Their lazyness drives the graphic cards business forward, at our expense ;)
YEAH - look at oblivion - who needs all that pretty eye-candy anyway. Set everything to minimum to get max fps :D

(I do agree with you that some compnies could tighten up their routines though)

Pick up this month's edition of Custom PC - there's a very interesting article about ATI and nVidia and how their relationships with software houses affects how the games are coded.

Noob alert

Am i right in thinking this card can be used as a standalone and if you want to use crossfire you need a different socket?

If so has any1 found any compatibility issues with this card with a DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D?

As my flatmate wants one.

His spec..
DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D
AMD Athlon 64 3800
2Gig Ballistix
ATI X800pro

Ok my card should be coming today so a quick question...

To enable HDR with AA on oblivion do i need the new (6.4) Catalyst drivers aswell as the chuck patch?

Im really lookin forward to giving ati a blast for a change!

You need to install the 6.3 or 6.4 Catalysts, then install the Chuck patch over them. You also need to enable the Catalyst A.I. (either with the Catalyst Control Centre or ATi Tray Tools.)

it'll work fine as a stand alone card (i have SLI-D and x1800). if your mate wanted xfire then he'd need a different mobo with an ati chipset.

I had to format windows to sort out a few bugs for changing from 7800gt to x1800 but if he's already got an ati card in there should be no trouble

Right ok cheers Exsomnis!

So it would be this...

Catalyst Control Center Package Download
2 of 3 34.2 04/12/06 Display and WDM Drivers included in this bundle

and then this...?

737-21960: Beta 6.3 Catalyst for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - aka The Chuck Patch

then enable the A.I.

Do i overwrite the detected newer files or keep the old ones??

Any other software you would recommend seeing as im an ATi noobin? ;)

Hehe congrats Gibbo ;)

Are new deals coming out tomorrow and also will the deal on the X1800XT expire by then?

==edit==
P.S Gibbo - my dual core (950) 3.4Ghz arrived today :)

The X1800 XT deal will continue until stock runs out or by May 14th, whichever arrives sooner!

Though we will push Sapphire for another deal too......

looks like my x1800 xt should be with me tomorrow assuming it makes it out of the warehouse ok! Got a copy of MCE 2005 on the way as well so i can have a proper play with my HTPC now just need a plan to sneak it into the house without the misses noticing, or a cunning excuse like a guy in work was selling it all cheap!
