***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

the actually preparing and gearin up and along the way moments are what actually makes this game.

you really need to play in groups to have the best fun if you play alone its nowhere near as much fun.

we had a great night on a random server other night. went up to the new town above behrizino. a lot still arnt visiting this town and its very easy to gear up ;)

once all three of us were geared up we made our way back down along the main road to elektro killing 15-20 people some were great fun :D

we ended up dying in elektro while fighting another similar armed group in elektro. we never seen them until a voice shouted **** !

then all hell breaks loose we kill three of them and we all end up dead :D

currently back at the new town gearing up. :D

bring on the chainsaws !!!! :p

Still waiting for this to get somewhere near the level of the mod, there is nothing to do right now. Tents and collecting guns at least entertained me :)

It is PVP focused already...
Once you're fully stocked up with the best gear, what else is there to do apart from finding people to kill?

Most people seem to take all their gear to where people spawn and kill bambies

Yeah, i know its PvP focused currently, what im interested in understanding is whether thats the goal when its finished? Its there going to be more to it than a pointless PvP where the zombies play as much of a part in the game as the tree's do after the first 30-60min of the game. It just feels like surviving a zombie apocalypse isnt what this game is about, its about killing everyone and theres the odd zombie to shoot too.
No amount of new loot & crafting options extends that, its just counterstrike but on a huge map.

I want to know is it always going to be PvP focused, or is there the intention to develop it further, while allowing PvP to happen, but not being its sole intention, because currently there doesnt seem to be anything but PvP happening and as mentioned thats not due to the limited loot, no vehicles and/or no crafting in the game, its because theres no zombie threat and if you dont KoS then you'll be KoS'd, which breeds that attitude whether you want to play that way or not.
I'd rather the survival wasnt purely from a-hole players dictating their play-style to ruin everyone elses, where the survival was from zombies, from starvation & environmental issues (colds, exposure etc). Having to hunt wildlife for food, survive zombie hordes, stuff like that. Without the risk of spending days & weeks playing that way peacefully without ruining other peoples games, before someone decides they want to play bandit and kill you cos its fun.

Plenty of MMO's have PvP and PvE, I dunno if PvE is quite the right term for what im talking about above, but im sure most will understand what im getting at. I havent really seen anything which states what DayZ is intended to be when its complete, so im asking on here whether they've stated this (from either Mod or SA foundations) or whether theres speculation it'd go beyond PvP, or whether that is the whole intention of the game.
I just want an idea as to whether i should bother getting hyped for it or not, if its never really going to evolve into something im not really that fussed about.

@PaulC2K I think i know what you are getting at, you want the epoch style that is available on the mod version.

Imo the trouble is the majority of the people who will play this will pvp no matter what so you are going to struggle to get the gameplay you seek.

It would be nice to have missions or something added into the game, like having to clear a certain area from zombie threat or retrieve certain loot.

This would be a long way in the distance though.

When they add the zombies they are looking to add it will be more survival and less PVP.
They are looking to add more zombies then the mod (the mod has loads already). They are even planning to make hordes of zombies in random places, so you could be running through the woods and suddenly find a horde of over 100 zombies. Zombies will become a lot more aggressive and a lot more then just a simple thing that is taken down with a quick tap of the axe.

Since when did the mod have that many zombies? Compared to the SA I guess it did but it wasn't exactly overrun with them in any areas. I don't know if it's what others are imagining as well but I'd love to see massive thick crowds of zombies that surround buildings and pose a massive threat and co-ordinated group effort to stand a chance of clearing out (and as I said a few pages back that would provide reason enough to team up with others rather than always KoS - if you want to travel into populated areas to get the good loot going alone would be suicide)

Indeed, you would get 7-8 max following you, I don't think we will see the type of hordes like that blocking buildings in this game tbh. Would be nice though for sure.

My understanding is that in a version of the DayZ mod, there were 'safe zones' for trading, where you couldnt hurt others. They basically disable friendly fire so you cant hurt others, so if the same could be done to the entire map/server, you'd eliminate PvP. It'd have to be a server side option, but at least then you could have a nicely populated server full of people looking to survive against zombies, being able to help others and play their way, without risk of KoS players destroying that.
If you wanted PvP then you could still find that, if you wanted PvE then that would be available too, without a PvP'er or troll coming in and killing people, because the server would disable it, rather than simply trusting people will do what the server description asks them to.

It would be nice to have missions or something added into the game, like having to clear a certain area from zombie threat or retrieve certain loot.

Missions & NPCs, in the distant future, would be perfect. My MMORGP experience only goes as far as The Secret World, but i'd love to have the same sort of story driven experience, no level-ups/ranks, maybe skills (crafting based, so experience creates better fences, or faster repairing) but with a real world simulation beneath it all. I think that'd be amazing.

I've watched videos of people playing Epoch and working as small armies, up against other players, the level of crafting which seems to be in there and whatnot, it all looks fantastic, but while i'd spend the majority of the time playing it with BF clanmates i dont think i'd be particularly interested in playing the game in that manner. I'd rather play something where i feel like its The Walking Dead (not the point & click) and theres 'bandit' camps but its not the only real threat in the game, survival is.

new patch is out :) 346mb

http://pastebin.com/vX6te0KG

for those who didnt notice

- Login: Player queuing system introduced. Penalty waiting time added for switching server or disconnecting a server quickly
- Login: Players receive a login timeout when disconnect, increased if disconnect within 30 minutes of joining (max 5 minutes)
- Login: When players logout, their avatar sits on ground for 30 seconds. Players must make sure they logout somewhere safe

haha cant wait for combat loggers to not notice this only to find themselves dead .

surely they could have came up with a better system than that.

sounds like if you logout legit your char sits for 30seconds regardless of whether you logout properly or alt+f4

why don't they just have a logout countdown like MMO's do so you can actually see that 30 seconds and know you are safe

- Login: Players receive a login timeout when disconnect, increased if disconnect within 30 minutes of joining (max 5 minutes)
so if you logout and back in within 30 minutes of joining a server the timer increases? brb bathroom break let's punish the guy for taking a **** ? or do they mean if you disconnect without properly logging out?

I don't believe people should be punished for properly logging out, other games have managed to tell the difference between someone properly logging out and someone pressing alt+f4/minimising and right clicking the game + close

BTW did they ever fix the PBO issue? because I bought a mic finally and keep getting the urge to play again

yes they fixed the pbo issue a while ago and the logout system works give it a try ;)

if you don't combat log you'll be fine :D

I've been kinda disappointed from the lack of progress , I honestly don't think it's in much of a better state than the mod was apart from better visuals and gui "improvements" , yes I know it's alpha but basic bugs still not been fixed things that are pretty obvious and not that hard to fix which is why you have to question why stick with such a small dev team on a engine that they're obviously having issues with and imo was not the right choice
