***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I had trekked down from near Stary down to Cherno where there were arsing about to continue our adventure...saw most of it through my scope but didn't let on. Was tempted to brass up Jason for his epic level of trolling but after listening to these fools on TS and seeing what I saw, I promptly turned 180, ran into a bush and logged out. Only 1 way those guys were ending up last night!

I would have given you my purple throbbing helmet if you had shot Jason.

If it was going to be a full priced game I would agree, but as I understand its going to be £10-£15 (not inside knowledge just what I get from reading these forums) at that price everyone should buy it no matter what :) Even if it sits in your Steam library for a few months.

This a good game then? atm its £19.99 (for a game not finished and still in alpha testing) I guess considering its early access then its not likely to be in the xmas sales?

I still grumble with the price and what has been done, but damn it does look nice and is great fun tbh. Don't think it will be in sale for at least 5-6 months but it should have been £15 anyway.

I think the mods will really only start to tail off once they make the SA server and private hive stuff available and get the content within the core game to a comparable level of at least the original DayZ mod. Without doubt, long term it will have an impact but its sometime in the future, certainly not right now.

its already tailing off. over 200,000 nrought game. you think that wont effect mod? it already has.

Guys trying to sort out performance issues you can try these tweaks i posted on my site.

Over the past few days I have been checking out the DayZ stand alone game and have noticed performance is about the same as the Arma2 mod.. I started to trawl the internet to find some tweaks to help with performance and below is just a few which will hopefully help those who are experiencing low FPS.

Command Line:

I am currently using the below command line option.. this is set in the Steam option under ‘set commandline options’ and helps DayZ use the full amount of threads on a quad core cpu.

-nosplash -cpucount=4 -exThreads=4

In game Options:

These are the in game settings I am using. Generally I get a constant 60fps in outdoor areas dipping to 40′s in large towns.

CFG and Profile tweaks:

The following tweaks I found online and really helped with getting my FPS higher.. First off locate the below file under the below location.

C:\Users\yourname\Documents\DayZ Other Profiles\yourdayzprofilename\ and open the file named yourdayzprofilename.DayZProfile

once opened change the following settings

mouseSmoothing=0;
sceneComplexity=150000;
shadowZDistance=100;
viewDistance=1600;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1600;
These settings should help sort out mouse acceleration and also give a good fps Boost.

Next up locate the following location

C:\Users\yourname\Documents\DayZ and open DayZ.cfg and change the following two options*

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=”1″;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=”1″;

* make sure you put the quotes around the numbers otherwise DayZ will change them once booted up.

and that’s it.. hopefully this will be helpful to some people. For more help visit the Dayz Forum for discussion on the game.

I'm not sure if the view distance is accurate or not but by changing the settings here except sceneComplexity=150000; which sets your object textures to very low and this is bad, it means at even reasonable distances of 100m that buildings look like they're part of the doom1 engine, that means you CANNOT see through the windows as they've been plastered over. If you need to sacrifice quality, this isn't the way to do it. I also think, if I remember from A2 correctly, it affects player render distance aswell so if you have this set to low.. might aswell not have any view distance.

I changed my view distance to 1000, you really don't need to see further than this, whats the point in rendering things behind mountains that with the current weapons you wouldnt even be able to hit even with a clear line of sight. Most fatal combat happens up to 300m with iron sights unless you're really lucky.

It can be a struggle to hit anything at 300m depending on the quality of your weapon I've noticed and if you're out and about running, you're going to have to stop for a while to steady your aim.

The default is at 3000 and while it looks good, its really unnecessary, when I lowered it to 1600 I was getting good fps everywhere but decided to take it down even further, I get 30fps+ in Cherno/high density towns and anywhere from 60-100+ out in the open now. I poop you not.

I think the view distance sweet spot is probably anywhere between 800-1200 depending on the weapon you have and unless you're camping somewhere with a good overlook on a high traffic area (NWAF for example), we need an ingame slider for it tbh so that intowns it can be changed to something really low like 3-600 for maximum performance.

sceneComplexity=150000;

So what is a good setting for this.

EDIT:

very low 1000000
low 2000000
normal 3000000
high 4000000
V.High 5000000

unsure if these are correct

I didn't say it wont effect the various mods I specifically said "Without doubt, long term it will have an impact but its sometime in the future, certainly not right now".

Short term effect should be partially ignored though as its just a "Next big thing" effect. People will migrate to it from various games but I think in the mid term it will level off with people going back to the various games / Mod. The mods are niche and people will likely always play them so long as they are available.

How about you 1. stop being such an appalling geek and let people post their opinions on a game without being a dick about it 2. get some basic reading comprehension skills.

you're whining about me whining, even though i wasn't even whining.

wind your neck in mate.

You've done nothing but whine like a little bitch in this thread. If you aren't happy then fair enough but shut up and leave the thread for people that do enjoy the game eh.

My first kill weapon kill, I was actually going to try and speak to the guy and didn't think he'd seen me which is why I went close to the wall, in hindsight I should have got to the tree or taken a wider birth to see round but it worked out. You can see the center crosshair isn't very good at very close range. I didn't know what to expect when I fired so it went well I feel.

Testing out the quality and framerates, that was recorded @ 40fps, think it stayed above 30fps, does it seem a little choppy or is that me?

Any recommendations on rendering?

I have killed someone before, used my fists on someone who used their fists on a new spawn. Rocky style, kept knocking him out and eventually killed him.

:D

Hahaha, the least the guy could do is know how to bloody shoot a gun. If somebodies going to do something like that, they should at least get it right. ;)

I guess like me he didn't think I'd seen him either, which was silly. We could have been such good friends!

Going to continue my crusade tonight.

Quite a few people shot at me actually, I didn't meet one friendly person :(

because loot spawning is so rare atm you will get people try to kill you for any gear you have.

Ive seen people run at me ready to give me a good fisting! (umm punching) even tho im clearly better geared. :)

Yeah I understand that but that guy, had an M4, 3 mags, two pistols (no mags but 48 rounds) and pretty much everything else. Not even sure why he was there, maybe he'd just killed someone I don't know.

I just before that picked up loads of ammo all oddly piled in a corner in a house with several scopes.. made me wonder if that was all spawned in or just abandoned but anyway, would have just taken a quick question.. if no answer then by all means blast away. Some people have issues!

I dont care for the shoot on sight mentality, it is what it is and its necessary sometimes!

Could easily have got more gear as a two but instead he's now in the negative equity because he made a silly mistake :(

Maybe my outfit makes me look intimidating, like something from the Enclave in the Fallout series!
