DCS: A-10C Warthog (first screens!)

Can someone tell me what a TrackIR is? I have seen lots of people talking about it and was wondering if it is worth splashing out for?

Thanks

Its basically for head tracking using hardware/software. works for a variety of flying / racing sims and some fps too. You move your head and your view in game moves so you can look out of windows etc, move your head forward/back and the view moves in/out, basically 6 depths of field. Its made by Naturalpoint.

Provides much better immersion imo.

Does anyone fly online regularly? Im going to get back into this now i have my pc connected to my plasma, last version I played was 1.0.07 so i have updated and im looking forward to getting used to it all again! :o

Yes, pretty much daily. But then I'm a member of a squad (1st VFW/25th VFS), so don't fly on public servers. Between flying with the wing and testing duties, I don't really have time to fly on public servers these days.

I'd say either look at joining an organised squad, or flying on the public servers that belong to some of the squads (104th, 74th, or 159th) if you want voice comms etc. Also check out the multiplayer forum on the ED boards, some newbies often arrange flights there.

I will try and get back up to speed and then have a look round at who is flying online, I was hoping it had got a bit busier now it was on steam, so we shall see.

Muzza if you ever fancy doing some training online together give me a shout.

It would be good to get used to the SADL stuff etc as this wasnt working last time i played!

@ mr roper yea sure will do mate.

Can I ask all you fellas who have been playing this loads how long it took you to get used to the weapon systems.?

I will prob spend my first weekend off in a while playing the **** out of this game until I can actually hit something!

See page 398 or thereabouts for the section called "Understanding SOI and SPI". Once you get that you pretty much have everything major sussed.

Also very very useful are the tables of HOTAS commands on pages 86-93.

Some images of the new terrain engine....

19 August 2011

Sorry for the long drought in updates. Current the team is mostly focused on the Black Shark update, the next A-10C patch, the Nevada terrain, and our next DCS aircraft. Speaking of the Nevada terrain, here are a few new images that highlight the dynamic terrain shadowing system of our new terrain engine being used for Nevada, Eagle Dynamics Terrain Engine (EDGE).

Hope you like them.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey im new to this game and to flight sims in general But im very keen on sticking it out and learning (On less hardcore sim mode first lol) However after doing the startup sequence tutorial I just had to laugh. 25 mins later iv decided those tutorials are not the right approach lol. So now im going to download the manual for some "light" bedtime reading But i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places, YT tutorials perhaps, where i can get some good starter info to help get me off the ground XD My one pain with this game is head movement. I need track IR! Will be getting one for christmas i think anyway.
