Deadpool (2016)

I thought the jokes were pretty poor on the whole. I actually found his mate, the bartender who is also in Silicon Valley to be the funniest. The jokes were just too straightforward and not clever, like when he goes to the mansion and asks why he only ever sees those 2 X-men, he straight out says "It's like the studio could't afford anyone else". They could have made this point in a funnier way instead of straight out saying it like that.

I thought 22 Jump Street did the whole self-referential humour thing far better.

Isn't it meant to be because he is the only one capable of breakign the 4th wall, hence the joke was in the fact he knows he's a character.

Or was that obvious and you were saying it was that but poorly done.

I guess it's just my sense of humour. We as the audience know that the big stars were too expensive for this film, so for him to just say it isn't a clever observation, he's just saying what we already know. I would have preferred something like a quick montage of him popping his head round the corners of all the rooms in the mansion and asking "Where is everybody? So weird it's just you 2 guys here...", so the it's like we're in on the joke with him. Then he sees Hugh Jackman standing there and says "Finally!" but then the camera pans back and it's just a cardboard cutout. :p

The 4th wall stuff wasn't as overt as I thought either. I thought we'd see him actually go sit in his "actor chair" or eat donuts at the catering table or forget his lines in some critical scene and go read the script. Instead he just talked to the camera like we've already seen in Feris Buhler's Day Off about 20 years ago.

The 4th wall break is absolutely inherent to the character of Deadpool, it's been there all the way through the comics and it's always "in your face" obvious.

Assume you watched the after credits scene? Lovely nod to FBDO :)

Just watched, excellent on all fronts! One of the few films that have engaged me in a while.

For those finding fault.... you just don't get it do you!

Saw it again this afternoon. Still brilliant.

You notice the extra bits the second time around.

It's one of the few films I've seen twice at the cinema. I wanted to see it a third time but couldn't find it on near me again. For me it will be hard to beat this year.

laughter is infectious and when you don't see the movie in the cinema the jokes etc fall pretty flat.

I laughed once and it raised a smile a few times but that was it. Pretty standard Action Comic Book movie in the end.

I watched it at home but yeah I agree to some extent, there were some funny moments. I don't think it's as good as people are making it out to be though...

Loved this (hadn't read the comics). Funny movie, great character Awesome intro to "Angel of the Morning". I will be watching this again. Looking forward to the sequel already

Meh, it was okay but I didn't feel like it was anything special. The jokes weren't great, the support cast was meh, the final action sequence was for me completely rubbish and did nothing particularly interesting with the story. Reynolds is great as Wilson and there were great bits in it, but they never really made him feel really genuinely screwed up or ****** in the head.

I think one thing you maybe need with a witty and funny Deadpool is a good and funny nemesis for him to fight. The bad guys in this sucked, Carano can't act at all. Meh, a Deadpool 2 without wasting so much time on origin story and with a better bad guy and plot could be great but this film I felt missed the mark.

Dude

Deadpool is not worthy of this analysis...

It just is what it is...

I saw it twice at the cinema, once on opening week when the cinema was packed and everyone was laughing all the way through, loved it and it was a great experience.

Once on closing week, cinema was a little less than half full, and there were only murmurs of laughter at bits that previously had a whole room of people laughing. I don't tend to see things twice, so I found the difference really interesting.

I enjoyed it a lot, it was childish and pretty predictable, but who cares! I did think the final fight scene could've been better, but I liked that it didn't go on for 50 minutes like lots of action films do these days.
