I started to trawl the internet to find some tweaks to help with performance and below is just a few which will hopefully help those who are experiencing low FPS.

Command Line:

I am currently using the below command line option.. this is set in the Steam option under ‘set commandline options’ and helps DayZ use the full amount of threads on a quad core cpu.

-nosplash -cpucount=4 -exThreads=4

In game Options:

These are the in game settings I am using. Generally I get a constant 60fps in outdoor areas dipping to 40′s in large towns.

CFG and Profile tweaks:

The following tweaks I found online and really helped with getting my FPS higher.. First off locate the below file under the below location.

C:\Users\yourname\Documents\DayZ Other Profiles\yourdayzprofilename\ and open the file named yourdayzprofilename.DayZProfile

once opened change the following settings

mouseSmoothing=0;
sceneComplexity=150000;
shadowZDistance=100;
viewDistance=1600;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1600;
These settings should help sort out mouse acceleration and also give a good fps Boost.

Next up locate the following location

C:\Users\yourname\Documents\DayZ and open DayZ.cfg and change the following two options*

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=”1″;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=”1″;

* make sure you put the quotes around the numbers otherwise DayZ will change them once booted up.

and that’s it.. hopefully this will be helpful to some people. For more help visit the Dayz Forum for discussion on the game.

Thanks for that. My outside fps has improved a bit, indoor isnt great still but its better than before.
 
disabling clouds gave me a big fps boost (indoors too), probably due to my now terrible gfx card. Still runs like crap though will try the tips above
 
As for performance, my spec is

i5 2500k at 4.95ghz
GTX 690 standard clock, game doesn't support SLI so running on one core.
16GB DDR3 heavily bios tweaked, low CAS profile, overclocked.
Samsung PRO 240 SSD

I get 60 fps (vsync capped) outdoors and around 30-35 in cities, it sometimes drops to single figures and stutters though when I was on the MGS ts I noticed everyone had the same frame drop at the same time.

What I did notice is that with memory on default it is terrible but set it to 2gb and it is much better.
 
isn't the "default" value for the memory only like 512mb or something? remember reading up about it when looking at arma2 tweaks previously. think what I read before was to leave it on default but then in the config file manually change the bit/byte/whateveroneitis value to what your card actually has. as like high was 768mb and very high was 1gb....or something....so you couldn't (in game) set the correct memory size for the last few generations of cards

also you can force the game to run on SLI through the nvidia options under the arma2 performance profile. l think I used force sli mode 2 or something for the game. shall have to have a look.
 
Really enjoying it back to the feeling of the start of the mod. They seem to have done a lot of work behind the scenes so hats off to them laying a good foundation. Lot's of good places in the north now you can see they've put in for possible future base building with natural choke points.

Oh and @Jaynos - if you don't like it then stop commenting on it and go and play something else - you sound like my mum - whine whine whine.
 
Marker, rebooted the server at 1700. Turned on 4 hour restarts as it was currently turned off.

Edit - Server full and running fine.
 
I played the Dayz mod a bit and enjoyed it, decided to take the plunge and get the standalone and am really enjoying it :) that post by Enigma helped a lot with my settings, made the game play/look a lot better. Reading a bit on the Dayz forum now. Think that's going to help a lot as well.

I was told for a quad core keep it at 4..

having threads at 7 is only for i7 cpu's where as mine is i5

Joined the server with my gear, gun at the ready and large back pack, server disconnected. Joined another one and I'm at the beach with everything gone!

p.s Anyone else getting stuttering?

Well that was shortlived, spawned in stuck in a floor, had to respawn and game crashed :)

This could be a problem with unannounced restarts so the DB is not saving your stuff when it goes down maybe. I don't know how different it is from the mod which needs announced restarts.

How about you 1. stop being such an appalling geek and let people post their opinions on a game without being a dick about it 2. get some basic reading comprehension skills.

i agree that the game is in a horrible horrible state, its greatly improved from the mod but its still one hell of a mess.

But then i knew that going in so while i would never recommend the game to any1 in its current state im still enjoying it loads.

still amazes me why someone wastes ammo on a guy with no gear whatsoever, guess its the usual brigade of mates of the server host getting all the good gear and running round killing fresh spawns.

Doesnt matter what server your on you end up seeing the same thing eventually

Again these are hardly positive comments, but for me, it sstill bloody brilliant :D
