with DayZ is that it is 100% persistent in a world you're supposed to survive. You cannot physically be online 24/7 if you're a normal working/student/family person. You have other commitments, if your job was DayZ then it would work. The map is NOT big enough to accommodate the traffic some servers get but the issue you have is that if you have as server that can house 50 players maximum, chernarus is good for action.. maybe a touch too small.. but if its too big you'll find people condense to areas anyway or they get bored. Its a hard game of balance here.

DayZ is an MMORPG just on a smaller scale (server size) and you should be able to logoff with everything or at least be able to logoff at set times and know when you login you havent been destroyed. When online, you should be entirely vulnerable and it is YOUR responsibility to defend everything you own.

If you want a base, build one you can support. 4 walls with a roof and a locked door is all anyone needs to put a tent in. This is easy to replace with just a few hours of building if its destroyed. Then go out and destroy stuff. If you want a big base, be prepared to have to have the manpower when online to be on stag to defend it or scale down to what you can manage to rebuild.

The issue with Epoch is that everything is done wall by wall, floor by floor and this takes far too much time compared to the time it takes to destroy/maintain it. It also heavily hits server performance.

The Arma engine is not the right engine for this sort of game. This game needs 100's if not 1000's of people per server with an absolutely HUGE map with offline protection with perhaps a hardcore version where your stuff is vulnerable 24/7
